Short-Term Running Goals:

Okay, so for 2013 I am going to have FUN! Not that running isn't always fun, but I had a wonderful breakthrough year last year and I want to play this year :) AND get faster! So, my first goal I'm going to put out there is my yearly mileage goal.
It is 2,186 miles from my driveway to my sister (QP's) driveway! I want to spend this year on a virtual trek cross country running those miles. So, that is how far I will run in 2013...from my house to QPs. It will take all year and yes, this is measured on Hwys so it isn't really exactly how I COULD run it, but good enough. 43 miles/week...totally doable, and a fun goal to track how far I've traveled as I go along. Who knows...maybe I'll even run PAST her house :)

I will do more trail runs, Boston, Pacing duties, another Half IM and some other tris. I'm excited for this next year and look forward to having fun with all of you out on the roads, and trails! Maybe bag a few peaks this year too!!

Long-Term Running Goals:

Big Dreams: 5K in 20:2X; 10K in 39:XX; Half in 1:29:XX; Full in 3:15:XX; complete the Rim2Rim2Rim run and not die; Comrades; Iron(wo)Man.

Run for the rest of my life!

Personal:

4 children: twelve, eight, five and baby Fartlek - 2 1/2. Wonderful supportive husband that lets me drag him and the family all over for race after race!

Finished 13 marathons and LOVE running that distance! I'm definitely hooked to the marathon monster and hope to constantly improve my endurance, speed and stay injury free!

I've also found a love of trail running! I hope to keep improving on this front.

After being injured with a broken foot at the first of 2012 I found a tri group and started training with them and am now loving tris! The half IM was harder than I'd ever imagined...and am ready to do it again. I'll earn my bike butt and someday have enough time to train for a full IM.

Guess who has two thumbs and gets to be OUT of the boot now?!? YUP!! This girl!

Went to the dr today and I've got a nice big bone callus around the fracture and it is looking quite nice. So, I get to kick the boot to the curb. I must wear sturdy soled shoes all the time now, but at least I'm out of that dumb, stupid, heavy, klunky boot!! I can do spin  class with my hard soled spin shoes and walk on the TM and do pretty much anything other than running and high impact (so no heavy resistance and standing on the bike). I'm SO excited to be out of the boot it is unreal! YAY! However, walking and being able to bend my ankle is SO weird - this normal walking thing is going to take some time to get used to. I have an appointment with the PT tomorrow to get some exercises to strengthen my ankle and calf so that in 2 weeks when I'm allowed I can get back to running in good form! YAY! On my way back baby!

So, onto the nasty part of this entry (for my own crazy blogging purposes). So, baby has croup. blech. That I can deal with, but they gave him steroids to help with the breathing issues and dang my baby is SO ornery when he is on steroids. So, he went to bed last night and after 90 minutes woke up screaming. After 20 minutes I went and got him out of bed and all he wanted was milk, so I got him a cup of milk and he finally settled down and I let him sleep/snuggle in bed with dad and me. Well, this pattern repeated itself FIVE more times through the night. Once I thought I was done...completely done and so tired I just wanted it to be morning and it was only 2:30. Man alive, what a horrible night. So, when my alarm went off to go to the gym I just turned it off and tried to sleep for another hour and a half - HA! Anyway, so it was a long sleepless night and I never made it to the gym and I can't put baby in daycare to get it in during the day. Oh, well. A recovery day will do me good. Mentally and physically.

Thanks for listening to the good, the bad and the ugly today. I'm loving life out of foot jail!

So sorry Baby Fartlek has croup and keeping you up all night. :( Dang! You could've come exercise in my gym this morning! Anytime you need a free baby sitter with a mini-gym, give me a call! :)

Burt, we take the good, we take the bad we take the rest and then we have...the facts of life :)

Smooth, I may just have to take you up on that offer :) totally worth the drive!

Carina, oh me too! me. too.

Stay the course.....continue to to bring it back slowly and all the rest will fall into place naturally!!!!

I'm glad you got the boot off. It is good that you slept in. Sometimes sleep is more important that exercise.

Congratulations on no more boot!!! You should go kick the boot to the curb.

Too bad about the sleepless nights from 'roid rage. My son is on steroids for his endless coughing from walking penumonia and it just makes him extremely hyper...Even more hyper than he normally is.

From RAD on Wed, Jan 25, 2012 at 14:01:12 from 98.202.23.178

Slick, excellent words of advice!

Nancy, it certainly was yesterday!!

Dale, I thought about it, but since I hurt my right foot kicking the boot might re-injure my foot :) I'm sorry about your boy. I totally feel your pain. I'm not sure, I think I'd take hyper over crying and whining due to frustration. But, the grass is always greener, right? Thankfully yesterday was his last dose. I hope this goes away soon!!

Yay so so happy for you!! I hope the baby is feeling better today. That is just miserable.

YEA and NAY ... happy you are boot free, sorry about the sick baby Fartlek. I still think the good is outweighing the bad here!!
