Short-Term Running Goals:

Okay, so for 2013 I am going to have FUN! Not that running isn't always fun, but I had a wonderful breakthrough year last year and I want to play this year :) AND get faster! So, my first goal I'm going to put out there is my yearly mileage goal.
It is 2,186 miles from my driveway to my sister (QP's) driveway! I want to spend this year on a virtual trek cross country running those miles. So, that is how far I will run in 2013...from my house to QPs. It will take all year and yes, this is measured on Hwys so it isn't really exactly how I COULD run it, but good enough. 43 miles/week...totally doable, and a fun goal to track how far I've traveled as I go along. Who knows...maybe I'll even run PAST her house :)

I will do more trail runs, Boston, Pacing duties, another Half IM and some other tris. I'm excited for this next year and look forward to having fun with all of you out on the roads, and trails! Maybe bag a few peaks this year too!!

Long-Term Running Goals:

Big Dreams: 5K in 20:2X; 10K in 39:XX; Half in 1:29:XX; Full in 3:15:XX; complete the Rim2Rim2Rim run and not die; Comrades; Iron(wo)Man.

Run for the rest of my life!

Personal:

4 children: twelve, eight, five and baby Fartlek - 2 1/2. Wonderful supportive husband that lets me drag him and the family all over for race after race!

Finished 13 marathons and LOVE running that distance! I'm definitely hooked to the marathon monster and hope to constantly improve my endurance, speed and stay injury free!

I've also found a love of trail running! I hope to keep improving on this front.

After being injured with a broken foot at the first of 2012 I found a tri group and started training with them and am now loving tris! The half IM was harder than I'd ever imagined...and am ready to do it again. I'll earn my bike butt and someday have enough time to train for a full IM.

Oh I feel good. Yesterday I puked my guts out, but woke up this morning feeling good and wanting to get to the gym - so I did! (that darn cleanse idea just got naturally started a day early).

Did a full hour on the spin bike (one foot clipped, the other booted :)). Nice sweat drippage the entire time! This is what I've been needing!! Then I did an hour of miscellaneous resistance stuff - legs, core, pt stabilization for hips and core, just a little of everything - except arms :) I did leg presses on the advice of my PT. He said doing the leg presses in the boot (with my heel of course) would help keep the bone strength up for when I do start running again. I want to be ready to go when the foot is!

I feel great this morning, getting a good workout totally makes my day! I really need to remember this and not sleep in just because I can't run!

Another fun morning at the gym :) Boys had swim lessons, so I dropped the baby off in day care, then while one was swimming I took the other to the basketball court and while he played I planked, push-uped and wall-sat. Did the 60/60/60 planks then 20 push-ups (on my knees, I can't GET on my toes because of my foot) then to the wall for a 2 min wall sit. After 2 sets it was time to go do the switch in the pool. The first swimmer wanted to go in and shower so I waited, then got tired of just sitting around and wasting daycare time! So, I did another 3 sets of above. So, a total of 5 sets. 100 push-ups, 10 min wall sit and 5 min front, and 5 min each side on planks. I never realized how much I sweat doing those!! Felt kind of foolish doing them all on the deck of the pool, but hey - it was better than sitting there painting my toenails like the other lady!!

Sent the boys off to the basketball court and I went upstairs to the spin bike. I pushed really hard for 45 minutes, because the day care caught me just as I was about to start and baby needed a diaper change - whatever. So, I only had 45 min not 60 - go time! Great balls of sweat! Even started beading on my arms - LOVE it! I know spinning will get old here soon, but right now I'm doing okay with getting my sweat on as I pedal away. Good 90 min workout in my 2 hours at the gym :)

HAHAHA! Just saw this on youtube - SO funny. Just thought I'd share-

Good workout day at the gym. Bike butt is getting to me, but a few mid-ride adjustments helped enough to get me through!

60 min of cardio on the spin bike, good consistent effort the entire time, tried to not let cadence get below 80 unless I did a few minutes of hill climb to get my butt off the seat :)

Since Kelli had brought her plethora of workouts, I stole one from her (I think it was the same one she and Wendy did today). It was super sets: chest/back, biceps/triceps, upper legs/calves, abs/obliques. I only got through 2 of the whole rotation, but it was a good workout. Then I did my leg presses as prescribed by the doc to keep my leg bones healthy and strong.

Another fun day on the bike....okay, it's getting old. Especially because I have to sit and stare out the window at the beautiful weather. At least today I had some company for my misery! A lady on crutches and a regular cast was at the gym. She came over to the hand crank bike, which is next to the spin bike, and we got to chatting about our injuries. Both of us are runners and she was hit with a table while setting up for a Christmas party at the church and broke her fibula clean through. CRAZY! So, we sat and had a nice pity party as we worked out. It was great to chat with someone instead of being alone. She lives out by me, but can't drive and I offered her a ride to the gym if she ever needed one - I'm sensing I've found a good new friend :)

60 minutes on the bike and since I was able to chat I could tell my breathing was pretty similar to an easy run. Makes me feel good that the cardio effort is keeping up there!

Then I did a circuit of 60/60/60 planks, push-ups, 2 min wall sits, band walking. Repeated 3 times. Just enough time to get that done and a little visiting with some friends at the gym too :)

Good news day?!? YES! Yesterday I noticed the SGhalf has a 5K with it. I called to make sure that the 5K would qualify as a runners series race and they said YES! Soooo....if I can get clearance from the doc to walk the 5K in the boot and my hubby can still make work arrangements, then I'm still going!! This was the highlight of my day :)

Back to back spin classes. 7 & 8, had to take a short break half way through the first class to run down and get a pass for the 8 class, but other than that was on the bike the whole time. Not a bad ride. Nice sweaty mess.

I really liked the 2nd teacher - so far my favorite there! But, she giggles...A LOT! Kind of crazy, but she is a good teacher so I'll keep coming :)

Now off to the weekend of - same as every other day in my life this last week and next week until my husband finally comes home. A mother's work is never done.

Was a little jealous I didn't get to run in the snow this morning - would've been a nice run, not slippery just slushy and lightly falling...nearly perfect.

6:30 spin class - not so easy to get up after letting ALL the kids have a sleepover in my room, I guess they think when dad is gone mom is a push-over :) It's been 9 days...only 5 left! I can't wait to not be a single parent again!!! Anyway, my kids are horribly noisy sleepers! One talks in her sleep, one snores the other kept kicking the wall every time he'd turn around and then the baby would cry like every 60 min - just once in his sleep. Just enough to keep me up :)

Class was good - sweat factor was much more than usual! GREAT endurance/interval class.

Ran home, got the boys ready for swim lessons then took them back to the rec center. Did my 60/60/60 planks, 20 push-ups and 2 min wall sits during their lessons. A whole hour to burn...so I got in 6 sets. However, my 5th set I did 90/60/60 on the planks and 3 min wall sit. The 6th set I did 90/90/90 planks (not as bad as I had imagined, but then I can't do them on my toes...so maybe it is just that much easier?) 25 push ups and 3 min wall sit.

Tomorrow I go to the doc for follow up x-rays - fingers crossed that things are going well.

Blah...an hour on the stair climber-ish machine at the gym. The bike was getting old and I want to try to do 2 hours tomorrow so I wanted a break today. Was going to do more, but got chatting with Mary Ellen (my new 'one legged' pity party friend) and then Kelli came in and I had to chat with her too! I thought I could pull out a few minutes still, but my daughter called - bad news. Baby Fartlek woke up in a puddle of puke, his own, from last night...yeah, I'm a good mom. I heard him cry a couple times, but it was only for a few minutes and when they're quiet and nothing was wrong when they went to bed, well...why mess with good?  So I had to get home and take care of baby. Fun times.

So, doctor report is unfortunately nothing new. I don't know what I was expecting...I wanted to go and him tell me I'd been doing it all right and I was healed! I knew that wouldn't be, but I guess I believe in miracles. He did say I was good to walk the 5K in St George and he gave me permission to try swimming! He simply said NO pushing off the wall with my R foot - try it and see how it goes. I'm cleared to do anything that doesn't cause pain. Did follow up x-rays and the 'white cloud' surrounding the fracture is starting to grow, a sign that it is healing...just slowly - like normal :( One thing he did show me that I hadn't seen/known before is that the bone is broken on an angle like this: \ through the bone. So looking at the x-rays from the top of the foot I can only see (with my layman eye) the little edges poking out on the sides of the bone, but when you see it from the side, you can see the bone poking up and broken...weirdo! Anyway, I'm horribly fascinated by x-rays and things like that, so I had a good time :)

My foot has been put back in jail (boot) for 2 more weeks, but he feels like that will probably be all. I might be free in 2 weeks!!! YAY! I told him my birthday is February 15th, and asked if I could put hopes on running then. He thought that would be a perfect place to put my hopes (8+ weeks since first x-rays). So, I just have to wait for my birthday. Also, when I mentioned Ogden he seemed to have no reservations about me being able to run that one. This made me feel much better. I can get back at this sooner than later. Which is strange to think about right now, because I don't look at runners and get jealous that I can't run. I watch their feet and wonder how they can run with no pain in their feet. It just makes my foot throb when I think about running. I know I'm not healed, I know my body needs more time. When I can walk weight bearing with no pain I'll know I'm getting close.

1.5 spin classes - 90 minutes. Hurry home, shower, pack up the kids and now I'm off for the rest of the day. Skiing (for the kids and grandma - lodge/baby duty for m) then Mythbusters live with my favorite daughter tonight while grandma gets boys/baby duty :)

A BIG thanks to Kelli - the early riser. She grabbed a spin pass for me at 5AM so I didn't have to get there until class started :)

I am so tired. Seriously. This single parent thing is rough, very rough. Up early, up late, entertaining kids all day, no time to clean, headache, no  time to eat a quiet meal and I just want someone else to change the baby's poopy diaper... Oh, and to sleep in.

Up early after a late night to get the gym done before pre school and an early doc appointment across town. I was tired of the bike again and since I didn't want to get up early enough for the super early spin class, so I did the stair climber thing again. 60 minutes with a nasty sweat puddle afterward.

Now I've GOT to get this house cleaned. It is a disaster after not being home enough to clean it, but the kids running around like crazy. blech.

Warning: this post has absolutely nothing to do with running or any sort of x-training, exercise or anything. This is a vent from me about my crazy life the last 24 hours and why I DIDN'T go to the gym today. Excuses, excuses.

The 24 hours from Thursday night to Friday evening were horrible - absolutely horrible.

I started getting sick Thursday night. Headache, dizzy, exhausted, nausea. I was trying to get the house clean - it was a horrible never ending circle. I'd been to the dermatologist earlier in the day and found out I have some infection on my face that is giving me horrible acne-esque face so I have to wash and sanitize everything - towels, makeup brushes, sheets, coats...yeah, like I said: never ending circle.

So, here I was sick, exhausted and had finally got kids to bed and I fell asleep on the couch waiting for my bedding to finish washing/drying. I woke up at 1AM and gathered bedding and went upstairs to snuggle in - still not feeling great. My 7yr old was sitting in the doorway of the bathroom. "What happened? Why are you sitting there?" "I threw up, and I'm sorry, but I didn't get to the toilet on time" (he was crying poor thing, and who knows how long he was sitting there!)

Well, I went in the bedroom and put my boot on knowing I had some work ahead of me, but oh man...I didn't realize how much!! He certainly did miss, and it at least was in the bathroom (tile and washable rug), but man! The splatter factor was astronomical. Seriously, I spent the next hour of my life retching and wiping down nearly every surface in the bathroom (at least the washer was free - and plenty of bleach!). Even the back wall of the tub, behind the toilet, the counter and mirror...yeah, it was crazy! I nearly threw up a few times, but got it all cleaned up.

I finally got MY bed made and flipped off the light to settle down and then as I was walking to the bed I stubbed my toe (yes, my bad foot, bad toe) on the pack-n-play in my bedroom. Craptastic. Seriously?!? Who knows what I did to it, but I had just had it. The topper to a fabulous day. I was tired, sick and just needed to go to bed. Called hubby (thankfully 2AM is the middle of the day in Singapore) said my good nights and was off...to sleepy land.

I'd decided at that point going to the gym in the early morning wasn't going to happen. I took the boys to swim lessons, but that was it. I sat and read my book the whole time, and yes, I put the baby in day care. I needed that hour - best $1.50 ever spent :) Even just standing up to walk would give me a headache and make me dizzy. I don't know what is wrong with me.

Finally got home and since I've been so behind on everything I'd asked my neighbors cleaning lady to come help me with mopping and bathrooms. Best decision of the week -especially after last night. There was still plenty to do myself, but fiinally by 5:30 PM I was in the shower and ready to take the kids to dinner. No way in heck was I going to let them eat at home on my newly mopped kitchen floor! After dinner (1st time I'd eaten since 2PM on Thursday) I felt a little better and I'm continuing to feel better as the night wears on.

I got the kids to bed early tonight so that I can get basketball, swim meet and spin class all working  together in perfect sync tomorrow morning between 7 and 9 AM. Wish me luck...last day alone. I think I'm going to take off tomorrow night, for about two weeks! I am SO ready for someone else to take over, change a dirty diaper, put the kids to bed, brush teeth, do the dishes, vacuum, yell at the kids, eat a cold dinner after helping everyone else and feeding the baby, carry things down to the basement, fix the dripping faucet and leaking shower door, and most importantly I'm ready to have someone to hug me, sit with me and to listen to me whine so I don't have to post a novel on the running blog about all my non-running activities just to vent. Sorry, you're the only people who will listen to me now :)

I'm glad tomorrow is a new day...and that Craig will be home! Thankful for my sweet little family, but more grateful than ever for a wonderful husband. Please be safe, and come home quickly.

2 spin classes again this morning. Good times, but no sweat fest because I was in front of the fan. I miss not having a sweat puddle under me, kind of takes away from the workout...strange, but true. I whined enough about life yesterday, so now I'm done.

Got to spin class early this morning - I think I slept more this weekend than I did the whole 2 weeks hubby was gone!! Still tired though...I wonder if I'll ever feel rested.

So, with the extra spin on my own I got 75 min of spinning in, then went to masters swim and got a full hour in there - pulling. A full hour of pulling - man alive my triceps are going to love me tomorrow! Felt good to get back in the pool. No kicking, but with a bouy I just pull...and pull...and pull. Good arms and core  workout!

Another day of spin! Got lucky and had Kelli and Wendy in class with me. It was nice to have some company...even if I couldn't talk during the whole class because I was dying :)

Decided that if I am going to walk the 5K on Saturday I'd better start trying to walk a decent amount of time in this boot. So, I finished with 45 minutes on the TM. Walking at a speedy 2.7 - 3.0 MPH. It is a lot harder to walk in this darn boot than I'd like to admit. 2% incline and a book in my face.  Finished 2.14 miles in 45 mintues...yuck, that was depressing. Especially because it was so hard. I still would have a mile to go to finish the 5K. Back to spin tomorrow, I'll try this walking thing later - it's too depressing right now.

You know, I really feel good about my workouts - until I open the calendar and see a whole bunch of blanks...all over every day...nothin'. Dang it. I try to flip past that calendar as fast as humanly possible. Watch out Mr Calendar, I'll be back soon - and with a vengeance!

Well, I went a little crazy today. Got up at 4:45 to get to the gym in time to do the 5:30 and 6:30 spin classes. If you don't get there by 5:10 your chances of getting a pass are slim to none! Walked about 10ish minutes on the track before class and then got it started. Two classes back to back - wow, Danielle is a great teacher! The 2nd class we spent the first 30 minutes IN the saddle, oh how I love her! :)

Well, as I was leaving the gym (and going to cancel my daycare reservation) I remembered about masters swim today. Shoot. I love it and want to go - so I will. Went home and got the kids ready and off to school...then went back to the gym.

I was early enough I decided I might as well hop into another spin class. Yes, my 3rd of the morning. I'd had a good 90 minute break, I was ready to go again :) Then after a quick diaper change for the baby (he was nice and timed it right between classes!) I went to masters swim and did 45 minutes of pulling again. Dang, I swear my arms better be ripped by the time I can kick again!!!

Good 4 hours at the gym - now, it is time for a nap :)

Just one spin class today - felt like a slacker! :) Full 60 minutes of riding, I'm a little anal about it that way. Great class, Heidi is a nice outdoor-ish spin teacher.

Walked 45 minutes again. Made it to 2.2 miles today at 4% grade, the pace was 2.8 - 3.0 except the last minute I bumped it to 3.5 to really push :) yeah...it is so depressing. Oh well, we do what we can!

yeah... awesome time, I know. Hey, at least I wasn't last. All my kids beat me - and not by just a little. My last mile was my fastest - under 15! I stopped at the turn off from the half course for a minute or two to cheer on halfers as they passed.

I'm just glad it took me less than an hour - how sad is that?!? New boot walking PR, please don't ever let me have another one of those - PLEASE!

It was rainy and cold, but it was great to be out enjoying the race atmosphere and then cheering everyone in at the finish! Great morning. I just love watching awesome runners pushing their hearts out to the finish!! Congrats to you all!!

Guess who has two thumbs and gets to be OUT of the boot now?!? YUP!! This girl!

Went to the dr today and I've got a nice big bone callus around the fracture and it is looking quite nice. So, I get to kick the boot to the curb. I must wear sturdy soled shoes all the time now, but at least I'm out of that dumb, stupid, heavy, klunky boot!! I can do spin  class with my hard soled spin shoes and walk on the TM and do pretty much anything other than running and high impact (so no heavy resistance and standing on the bike). I'm SO excited to be out of the boot it is unreal! YAY! However, walking and being able to bend my ankle is SO weird - this normal walking thing is going to take some time to get used to. I have an appointment with the PT tomorrow to get some exercises to strengthen my ankle and calf so that in 2 weeks when I'm allowed I can get back to running in good form! YAY! On my way back baby!

So, onto the nasty part of this entry (for my own crazy blogging purposes). So, baby has croup. blech. That I can deal with, but they gave him steroids to help with the breathing issues and dang my baby is SO ornery when he is on steroids. So, he went to bed last night and after 90 minutes woke up screaming. After 20 minutes I went and got him out of bed and all he wanted was milk, so I got him a cup of milk and he finally settled down and I let him sleep/snuggle in bed with dad and me. Well, this pattern repeated itself FIVE more times through the night. Once I thought I was done...completely done and so tired I just wanted it to be morning and it was only 2:30. Man alive, what a horrible night. So, when my alarm went off to go to the gym I just turned it off and tried to sleep for another hour and a half - HA! Anyway, so it was a long sleepless night and I never made it to the gym and I can't put baby in daycare to get it in during the day. Oh, well. A recovery day will do me good. Mentally and physically.

Thanks for listening to the good, the bad and the ugly today. I'm loving life out of foot jail!

Okay, well at the PT's office yesterday I just got one piece of good news after another! I am SO excited about my 'back to RUNNING' plan I can hardly contain myself! So, I am going to chat a little bit about it today on my blog - so feel free to read on, but I guess I'm doing this more for my info (in case I lose my paper) than anyones :) Good reference!

So, from the orthopedic doc I have band exercises to strenghten my ankle and calf. When one of them said balancing on one foot for 30 seconds I guffawed - c'mon 30 seconds? Whatever. Until I tried it. With my ankle and foot being immobilized for the past 4.5 weeks I've lost a LOT more strength and stability than I think I'd like to admit. I couldn't balance for more than 5-10 seconds the first try! I'm up to almost a full 30 today though, so good improvement :) So, I do the PT stuff 3X per day - good excuse to sit and watch TV :)

The PT explained some very good things to me while I was there! First off, the best news was that I've probably rid myslef of my PF problems :) keeping your foot at a 90 degree angle and immobilized for 4.5 weeks really helps with flexibility! He used to say giving me a 5 degree flexion was being generous - I'm now well over 10! So, if I keep this flexibility up as I gain strength back I won't have much to worry about as far as any PF returning - bonus!

Next good news is that he could FEEL the callous on the bone (he was surprised how far up on my foot the break was, he assumed it was closer to the toe joint, but it is in the middle of my foot). He kept having people come over and feel it! I was the sideshow for the lunch break crowd :) He said this was a great sign. This means that the break is now one of the strongest areas of bone in my body right now. Also, since it wasn't a SF, but a full fracture there is little to no worry about ever re-breaking the area. SF's can create a problem area, but I guess your body heals a full fracture better...I don't know, I just repeat what I'm told :) So, my bone/foot is now strong and I AM ready to get back at it!! YAY!

So, now how TO get back at it. First and foremost is strengthening back my calf and ankle. I'm to do the stuff from the doc and add calf STRETCHING along with it. Also, heel raises...lots and lots of heel raises. If I don't get proper strength back before I run I risk Achilles problems - YUCK! No thank you. So, I will be dilligent about popping up my heels every time I'm standing around - new bouncing RAD :) The other neat thing he talked to me about is that once I get the balance thing going is to use the resistance band not on the feet. What?!? I was confused. He said that I should balance on one foot then pull with my arms/torso to the sides. This helps strengthen the foot from the bottom up, which is the kind of strength your body needs while running. Doing the band on your foot is great, but developing the stability and strength from the bottom up is better. Awesome. I love learning things like that!

While I do all the strengthining/stability stuff I still need to get cardio in. Well, this is where the fun starts!! He said that biking is great cardio, but doesn't translate well for running (like 30% of your time on the bike can be converted to equivalent miles. So one hour of spinning is 20 min equal effort running - no wonder I could easily do 3 spin classes!). So, now that my ankle can bend I get to use the elliptical which has a better conversion (more like 1 hour of elliptical is 40 min equal effort running). So, I can start on the bike to get warmed up, move to elliptical and then to the TM...yes, I said the TM!!!

Here is the most exciting news: Running at a 6% incline is equal IMPACT on the body to walking at a flat. Because of the way it forces you to run, it  not only helps your form, but decreases the impact on your body. Crazy! So, I'm going to get to start out running at a 6% incline. I guess I'll learn to love hills :) Before I can start that I have to regain strength and walk at a 6% without pain for at least 3 days for 20 minutes before I can even think about turning up the speed! Also, running at a 6% incline translates equivalent effort to flat miles. So, if I can only run at 5mph on a 6% incline, but that same effort would net me 7.5 mph - after an hour my body has had the equivalent training to 7.5 miles! Even though I really only ran 5, my body feels it as 7.5. How awesome! It will still be the same effort, but I can start getting 'more' miles in faster! I will only count what I actually run, but I will know my body will be ready for more when I'm ready to take the flat/down/outdoors impact. Awesome! He also suggested that I take this approach to high mileage training for Ogden. Run a day a week at 6% - less impact and will give my body more of a chance to recover mid-week. I love learning cool stuff like this and my PT is seriously a 'google' on facts and studies about this kind of stuff! He knows it all at a drop of a hat.

With all that said, I will now start with bike and/or elliptical and then do 20-30 minutes of uphill walking. When there is no pain with the uphill walking I can start RUNNING...uphill :) I will take running at 6% if that is what I can do! I will slowly increase the run time until I can successfully run 30 min at 6% incline. When this happens I get to drop the incline % on the run 2% per week until I'm flat, all the while gradually increasing mileage (he said that usually they advise 15% per week, but since this wasn't a SF, but a dumb accident that I should be able to ramp back to my 40/week quicker than that). Then I get to enjoy the lovely out of doors! I am SO excited to have a plan to get back to running starting NOW and not in 3-4 weeks. I may just make Ogden afterall. Plus, since hills are speed work in disguise I may not lose all that much speed, so I may be able to shoot for my coveted 3:35 there as well...but, I can't count these chickens before they hatch.

So, I was excited to get to the gym this morning - even with having to wake up early! :) There weren't any ellipticals available, so I started on the TM (didn't bring spin shoes) walking 6% for 12 minutes @ 3mph until an elliptical opened up. I did 45 min there at 10 incline and 12 resistance. Good sweaty workout, and now my muscles are confirming the fact that spinning is great cardio, but doesn't translate well to running equivalencies. It was harder than I would've liked it to be, dang it. Then I went back to the TM for another 6% walk at 3.2 mph for 13 minutes. So, a total of 25 min walking - looking good so far on pain quotient. The problem is that my foot muscles have atrophied so much they get sore, I know it is not break/bone pain - I know that all too well, this is also not in the same place. More PT exercises all day! My calf is getting sore :) good news all around!

If you actually read all of this, you probably learned something new :) Thanks for hanging in there with me! I'm on my way back baby!

Okay, before you yell at me - hear me out!

Hubby was nice and worked from home a bit this morning so that I didn't have to get up super early to workout. It was nice to see some of my regular gym rat friends :)

Started on the elliptical and I had to use a weirdo one that seemed more like running motion, because the ones I like (without moving handles) were all gone. Spent 23 minutes there until one I liked opened up. Finished 37 minutes off there. Then, I went to the TM.

I started walking at my 6% and was up to 4mph - yeeehaw! At about 6 minutes, I was bored. I thought about running, maybe I could try...just one minute. Since I was going to do 30 minutes of walking every 10 min I could do the last 1 min of each set running. Just ONE minute.

So, I tried it out! I was only running 5.3-5.5 mph and again, was at my 6% incline. The only problem was that the running felt better on my foot than the walking! Strange. I don't know exactly why or if I was just dreaming this to feel this way. I have an email into my PT to ask him about this quandry. Either way, I kept myself only to the 1 minute. So, I finished up 3 total minutes of running - woohoo! A total of a 1/4 mile-ish. Hey, I'll take it. Loggin' the miles...or fractions thereof :)

Still also working the PT stuff 3X per day - my calf is SO sore. It is crazy sore, I didn't realize how much I didn't use it, until I did :) Also, the tendons and ligaments on the bottom of my feet are feeling this new walking stuff too. I know it is NOT fracture point pain, I know what that feels like. This is just my body getting back to normal. This is how I know I'm not ready to jump up and run off on a nice easy 6 mile loop. Easy does it, easy does it.

Patience = the new endurance sport!

Similar to yesterday. Started with 30 min on the elliptical to warm things up, then since I didn't have enough time to do 30 min on the TM before spin class started I just did 15 min, but ran on the 4's instead of the 9's.

1 hour spin class. Holy moly I don't remember sweating that bad in quite some time - must've been too far from the fans!

Back to the TM to finish up my 30 min walking. 15 min with only one 1 min run on the 9 this time. Still at my 6% and 3.7-4.0 walking speed at 5.5 'running' speed. I guess uphill an 11mm isn't so bad, right? please make me feel better about this one....

Another morning in the saddle. Spin class. Instructor asked what kind of workout we wanted: easy, medium, hard, or extremely hard. I yelled back "I didn't come to the gym to be pampered!!" No one refuted my comment - so it was a good, hard class!

25 minutes on the elliptical

30 min on the TM. All at 6%, walking at 4.0mph and running at 5.5mph. 3 min walk, 5 min run, 5 min walk, 5 min run, 5 min walk, 5 min run, 2 min walk to bring the HR down. Wiped it down, and got the heck out of dodge. Oh, I did get the last 2 min of my 5 min run up to 6mph - wow, I was cruising, hahahaha!

Oh, got a reply from my PT - short version? There is little to no difference between running and walking at 6% incline. If it feels better to run, do it. Best.Answer.Ever. Now to make my body willing to run at a 6% incline....it is NOT easy!

MileS - yes, two :) nice!

Spin class - early morning, with a heavy gut from Flemmings last night (hubby's work took us out!!), but it was oh SO good!!

Out to the elliptical to warm up the feet and calves for running - 30 minutes L12

TM time! 6% - will I ever get used to it? run 7 min (5@ 5.5mph, 2@ 6.0), walk 3 - repeat 3X. adding up the times, it puts me right at 2 miles - awesome. I really needed those 3 minute breaks. I don't know if I will ever get up to my full 30 minutes without pain to be able to start dropping the incline.

Then, I got to go back to the gym - and get paid! Yes. I got paid to go to the gym, awesome! One of my neighbors who has a foster child through the company I work for, asked me to take her daughter to the gym and help her exercise for an hour a few times a week. Really? getting paid to go to the gym? please...no...don't twist my arm! :) I walked on the track and had her do intervals (walk one lap, run a lap and then until she caught up with me) for 20 minutes. Then we did planks 30/30/30 sec with 20 push-ups 3X. She said she felt like jello afterward, so I think I did a good job :) If anyone has any suggestions of things for her to do (cardio max is about 20 minutes right now and hasn't done resistance stuff before) I'd love to have some suggestions. So I don't kill her :)
