Short-Term Running Goals:

Okay, so for 2013 I am going to have FUN! Not that running isn't always fun, but I had a wonderful breakthrough year last year and I want to play this year :) AND get faster! So, my first goal I'm going to put out there is my yearly mileage goal.
It is 2,186 miles from my driveway to my sister (QP's) driveway! I want to spend this year on a virtual trek cross country running those miles. So, that is how far I will run in 2013...from my house to QPs. It will take all year and yes, this is measured on Hwys so it isn't really exactly how I COULD run it, but good enough. 43 miles/week...totally doable, and a fun goal to track how far I've traveled as I go along. Who knows...maybe I'll even run PAST her house :)

I will do more trail runs, Boston, Pacing duties, another Half IM and some other tris. I'm excited for this next year and look forward to having fun with all of you out on the roads, and trails! Maybe bag a few peaks this year too!!

Long-Term Running Goals:

Big Dreams: 5K in 20:2X; 10K in 39:XX; Half in 1:29:XX; Full in 3:15:XX; complete the Rim2Rim2Rim run and not die; Comrades; Iron(wo)Man.

Run for the rest of my life!

Personal:

4 children: twelve, eight, five and baby Fartlek - 2 1/2. Wonderful supportive husband that lets me drag him and the family all over for race after race!

Finished 13 marathons and LOVE running that distance! I'm definitely hooked to the marathon monster and hope to constantly improve my endurance, speed and stay injury free!

I've also found a love of trail running! I hope to keep improving on this front.

After being injured with a broken foot at the first of 2012 I found a tri group and started training with them and am now loving tris! The half IM was harder than I'd ever imagined...and am ready to do it again. I'll earn my bike butt and someday have enough time to train for a full IM.

I can definately tell that Saturday took some oomph out of me, I'm more just tired that anything. However, I got up and at 'em this morning... I did Heidi's step class then went and did 5 miles on the TM at 0-1% incline and a steady pace of 7 mph (8:30 mm I think) until the last 1/2 mile then I kept ramping up the speed just to finish more than anything, I don't remember how fast I finished at. My mental workout today was to keep the TM at 7 and not let it go below that, so I moved the incline when I felt I could do more or less. I did have an overall gain of 200 plus feet though, so I did a decent job keeping the incline up. Good recovery run, and from the email description looks like tomorrow is going to be fun too! I better get some good sleep tonight :)

Met the BBK's for tempo/hill work this morning. We did warmup's then a tempo to 'pace out' the group, then paired up (one end of the line with the other) for the relay races. I ended up right in the middle and was paired with Becky right next to me - that felt PERFECT for me! We did a great job on the shorter flat sprints, but after a short recovery and then  being told the next relay was on hills we both looked at each other and said "I'm no good at hills" and laughed. We pulled a little more towards the bottom on that one, but I know we were still pushing hard for ourselves! During those relays (and a .75 recovery jog) I had a 7:42 mm; 7:24 mm and 7:52mm so I was feeling GREAT! It kicked my butt; however, it was well worth the effort. I always feel so much better about runs when I'm done...I guess it must be that silly runner's high.

I then went to the gym to get my resistance in - 1hr body building class. Then finished off with an additional 3 easy miles on the TM (about 9-9:30 mm). I'm really trying to get some good mileage in this week, because I'm going to miss my long run on Saturday because I'll be in Barcelona....hmmm okay, I won't complain!

Went to the gym and did kickboxing this morning, arms were sore from resistance class yesterday. Felt like I was only at 60% effort all class, I was just drained. It also could've been the issue of not eating breakfast this morning either. After class, went to the TM and did 5 on a decline at 8:20 mm, then ramped up the last mile to finish faster and went up to 7:20 mm. Then, just to test myself mentally I kept the pace, but put the incline up and ran that way for 2 minutes time. Finished just over 5 miles. Great workout and now I'm ready to takle the day! A big welcome home goes out to Kelli today! Thats the fastest 5 miles I've run on a TM since you left... I really missed you!

Met the BBK's for a great tempo hill run. Was feeling very sluggish today, I think I'm demading a lot out of my body this week after the 20 on Saturday. I did pretty well keeping a decent pace: 8:38 for the full 10. There were a few in the low 8's and one at 7:43, but that one was some good downhill :) Afterward I got to spend a great hour at the gym in yoga stretching and relaxing. Now, its time to get all the laundry and cleaning done to get ready for the cruise tomorrow....YEA!!

REALLY REALLY REALLY wanted to get to the gym this morning, but its not going to happen :( too much to do before 1:00!! I'm really bummed about only getting in 32 this week so maybe I'll try to get some in Saturday in Barcelona. I guess I need a good rest day today... I just wanted to do something for myself before I sat on a plane for 13 hours and couldn't move. I'll love being there, but I hate getting there! Have a wonderful weekend, I'll have to check in and see how all the long run Saturdays went... ENJOY!

On the ship and happy! Fun treadmills and aer9bics classes to look forward to. Maybe I'll run tonight if I can't sleep. Internet time is by the minutes... so short and sweet reports!

Ran 7 on the treadmill at 1% at an 8:30 or less pace then picked it up to 8 mph (? pace) for the last .5 mile. It was hard running on the TM, because the ship was really rocking! up and down and side to side...more comical than anything :) PM did a GREAT spin class with a fun instructor and pilates, again try doing pilates on a floor that is constantly moving! Its crazy, but I've heard that it should be more 'smooth' the rest of the trip. Tomorrow.... ROME!

Didn't want to get up to run before port and tour at 7:00 so I was lazy and slept in, but put many miles on my feet in ROME .... wow it was amazing. Tonight I hit the spa for some thermal therapy (hot tub, steam room etc.) YEA! Tomorrow is sea day and I'll try the moving treadmill tomorrow again.

Got up early, did 7 on a much smoother sea day at 8:20 then bumped up the last .5 to 8 mph. Did sunrise stretch, yoga a spa treatment (ahhhh) then lounging in the the thermal area, spinning class pilates then dress up for dinner (yummy!) Enjoying it all. Thanks for the comments, with expensive internet time I don't have time to reply to all the comments so I have to do it here. Port in Athens tomorrow, but its late enough I should be able to get a good hour in first!

Ran 7 before a late port stop in Athens. Oh, I needed that run because I ate SO MUCH baklava....It was wonderful. Having a great time and I'm feeling depleated not having enough minutes to sit and read everyone else's blog.... but I've found a couple fellow gym rat runners to chat with a bit.

Got a beautiful Turkish rug that you all will have to come see. Pilates and 'fit ball class' (??) tonight. We'll see if I make it or decide to get dressed up for tepanyaki tonight!!! Sea day tomorrow will bring another good workout!

I am home!!! It was such a LONG HORRIBLE flight home. I just am not a good sitter and sitting and flying and traveling for over 24 hours is just torture!!! But now I'm home and I had an awesome time. I'm thinking I'll try to run a little this afternoon/evening, but we'll see where my energy level is by then :) We will see you all on Tuesday....back to the gym monday.

Was happy to get to the gym and NOT have to pay for the class! Dentist appointment made me miss 1/2 of class, but it was still a good step class. Then hit the TM for 6 more, definately feeling the lead legs from not doing much for 4 days! did 4 of the 6 at 8:30 (plus) mm and had to ramp down to 10 mm for a couple middle miles to get past my 'wall'. However, its nice to be back on treadmills that don't move underneath your feet (like on a rocking ship) and to have the wonderful company of Kelli back :) Made those first few until she left me, go really quick! See all you BBKers tomorrow morning then I'm excited to actually meet some bloggers I've chatted with or stalked (shh, don't tell) at the Riverton 1/2 on Saturday.

Met the BBK group for their Tuesday run this morning and boy did I forget what it was like to run with those speedy people!! We did 4 nice warm up miles - then the fun began. Taking 2 weeks easy sure helped with my speed today, but I pooped out on the last 2 miles of sprint/recovery. My left IT came back to haunt me and my energy was spent :(

After warm up Peggy had us run around a block that was probably around a .25 mile 4-sided. We would run 4 sides hard then recover 4 sides, run 3 sides hard recover 3 sides...etc 4-1 twice. I kept up at the front which was fun (everyone must've been pooped from Sat runs, because I never get to be at the front) and Peggy would wait up for me a few times on the recoveries to chat about my trip, she was doing great...I could hardly breathe, let alone talk! After that I thought we were done, so I was running a little extra to even out. Boy was I wrong! We ran about a quarter to another block about .5 around then did 1/2 the block sprint (up hill of course) then recover the other 1/2 - 4 times. This is where I pooped and regained my rightful position at the back of the pack. Oh well, I feel like I got a great workout in and it really re-invigorated me to keep training. I've kind of been a little off -mentally- lately with running, so I guess I needed a good break and then a good workout to show me I could still do it.

After getting home and getting all the kids off to school went to the gym and did 20 minutes on the bike and then resistance -while chatting with Kelli, so it took a little longer :) I definately felt like I got a good full body workout today and am now ready for my nap.

My AP for the 11 this morning was 8:31 - I had 3 splits under 8 (7:37 was the best full mile) and my best momentary pace was 5:32. Not too shabby for just getting back into it, huh? Okay, I'll admit it, thats good for me on a good day :)

I totally forgot how hard Heidi's kickboxing class is! Especially after a day of weight training. I forced myself to run afterward...only 3, but I did a downhill (-2%) run at 8:20 mm. I'm saddend by the snow...I was really looking forward to some bike rides and jogging stroller runs once I got home from the cruise, but I'm back to fighting the ice and snow :(  - At least I've got great friends to chat with as we slip and sludge around in it! Soon it will be too hot to run even before the sun comes up, so I'm trying to just be grateful for the cool weather and moisture.

Great run this morning with BBK's! It started out with sideways ice pelting my face...I decided that if it didn't stop as soon as my car was in view I was sprinting to it, getting in and going home to bed! However, with Kimberly's good company and the running gods wanting me to stay, the weather cleared up. Thankfully, it never got that bad again... it started a little for a couple minutes a few times, but nothing that even made me THINK about stopping. We didn't do any 'training' program today, we just did a long slow run and it was just what I needed this morning. My AP was 9:20 or something, but it felt great! Gave me a ton of confidence that I can finish this Saturday (I've been doubting my running endurance since I've been home). Afterward, I went to Yoga and although it was freezing in the gym, I had a great stretch/yoga time and am ready to face the snow! The sun all morning/afternoon is really helping as well, with the blinds shut I just pretend the snow never happened :)

Okay, the sleep time is overrated, but I feel like I slept all day yesterday and last night! I woke up still feeling feverish and achy. I don't want the strep to turn into Rheumatic fever and risk damaging my heart for one silly race, so I called it off - and it broke my heart! So, I decided I needed to go cheer everyone on at the finish. I wasn't even racing and I still couldn't get to the finish before Walter, but I saw everyone else finish :) It was great to meet and hang with so many of you today and seeing all your running highs and great times I REALLY was sad I didn't run, but I know that I wouldn't have made it. When I hit my 'off'' from the Motrin I could hardly stand up straight and focus my eyes and just wanted to lay down and sleep!! So, I'm sure the race wouldn't have been pretty! Congrats to everyone who ran today you all did a great job and I'm excited to run a race with all of you again...sounds like most of us are planning on Ogden (1/2 or full) so I'll have to look forward to RUNNING with you all then!

I was definately feeling a TON better today so I hit the gym for step class and then ran all I could easy after that. I still don't want to push things and get Rhumatic fever, it REALLY scares me. It was a great morning and now I'm off to do cleaning from the 'tornado' of the weekend!

Didn't feel GREAT when I woke up so I decided to take it easy and only do the workout and not extra miles with BBK's today. We had a great track workout....wow, it was like getting spolied having a nice flat and soft run! We did some tempo repeats and I felt like I had a great run this morning...the miles seemed to pass quickly. My AP was 8:13 and my best mile was 7:19 mm (This was probably the 800 and 2-400 'hammer' laps we did)my best pace was during that time as well, 4:48 - for at least a second :) I was really suprised it was that fast, amazing how my speed has picked up that much in just the short time I've been with the group - that even included some recovery jogging after ther sprints!! Afterward I wished that I had gone for the first few as well...but, no regrets I needed the sleep.

Afterward I hit the gym for resistance training and then 30 minutes on the spin bike (8.5 miles I think). Feeling much better and looking forward to a good long run on Saturday - it'll be my first in FOUR weeks!!!
