Short-Term Running Goals:

Okay, so for 2013 I am going to have FUN! Not that running isn't always fun, but I had a wonderful breakthrough year last year and I want to play this year :) AND get faster! So, my first goal I'm going to put out there is my yearly mileage goal.
It is 2,186 miles from my driveway to my sister (QP's) driveway! I want to spend this year on a virtual trek cross country running those miles. So, that is how far I will run in 2013...from my house to QPs. It will take all year and yes, this is measured on Hwys so it isn't really exactly how I COULD run it, but good enough. 43 miles/week...totally doable, and a fun goal to track how far I've traveled as I go along. Who knows...maybe I'll even run PAST her house :)

I will do more trail runs, Boston, Pacing duties, another Half IM and some other tris. I'm excited for this next year and look forward to having fun with all of you out on the roads, and trails! Maybe bag a few peaks this year too!!

Long-Term Running Goals:


Big Dreams: 5K in 20:2X; 10K in 39:XX; Half in 1:29:XX; Full in 3:15:XX; complete the Rim2Rim2Rim run and not die; Comrades; Iron(wo)Man.

Run for the rest of my life!

Personal:

4 children: twelve, eight, five and baby Fartlek - 2 1/2. Wonderful supportive husband that lets me drag him and the family all over for race after race!

Finished 13 marathons and LOVE running that distance! I'm definitely hooked to the marathon monster and hope to constantly improve my endurance, speed and stay injury free!

I've also found a love of trail running! I hope to keep improving on this front.

After being injured with a broken foot at the first of 2012 I found a tri group and started training with them and am now loving tris! The half IM was harder than I'd ever imagined...and am ready to do it again. I'll earn my bike butt and someday have enough time to train for a full IM.

I got to practice running from insurgents in a war zone this morning. Camp Williams was up playing war games this morning and when you don't have an ipod to drown out the blasts you have to use your imagination :)

Some 'little' friend of mine decided to turn my garmin on for over 13 hours as it sat by the computer yesterday, so this morning it was dead. I was going to try a new route, but decided to just do the 5 mile loop I did yesterday backwards, since I wasn't sure how far exactly the new loop would be. Downhill at the beginning and end was very nice! I like the loop this way better, I think.

Pushed on the hills, but nothing like yesterday. I'm sure the effort was around a 9:20 AP, but it's nice occasionally to run without the garmin - as long as I know how far I'm going.

Adam is 6 weeks old today - wow how time flies!!

***went to the gym and did total body/resistance/lifting class, then ran off to doc's for my last appointment. She cautioned me against losing any weight if I wanted to continue nursing. Has anyone ever done marathon training while nursing (or know someone) that could give me advice? I don't like dragging along these extra 20 pounds, but I also HIGHLY value nursing my babies until they are one. I need some advice..***

that's a good run! At least you've got little helpers to blame for leaving your garmin on. I have no one to blame but myself..and the cat. Yeah, I guess it's the cat's fault when my watch gets left on :-)

I like being out when they're playing war games. Artillery and choppers everywhere- but I guess I only like it because I know I'm safe and it's just "practice." If I were in a tent in the desert, I probably wouldn't think it was quite as "neat."

My charger shorted out a few weeks ago. It drove me crazy running without the Garmin. I could get into a better groove without looking at my pace but I hated not having splits and distance.

I love when the Apache Helicopters fly low over the Jordan River. Very cool.

QP, I'm assuming it was little helpers, it could've been me, but I'm thinking it wasn't. Nathan was 'playing' computer while I got ready, so I think he must've played 'garmin' as well :) I usually don't mind the war games, but I was a little surprised they were doing it so early in the morning. Even hubby complained about it while he was trying to sleep.

Chad, good to 'meet' you! I'm with you on the garmin - I don't usually look at paces while I'm running. I like to know the distance I'm at when I finish and looking at splits at the end as well. It would've been cool to have a few helicopters flying around this morning, but it was just blasting.

Chad, I've been known to do a little 'blog stalking' as well :) It was great to meet Burt and some other bloggers (most of which I'd stalked). I'm glad you've enjoyed reading the blog, I really do love running (for more than just the 'drug effect').

Lehi JRP is my favorite long run! I'm assuming since you live down there that you've done it before. When I get ready to brave a drive and a long run away from baby we ought to have a FRB run down there.

KP, I may have to love them, but I can also kick their little patooties for being mischievous :) -not that this in any way compares to 1/2 the stuff they've done to make me crazy (murals with sharpies)...anyone with 4 kids HAS to run, or do drugs :)

I started running/training 5 weeks after my last one was born. I nursed him for just over 5 months. It was a challenge. I'm only an expert on my own body and will share rather than give advice. My son was a really big eater and I often pumped as I was a working mom. I didn't have any problems producing milk but I did drop my extra weight (about 25 lbs) in about 4.5 months after he was born. Timing was the hardest part. I'd go out form my runs just after I'd put him down. If I even thought of him during the run my milk would drop and I'd have lots of bounce....and discomfort. Not bad but noticable. Drop me a note if I you want more nursing/training stories. all4beans at cox.net

There was a helicopter overhead for a while on my run last Saturday, but no war games. I don't live close enough to a military base.

You're doing a great job with your running. It sounds like others have given you some resources regarding your issue. I don't have any experience in that regard.

LETC, so far WHILE I'm running I haven't had any problems and I've been able to be home by next feeding; however, my doc thinks I was 10 pounds underweight when I started the pregnancy so from what she considers a 'normal' weight for me I'm about 7-10 on top of that right now so she doesn't want me to lose weight, but I want to. She suggested a lactation consultant and I may just have to go that route. I think I am going to PM you a couple questions though, so stay on the lookout! :)

Carolyn, the base is about 10 miles away they just play in the hills behind my house (I guess technically that's the base too). I'm finding most runners either bottle fed or started running after babies.

Smooth, thanks - it's not easy right now, but it's getting back into a little bit of a groove.

My take is this: you ran up until almost the day you delivered so this is nothing new to your body. I would just not go to overboard on and be safe and I think you will be fine! Watch your milk (sorry guys) and as long as it is a-producin' I would not worry about it. As long as you are eating enough calories to sustain the nursing and the running, you should be fine. You know how many extra calories you need a day for nursing, right???

Just remember, people do not typically lose weight while training for a marathon---you just need too many calories!!!
