Short-Term Running Goals:

Okay, so for 2013 I am going to have FUN! Not that running isn't always fun, but I had a wonderful breakthrough year last year and I want to play this year :) AND get faster! So, my first goal I'm going to put out there is my yearly mileage goal.
It is 2,186 miles from my driveway to my sister (QP's) driveway! I want to spend this year on a virtual trek cross country running those miles. So, that is how far I will run in 2013...from my house to QPs. It will take all year and yes, this is measured on Hwys so it isn't really exactly how I COULD run it, but good enough. 43 miles/week...totally doable, and a fun goal to track how far I've traveled as I go along. Who knows...maybe I'll even run PAST her house :)

I will do more trail runs, Boston, Pacing duties, another Half IM and some other tris. I'm excited for this next year and look forward to having fun with all of you out on the roads, and trails! Maybe bag a few peaks this year too!!

Long-Term Running Goals:

Big Dreams: 5K in 20:2X; 10K in 39:XX; Half in 1:29:XX; Full in 3:15:XX; complete the Rim2Rim2Rim run and not die; Comrades; Iron(wo)Man.

Run for the rest of my life!

Personal:

4 children: twelve, eight, five and baby Fartlek - 2 1/2. Wonderful supportive husband that lets me drag him and the family all over for race after race!

Finished 13 marathons and LOVE running that distance! I'm definitely hooked to the marathon monster and hope to constantly improve my endurance, speed and stay injury free!

I've also found a love of trail running! I hope to keep improving on this front.

After being injured with a broken foot at the first of 2012 I found a tri group and started training with them and am now loving tris! The half IM was harder than I'd ever imagined...and am ready to do it again. I'll earn my bike butt and someday have enough time to train for a full IM.

Oh, the stinkin' miles... I just noticed this run put me almost over the top to 29 miles this week...yeah, uh huh...I really AM training for a marathon, why do you ask?

Despite the lack of mileage lately I am feeling better. I was a little worried about what the extended miles today would do to the hip flexor, but I am pleasantly surprised! Things had been feeling better and honestly they are even better after the run than before. It is still there and I have to gimp along a little to start, but once I warm up things go nicely!

I met Smooth, Toby and Karen at the PRT this morning at 6:30 and took just a couple minutes to get the leg moving with some dynamic stretching and a short walk - then we were off. Old rusty hinges getting back to work. I didn't even notice pace (or care, really) I just chatted along the way and had a GREAT time with the ladies! At the turn around I saw the real Smooth come out. You set that lady on a trail and she is OFF! I was having a hard time keeping up as she effortlessly darted around the bushes and plants on the trail - I think I now know her niche.

On the way back down we were discussing SGM and on the rollers I just kept thinking of how deceptive that race is and how I felt the same on that trail! We thought we'd stop at a drinking fountain and grab a quick drink, but it was off - poo! So, we ran on and came to a box with a jug of water and gatorade and cups. We figured we would help ourselves and thank those that had kindly left us some fuel (there seemed to be plenty!). It really helped get us all back to the park with some energy. Well, especially after Smooth heard the beep for the last mile and said "let's go ladies - finish strong!" Toby took off like a shot and left us in the dust just chatting, but I decided I would go for the race and push to catch her. I could hardly close the gap, and as soon as I was making progress doing so she noticed I was chasing her and gave me a good run for my money! I was going to push out the last .1 at the park (Toby stopped just before the street), but the cars didn't stop so I had to and then I couldn't pick the pace back up to finish out, so I just jogged the last bit until I hit 12.

The pace again was slow, but I really can't complain when I can at least get out and run and have excellent company to boot. I honestly was having a hard time keeping up at some points as well, so it was perfect for my old rusty body today. Know the effort this pace took, I really don't see UVM being the race I want it to be next week. This isn't really a bad thing in my mind. I don't mind changing plans and not PRing, it really honestly doesn't bother me at all to just run and have a good time. With all I've been through in the past couple months I'm just glad I can show up and finish. I still have SGM to race and if I don't get to do it there, oh well. Running is about more than setting PR's for me. If you can't have fun and feel good when/after you run, why do it?

Good luck at UVM.

I thought that Michelle and I pushed the last mile today, but you sure had us beat, and you ran 3 miles more than we did.

Carolyn, it was a lot harder than it probably should've been! Oh, well - it was fun.

Teena, it was fun! I keep thinking I need to go to breakfast afterward now when I run at PRT! :)

Allie, wait, wait, wait - hold the boat! Are you going to be at UVM too?!? I need some details about where to look for you. I'll grab your crutches in the hug and make you chase me to get them back :) -okay, I'll be nice, but it might get me to speed up for a little bit.

Awesome push at the end! Sounds like a great run with friends. Nice to get a good chat going to pass the time.

It was such a fantastic morning Rachel....thanks for making it great! We need to do it again soon :)

From RAD on Sat, Jun 04, 2011 at 18:35:00 from 98.202.17.113

Terri, I don't think I can run with OUT chatting :)

Toby, next week - I'll chase you again, but give you a 13.1 mile head start :) However, don't expect any 7mm miles out of me, so you'd better slow down!

From Smooth on Sat, Jun 04, 2011 at 21:09:47 from 67.2.107.37

This morning was SO SO SO FUN!!!! THANKS for the great chats! You will do better than you think at UVM, I am sure of it!!! PR or not, we will have a ton of fun!!! Can't wait to party with you in a week! :) :) :)

From Bec on Mon, Jun 06, 2011 at 00:49:59 from 174.52.182.34

Nice run RAD. Sorry I missed out on the traditional run we have taken the week before the marathon. Thanks for calling me, you are a great friend.

Guess all you can do for next week is relax, take it easy, and enjoy your run. I am pretty excited for this marathon as well. Don't know if I will perform to what I had planned on due to the busy month. We just have to remember to do our best and enjoy our run!

From DaleG on Mon, Jun 06, 2011 at 02:04:58 from 76.27.13.205

What a fun time you had!!! I really wish I had people to run with around here. It would sure make the runs a lot more enjoyable.

From Scott Wesemann on Mon, Jun 06, 2011 at 15:58:52 from 66.239.250.209

That sounds like a really fun run with great friends. Good luck with your taper this week.

From RAD on Mon, Jun 06, 2011 at 16:19:47 from 98.202.17.113

Smooth, it will be a good time! I can't wait. It is kind of funny, but my leg feels better at a faster pace - just not my lungs and cardio! So, we'll see how Saturday unfolds :)

Nancy, Thanks!

Carina, all I can do right now is hold to the love of running - since my body isn't loving me back for it :)

Brent, always got to be big as life, no better way to be! Plus, it's always fun to play with the photographers at the races :) See what they can capture.

Kelli, it only would've been better if you were there!

Steam, don't you live in Sandy? Porter Rockwell is just off 1300E and 12600S. Can't be too far from you! It is a great little out and back roller trail (paved though).

Becca, yeah, yeah...I did miss you, but I think we would've drug you to a slow death :) You are just too fast! Can't wait to see you, I'm SO SO SO excited!!!

Dale, I used to always run alone, but then I met one runner and another and another and it just snowballed! You should find a group that runs out near you and hook up! Sometime we'll have to do a run on Legacy and meet in the middle :)

Scott, it was a great run! I'm all about carb loading this week - taper schmaper, I feel like I've been in a taper for MONTHS now :)
