Short-Term Running Goals:

Okay, so for 2013 I am going to have FUN! Not that running isn't always fun, but I had a wonderful breakthrough year last year and I want to play this year :) AND get faster! So, my first goal I'm going to put out there is my yearly mileage goal.
It is 2,186 miles from my driveway to my sister (QP's) driveway! I want to spend this year on a virtual trek cross country running those miles. So, that is how far I will run in 2013...from my house to QPs. It will take all year and yes, this is measured on Hwys so it isn't really exactly how I COULD run it, but good enough. 43 miles/week...totally doable, and a fun goal to track how far I've traveled as I go along. Who knows...maybe I'll even run PAST her house :)

I will do more trail runs, Boston, Pacing duties, another Half IM and some other tris. I'm excited for this next year and look forward to having fun with all of you out on the roads, and trails! Maybe bag a few peaks this year too!!

Long-Term Running Goals:

Big Dreams: 5K in 20:2X; 10K in 39:XX; Half in 1:29:XX; Full in 3:15:XX; complete the Rim2Rim2Rim run and not die; Comrades; Iron(wo)Man.

Run for the rest of my life!

Personal:

4 children: twelve, eight, five and baby Fartlek - 2 1/2. Wonderful supportive husband that lets me drag him and the family all over for race after race!

Finished 13 marathons and LOVE running that distance! I'm definitely hooked to the marathon monster and hope to constantly improve my endurance, speed and stay injury free!

I've also found a love of trail running! I hope to keep improving on this front.

After being injured with a broken foot at the first of 2012 I found a tri group and started training with them and am now loving tris! The half IM was harder than I'd ever imagined...and am ready to do it again. I'll earn my bike butt and someday have enough time to train for a full IM.

Quality Week, day #3 -

I'm honestly a bit ashamed to even post that this was supposed to be a tempo run. The plan was 7 mile loop: 1 mile warm up, 5 mile 'tempo' (under 8:30 pace), 1 mile cool-down. The first couple miles of tempo were good, but as I hit the up hill and headwind it all went to crap! Seriously, how in the WORLD did I run a 7:35 pace for 6 miles just 2 days ago?

AP: 8:36 splits: 8:53 (downhill warm up), 7:49 (maybe too fast?), 8:13 (feeling good and in a groove), 8:31 (CRAP! I thought I was working harder and pushing faster than that 8:13!), 8:46 (quads burning, felt pukey a couple times...how in the world was this SO slow for the effort?!?), 8:36 (Got back into a bit of a groove with the hills, or maybe it was just seeing the light at the end of the tunnel) 9:22 (ahhh, easy pace cool-down!)

The best thing I can say is that I kept a sub 9mm on my hill of death (8:36) and that was one of my goals before SGM. I really did push hard on this run, and I'm hoping it was just tired legs from good workouts this week. I was almost 1/2 toying with the idea to shoot for a BQ (3:40:59) at SGM, but after today I think I'd be smarter to shoot for about 4hrs. I can't hold faster than this pace for 26 miles! *sigh*

Off to boot camp, but then afterward I think I may do elliptical and not TM to let the legs recover a bit before the hills from h&$$ tomorrow...

***Boot camp was crazy today! She had us do 1/5 mile of lunges, seriously?!? I think my legs are dead now...definitely dead! Not to mention that before that she burned out our arms, I am already looking forward to yoga Thursday and rest day Friday, but not so much the hills tomorrow.

After class I hit the elliptical for 25 minutes on L10 to try and move some of that lactic acid so I'm not so sore tomorrow. Two miles total for the time. Then I did 10 minutes of good stretching on the legs. I'll also roll tonight to hopefully be able to move in the morning before the run.***

If the effort was there for your tempo, i wouldn't worry about the pace. (hills and wind can mess all the times up easily)

Nice run.

(22 this weekend?)

Maybe your body just needs a little recovery after such a good push on Monday.

I think your paces are great anyway!

From Chad on Wed, Sep 08, 2010 at 12:07:45 from 168.177.153.171

Sounds like I could use some of the Herriman hills and you could use some Lehi flat lands for your tempo runs. You would have easily kept that pace, but then where is the challenge?

From allie on Wed, Sep 08, 2010 at 14:30:13 from 174.23.163.253

you DID just run a fast 10K two days ago. the effort was there, and that is what matters. don't worry so much about the pace (easier said than done, i know)

you are doing great!

From RAD on Wed, Sep 08, 2010 at 15:19:05 from 67.172.229.125

Cal, I tried to keep telling myself it was about the effort, but it didn't make me any happier when I'd look at my pace.

YES! 22 on Saturday. I'm thinking Lehi JRP, but I'm not 100%. I'll send a PM out on Thursday or Friday AM to ensure you have all the details.

QP, I actually had that thought run across my mind: Is pushing every day like this doing me as much good as I'm hoping? Or am I doing more damage than good? I guess we'll see how Saturday goes.

Chad, I think we'll be heading out to those flat-lands Saturday on the JRP. If you'd like to come join us for a few, we'd love to have you! True on the challenge, but today I'd had enough of it! :)

Allie, yes, it's much easier said than done. I was worried about it all week. Can I hit those paces on that route? I had been psyching myself up that I could do it, and I guess my AP for the 5 miles was 8:22, so overall I hit the pace, but dang those hills. I wish I had some Kelli in me and could tackle hills effortlessly like she does! Gotta give myself a break though, it IS the effort that will pay off.

boot camp sounds rough!!!

From RAD on Wed, Sep 08, 2010 at 15:58:09 from 67.172.229.125

David, the BEAST was bootcamp this morning, I was just along for the ride :)

KP, it isn't always fun and games. Except when doing our .2 mile 'race' :) Nice to see you back girl!

From Burt on Wed, Sep 08, 2010 at 17:13:58 from 206.19.214.144

KP - remember when there was an FRB get together at Kelli's house a few months ago? Well, I was there, and RAD was there. I remember RAD saying, "You guys know KP from the blog? She's funny."

From Chad on Wed, Sep 08, 2010 at 17:30:26 from 168.177.153.171

It sounds like boot camp is h&$$. I can't imagine a hill worse than that. I'd love to join your group for a few miles on Saturday.

WORK OUT MACHINE!!!!

From RAD on Wed, Sep 08, 2010 at 21:42:44 from 67.172.229.125

Burt, you're crazy - you weren't there, were you?

Chad, When I figure out how to get around the corridor construction (if I can figure that out) I'll send you PM of when and where.

Kelli, yeah, I need a few workout machines to help me get it all in :)

From Chad on Wed, Sep 08, 2010 at 23:24:06 from 204.113.19.55

If you're talking about running around it, I do it all the time. If your talking about driving through it, your guess is as good as mine. I don't have a reason to go up there by car.

From Scott Wesemann on Thu, Sep 09, 2010 at 01:47:51 from 75.162.85.220

Nice miles after your race this week. Way to keep pushing and working those legs. Good luck tomorrow :)

From Brent on Thu, Sep 09, 2010 at 07:31:18 from 168.178.30.219

Devine - race day magic - take it easy thursday and friday or even take the days off - If you have to do something, do some lite spinning. I would take them off, the 22 miler is an important run. Also, pushing the edge as you have to get ready for St.George, you may be pushing the edge of injury, take a couple of days off and let your body repair. You will lose no fitness by taking the days off, unless you pig out.

From RAD on Thu, Sep 09, 2010 at 10:38:16 from 67.172.229.125

Chad, yes, running around it. I know how to get out through Olympic park and up to the main road with the elementary school (where I'm sure you can cross) I just don't know how to get back on the JRP after that. Scouting trip this afternoon I think.

Scott, thanks, it hasn't been easy, but in training is it ever?

Brent, Should've read this earlier...Don't feel like the run this morning did any damage, but I'm awfully glad to be in full rest/recovery until Saturday! Oh, and I've lost about 5 pounds the last couple weeks, I thought that was a good excuse to pig out? :)

No rest for the wicked!

From Chad on Thu, Sep 09, 2010 at 13:01:03 from 168.177.153.171

There is a trail in between houses on the west side of the neighborhood just north of the elementary school.

From RAD on Thu, Sep 09, 2010 at 13:13:01 from 67.172.229.125

I figured there should be an entry there, I just need to find it so that I don't lead everyone astray! :)

From Calvin on Thu, Sep 09, 2010 at 13:17:29 from 66.133.117.3

Is there any way you guys could make a map of the proposed run? (Have you ever used the blog course tool?)

From RAD on Thu, Sep 09, 2010 at 17:49:29 from 67.172.229.125

Cal, I haven't used the blog course tool, but it is an out and back on the JRP starting at 1500N by the green bridge. It is usually 5 miles out and back North, then you can also do 5 out and back South. However, I think with a little detour around the Mtn View Corridor it will be 6 out North, getting us back to the parking lot at 12 miles.

I can send you a map to the Lehi JRP location we usually start at if that would help. I'm thinking 5:30, I'd also be happy to carpool if you'd like.
