Short-Term Running Goals:

Okay, so for 2013 I am going to have FUN! Not that running isn't always fun, but I had a wonderful breakthrough year last year and I want to play this year :) AND get faster! So, my first goal I'm going to put out there is my yearly mileage goal.
It is 2,186 miles from my driveway to my sister (QP's) driveway! I want to spend this year on a virtual trek cross country running those miles. So, that is how far I will run in 2013...from my house to QPs. It will take all year and yes, this is measured on Hwys so it isn't really exactly how I COULD run it, but good enough. 43 miles/week...totally doable, and a fun goal to track how far I've traveled as I go along. Who knows...maybe I'll even run PAST her house :)

I will do more trail runs, Boston, Pacing duties, another Half IM and some other tris. I'm excited for this next year and look forward to having fun with all of you out on the roads, and trails! Maybe bag a few peaks this year too!!

Long-Term Running Goals:

Big Dreams: 5K in 20:2X; 10K in 39:XX; Half in 1:29:XX; Full in 3:15:XX; complete the Rim2Rim2Rim run and not die; Comrades; Iron(wo)Man.

Run for the rest of my life!

Personal:

4 children: twelve, eight, five and baby Fartlek - 2 1/2. Wonderful supportive husband that lets me drag him and the family all over for race after race!

Finished 13 marathons and LOVE running that distance! I'm definitely hooked to the marathon monster and hope to constantly improve my endurance, speed and stay injury free!

I've also found a love of trail running! I hope to keep improving on this front.

After being injured with a broken foot at the first of 2012 I found a tri group and started training with them and am now loving tris! The half IM was harder than I'd ever imagined...and am ready to do it again. I'll earn my bike butt and someday have enough time to train for a full IM.

Okay, I must say - I've been kind of psyching myself out of this all week: I'm too tired, I'm too big, I'm too...yeah, the list goes on and on. Now that the race is over I've busted all my excuses and feel great! I honestly could've gone a few more - not 26.2, but maybe 15 or 16. It all just felt good!

Picked up Tom Slick and my SIL and got to the race in decent time, and started about 3-4 min back from the  gun time. Had a few good laughs about my shirt with the trax train crowd, and some good 'looks' from people as we were in the porta-potty lines.

Started out nice and easy, I didn't want to waste energy weaving around people, so I mostly just took what they'd give me. I blame the slowest 2nd mile pace on a mixed up water stop, it was our first as a group: stop, don't, okay stop, go back a few steps to get it, where are you?, group up, run on. The rest of the water stops were MUCH more successful!

It was great chatting with Tom and my SIL, I really didn't even think about miles until I got to my 'death point' at about 6.5 from the first time I'd run the race...I knew I was 1/2 way and was still feeling good! I felt like we kept passing people and were keeping a decent stride, I rarely remember being passed. I would hear a few giggles from some folks as I passed them, and a couple comments, but I honestly thought I'd get a lot more from the crowd with the shirt. Maybe they just felt too defeated that a pregnant lady had just passed them :)

I was pleased that I had absolutely NO ITB pain the entire run, first time I've run that course w/out the pain. I guess that is one GOOD thing about pregnancy hormones: keeps all those tendons nice and relaxed :) As we headed up the last hill just as you cross mile 12, besides the heavy breathing I really still felt just GREAT...so I let the stride go a bit. I really, truly would not have guessed the pace was as fast as it was! If I had that much left in me at the end I should've run a bit faster throughout. Meh...I felt good! Who am I to complain about time when I'm finishing a 1/2 marathon 30 weeks pregnant?

Crossed the finish feeling good and with a little bit of kick in my step! No pain, no fuss - just a wonderful easy run with a couple of excellent friends! When I noticed the time was just over 2 hours, I honestly felt a bit cheated...I wish I would've knocked enough out to finish just under instead of over, but that's the competitor in me I guess. It was hard sometimes during the race to see people I was running behind and think "I should be in front of you..." Maybe that's what kept me motivated, who knows!

I'm SO grateful for Slick and my SIL that made the day even better with good laughs and GREAT company. It was fun to run into a few people too, missed BSRools crowd - we'll have to do the parkway sometime!

That shirt is hilarious! Great job on the half. That 12th mile WAS a bugger wasn't it?

From DonGardinero on Sat, Apr 17, 2010 at 17:09:21 from 75.162.162.213

Awesome job, Rachel!!! Love the shirt! That's hilarious.

From RAD on Sat, Apr 17, 2010 at 17:21:23 from 67.172.229.125

Allie, I had issues getting the pics to post and didn't want to lose what I'd written so, you'll have to check back - pics are up! :) Oh, and when you are 7 months pregnant running you'll be upset about a slow 1:30!! :)

JD, Thankfully I was mentally prepared after last year for 'the death mile' but yes, I wish they'd go back to the old course. Hill at mile 2.5 NOT 12!

Dale, thanks! I had a wonderful time - what good is a 'race' pregnant if you can't have some good fun? :)

From Bec on Sat, Apr 17, 2010 at 17:26:11 from 76.23.55.210

You are an absolute doll. Sorry I am still laughing. Not at you, but at the shirt. RAD, RAD, RAD, you could have ran longer today? Why am I not surprised?

From Carolyn in Colorado on Sat, Apr 17, 2010 at 18:07:17 from 24.8.167.243

Great job, Rachel. You're pregnant pace is faster than a lot of unpregnant people. You're going to be really speedy once you get that little guy out of there.

The shirt is a right good kick in the pants.

From Brent on Sat, Apr 17, 2010 at 18:13:17 from 168.178.30.194

Devine Miss M - you are a devine character, wow, 7 months pregant, almost kicked my butt, major commando points,1,000 - Love the future runner on board. What a beautiful day for a run, agree with you, the old course was better. As I mentioned before, I would bet you will have several PRs this fall and next year, your in great shape.

Stay Kool, B of BS Rools out

From KP on Sat, Apr 17, 2010 at 18:20:02 from 98.81.31.240

RAD, I am so proud! You did absolutely awesome! I'd say that's a good hour faster than I could finish and I'm not pregnant, just fat. You are awesome and a true inspiration (in a good 10 years when I decided to maybe start having kiddos). I think you can knock out a full marathon in May. Go for it!

From JulieC on Sat, Apr 17, 2010 at 18:43:16 from 70.56.108.81

You look sooo good!! love the shirt. Great run!!

From Lysa on Sat, Apr 17, 2010 at 18:55:31 from 174.52.15.101

GOOD JOB!! YOU are amazing to do that that well being pregnang!! So many pregnant women would never even attempt to even run it let alone do that well! Thats got to be a great feeling and an awesome thing to put in the babies book!!

From Nancy on Sat, Apr 17, 2010 at 19:14:42 from 76.27.19.206

Great job Rachel. I love the Shirt. You hardly even look pregnant. I brag about you to everyone I see.

From Kim on Sat, Apr 17, 2010 at 19:41:23 from 67.199.180.90

Fun race report and shirt! You are awesome. I wish I would have been smart enough to be a runner when I was having kids!

From Andy on Sat, Apr 17, 2010 at 21:24:47 from 198.60.114.178

That has to be the funniest shirt I have ever seen. I was not aware that pregnancy hormones where good for tendon problems. I'll have to give it a try. Great job on the race.

From Toby on Sat, Apr 17, 2010 at 22:05:05 from 216.194.124.36

Umm....your are one tiny pregnant woman! You look FABULOUS! I love your shirt and your race story! Way to go!

From RAD on Sat, Apr 17, 2010 at 22:52:21 from 67.172.229.125

Becca, I just felt that good! Now, ask me if I want to keep running when I try again on Monday - may be a different story!

Carolyn, thanks - it was fun to pass people. I just wish I could've heard what they were thinking :)

Brent, thanks for the commando points! I think a lot of it was the beautiful weather and good company - 2,000 of my good running friends and not having to worry about cars!

KP, I'll keep my shirt for 10 years...just in case you want to borrow it :) I'm afraid of a full right now, but maybe in October.

Julie, thanks! It was a fun race - good times!

Lysa, I'll have to write in his book that he beat me in a 1/2...after all, he did cross first! **should've run in backwards - little stinker!**

Nancy, I don't feel that extraordinary, but thanks for the support! It was my SIL Annette (from the dentist's office) that ran with us today.

Kim, with my other 3 pregnancies I could barely do water aerobics - so this isn't 'normal' for me, but I'm lovin' it! I also STARTED my other 3 pregnancies a little more than I weigh right now. So, I'm honestly just glad I can move :)

Andy, pregnancy hormones help all the tendons around the hips relax...for obvious reasons :) It's the one thing my doc's been most concerned about - joint injuries from relaxed tendons. I'm just glad I BENEFITED from them this race.

Toby, thanks! oh..and I didn't turn to the side, side shot would've been MUCH worse, but I do feel good for only having 10 (hopefully less!) weeks left!

From Tom Slick on Sun, Apr 18, 2010 at 11:40:06 from 172.190.213.21

You are wonder woman!Congrats on doing the 1/2 in super style under very difficult conditions. Hey thanks for letting me come along for the ride, I can't remember when I've had so much fun doing a 1/2 marathon.

From Maurine/Miles on Sun, Apr 18, 2010 at 12:15:21 from 97.117.75.105

Awesome job! I love the shirt. Better save that for the little guy's memory book. His first race shirt.

From Kori on Sun, Apr 18, 2010 at 13:01:05 from 97.117.90.202

Wow! You ROCK!! I can't believe you are 30 weeks pregnant! I wasn't even thinking about running when I was that far along, but you look MUCH smaller than I was. Not a bad time to pull off, either, all things considered! Great job!

From Snoqualmie on Sun, Apr 18, 2010 at 13:18:16 from 24.18.192.33

You look GREAT in your funny shirt and super cute Atalanta skirt! (Did you know she's going out of business? Buy skirts now if you like them.) Great job on your race and your healthy pregnancy!

From RAD on Sun, Apr 18, 2010 at 20:11:16 from 67.172.229.125

Tom, anytime! It's always fun when you get to take it slow and smell the roses :)

Maurine, Thanks! Maybe I'll make him really wear it some day -hehehe

Kori, thanks! It was a really fun day, it's nice not to have any pressure or expectations at a race.

Sno, I did know about them going out of business and it makes me SO sad! They are my favorite!! You're good to pick it out!

From Michelle on Sun, Apr 18, 2010 at 20:20:39 from 97.122.175.87

Great race! I am glad you felt so well and still were able to run a good time. I like your shirt! I too am sad about Atalanta going out of business, I just discovered the skirts last year and now they're gone:(

From The Quiet Pirate on Sun, Apr 18, 2010 at 21:25:41 from 65.191.108.72

RAD- cute shirt with lots of fun sayings to keep the others runners entertained while you left them in your dust.

I'm glad you ran well, didn't have any problems, and had a good time with everyone.

I see from your pix that your hyacinths are out..yeah..spring must be in town! Cute how little Houdini made his way into the pix too.

You are a wonder woman. Makin' me proud :-). Now this week I get to brag about you to everyone I know!!!

From Burt on Sun, Apr 18, 2010 at 23:25:26 from 98.177.220.145

Good job RAD.

From RAD on Mon, Apr 19, 2010 at 15:29:16 from 67.172.229.125

Michelle, thanks and YES - I kept looking, and nothing in my size :( STINKS!! I'll have to make due with the 2 I have and NEVER lose them.

QP, yes, spring is here. I can actually smell them once in a while. Well, I'm sure there are a couple people we know you don't need to 'brag' about me to (hehehe) I already didn't win my ribbon!

Burt, thanks :) Did I ever tell you how cool you are in my book?

From Scott Wesemann on Mon, Apr 19, 2010 at 15:51:22 from 66.239.250.209

From Smooth on Mon, Apr 26, 2010 at 22:19:37 from 174.23.172.155

Here's my late CONGRATZ on your fantastic race. So HAPPY to hear that you had fun and a nice kick to the finish. Amazing pregnant run! These pix are priceless when the baby gets to be old enough to run, you can show him how he was racing in vetro!

The shirt turns out very nicely. SOOO FUNNY!!!
