Short-Term Running Goals:

Okay, so for 2013 I am going to have FUN! Not that running isn't always fun, but I had a wonderful breakthrough year last year and I want to play this year :) AND get faster! So, my first goal I'm going to put out there is my yearly mileage goal.
It is 2,186 miles from my driveway to my sister (QP's) driveway! I want to spend this year on a virtual trek cross country running those miles. So, that is how far I will run in 2013...from my house to QPs. It will take all year and yes, this is measured on Hwys so it isn't really exactly how I COULD run it, but good enough. 43 miles/week...totally doable, and a fun goal to track how far I've traveled as I go along. Who knows...maybe I'll even run PAST her house :)

I will do more trail runs, Boston, Pacing duties, another Half IM and some other tris. I'm excited for this next year and look forward to having fun with all of you out on the roads, and trails! Maybe bag a few peaks this year too!!

Long-Term Running Goals:

Big Dreams: 5K in 20:2X; 10K in 39:XX; Half in 1:29:XX; Full in 3:15:XX; complete the Rim2Rim2Rim run and not die; Comrades; Iron(wo)Man.

Run for the rest of my life!

Personal:

4 children: twelve, eight, five and baby Fartlek - 2 1/2. Wonderful supportive husband that lets me drag him and the family all over for race after race!

Finished 13 marathons and LOVE running that distance! I'm definitely hooked to the marathon monster and hope to constantly improve my endurance, speed and stay injury free!

I've also found a love of trail running! I hope to keep improving on this front.

After being injured with a broken foot at the first of 2012 I found a tri group and started training with them and am now loving tris! The half IM was harder than I'd ever imagined...and am ready to do it again. I'll earn my bike butt and someday have enough time to train for a full IM.

So, I did it!! Yea, another month, another PR :) okay, okay, I know this knocking off huge amounts can't last forever, but it really amazes me that just one year ago I ran this race in 2:09! I had a lot to prove to myself and I felt really good about my effort...now if I can just get my stinky ITbands to cooperate with me, I could maintain my speed through the last few miles NOT having to stop and stretch and making every stride painful. DANG!! Does anyone know what to say to a doctor to get him to do surgery so you don't have to deal with them anymore?!? I'm sick of them! Its been 18 months of dealing with them on and off, I thought losing 40 pounds would help, but nope...still fighting them 3 pounds away from goal weight :(

I don't remember what my overall placings were, but I can't imagine them being too bad - better than last year anyway :) My AP was 7:40, my best was 4:36 (holy moly!) and I had a total distance on the Garmin of 13.17 - didn't use my tangets well :) Here is a breakdown of the splits:

1- 7:14 (even with not realizing we were at the start mat and then having to walk for 50 yards before there was room enough to run!!)

2-7:06 (keeping up with Kelli)

3- 7:03 (still keeping up with Kelli)

4- 7:05 (Kelli's out of sight, because I stoped to 'swallow' water and she didn't)

5- 7:35 (no more Kelli to keep up with, I guess I just slowed down...)

6- 7:40 (staying steady even without Kelli - yea, I can do it myself! :) )

7- 7:23 (gu'd at mile 7 with h2o - I should've grabbed 2 cups, I had sticky all over in my mouth until the next water!)

8-7:50 (no idea why I'm slowing....)

9- 7:30 (this seemed like the longest mile... 10 NEVER came!!! but time was good.)

10- 7:59 (okay, this is where I'm having to stop to stretch those stinky IT bands!)

11- 8:02 (I round the corner from Liberty park onto state street and the line of runners doesn't seem to be turning at the courthouse like last year...it doesn't REALLY go all the way up that stinky hill ahead, does it?!? - obvious issues with IT and mental capacity!)

12- 8:49 (yup! It went ALL the way up the hill...the anticipation of the hill and the ITB's were KILLING me!! Trying to stay mentally strong and push out all I had!)

13- 8:20 (able to pick it up a little downhill - stopped in front of the temple to stretch IT's and the sister missionaries wished me luck. That was the reason I was so fast!!)

14- 8:11 (tried to pick it up to the finish and not let 'heavy breather' pass me - seriously, you could hear him when he was 50 feet behind me!! He did out sprint me to the finish...but only by 5 feet or so. My knees were spent, my heart and brain could've pushed, but my ITB's wouldn't move for loving or money! However, last year the run down Gateway was pure misery...this year I actaully enjoyed it AND it was 1/2 as long :)  )

So, there it is...in a nut shell (okay not really). I had a great race and besides nursing those STINKY ITB's feel GREAT!!! I actually got to meet some 'fun' people who run under 8 mm - I've found most people that fast are too serious to have fun and laugh/talk in a race!

28/557 for age group (wow, a ton in my age group!!)

307/4125 out of ALL runners

71/2544 women runners (hehe, top 100!!)

WOW Rachel! You are AWESOME! That is one heck of a PR! Alright- I want to know your secret to the 40# drop! Holy cow. I can't get the last 25# to budge! I really like where I am, which may be the problem- but I want LOWER!!! I suppose I could try at all that that would help ;D

For my IT problems, I have to stretch 2-3 times a day. I dunno. I know slower running helps. There are plenty of IT band issue runners out there, maybe they can help you out ;)

YOU ARE A ROCK STAR!!!!

From Brent on Sat, Apr 18, 2009 at 22:39:07 from 168.178.30.75

Devine Miss M -500 commando points for the PR, impressed with you pace the last few miles with IT band problems. Darn, wish we could have met, I have a great stretch for the IT Band, physical therapist showed me.

Question, did you sign up for the St.George lottery? If not, you should, your conditioning has BQ written all over it.

By the way, isn't it such a great feeling to be in shape, running like heck, pushing the pace, concentration, guts, etc.

Stay Kool, B of BS Rools out

Hey, I thought you said you could not write a race report detailing every mile??? You were supposed to stick with me on that one!

YOU DID AWESOME!!!! Stretch, Yoga, stretch some more, no TV unless you are stretching and Yogaing.

From Metcalf Running on Sat, Apr 18, 2009 at 23:30:41 from 71.219.132.113

You are stinkin' fast girl! You should be happy about the race... you did great!

From Nancy on Sun, Apr 19, 2009 at 09:15:54 from 76.27.11.127

Great job Rachel. I can't believe how fast you are getting.

From RivertonPaul on Sun, Apr 19, 2009 at 10:17:08 from 75.169.16.53

Congrats. Nice report.

From Burt on Sun, Apr 19, 2009 at 11:02:11 from 98.167.151.26

I don't know if I'm happier for your awesome time or that you're 3 lbs away from your goal weight! Either way, you rock! Awesome mile by mile report. See Kelli, us slower runners have more time in the race to think about what to blog. Those that run 1:36's, not so much. LOL.

From Kelli on Sun, Apr 19, 2009 at 11:31:38 from 71.219.84.84

As we ate lunch, I was amazed at what Rachel remembered from the race. I miss the mile markers and have no clue where I even am. I do not know the downtown area at all, once we left the University of Utah it was unfamiliar territory.

Now, Burt, my last two halfs were slower than Rachel, and I do not remember any of those races either. I think it must be my small brain.

From Burt on Sun, Apr 19, 2009 at 12:21:35 from 98.167.151.26

Kelli - I don't think we're even worthy enough to talk to you anymore. You're so out of our league.

From Cheryl on Sun, Apr 19, 2009 at 12:27:56 from 76.27.66.153

Great job, Rachel. That is quite an improvement in just one year. It should be a great racing season.

From Kelli on Sun, Apr 19, 2009 at 12:33:20 from 71.219.84.84

Whatever Burt. Fast legs, big brain, faster legs, small brain. You choose.

From RAD on Sun, Apr 19, 2009 at 15:11:43 from 67.166.99.8

You guys crack me up!! Thanks for all the 'commando points' everyone!! I had a great time, and Brent - yes it does feel GREAT! I'm sore in places I've never felt sore from running...that is good, means I was really pushing myself!

Kelli, trust me I don't remember that much - I just have to do something besides thinking about my running. Afterward, when I see my splits I can recount in my head what happened at almost every mile, and sometimes I just make it up :) I still don't remember excatly when and how many times I saw Walter!! Marion, I'm not sure about St George, but I'm thinking about it.

My IT's are a little better today. I'm sure it'll all wear off like normal...stretch, yoga, ice, stretch, yoga ice....hmmmm, normal stuff.

From Mary Ann Schauerhame on Mon, Apr 20, 2009 at 00:36:03 from 71.219.89.124

30 minutes faster than last year! Wow! Great job!

From luzylew on Mon, Apr 20, 2009 at 00:51:28 from 69.169.165.206

Seriously 2:09 last year down to 1:40? I took 5 minutes off my half and was so proud.....Amazing. Keep stretching and ice/heat alternating and be sure to let your legs recover. What a great race. Congratulations!

From Michelle N. on Thu, Apr 23, 2009 at 10:10:44 from 75.162.252.159

Wowwie Rachel! Awesome! You keep getting faster. I'll see you on Tuesday.

From Smooth on Mon, Apr 27, 2009 at 23:07:22 from 71.36.71.239

Sorry this is so late and lame. I lost a week to some serious vacationing.

RACHEL!!!! YOU WERE a ROCK STAR!!!! That was a HUGE HUGE PR!!! I just know you have SPEEDY legs. You keep getting faster and faster every time you post. My goodness, at your rate, you're gonna be a local elite by SGM. Ogden here you come!!!!
