Short-Term Running Goals:

Okay, so for 2013 I am going to have FUN! Not that running isn't always fun, but I had a wonderful breakthrough year last year and I want to play this year :) AND get faster! So, my first goal I'm going to put out there is my yearly mileage goal.
It is 2,186 miles from my driveway to my sister (QP's) driveway! I want to spend this year on a virtual trek cross country running those miles. So, that is how far I will run in 2013...from my house to QPs. It will take all year and yes, this is measured on Hwys so it isn't really exactly how I COULD run it, but good enough. 43 miles/week...totally doable, and a fun goal to track how far I've traveled as I go along. Who knows...maybe I'll even run PAST her house :)

I will do more trail runs, Boston, Pacing duties, another Half IM and some other tris. I'm excited for this next year and look forward to having fun with all of you out on the roads, and trails! Maybe bag a few peaks this year too!!

Long-Term Running Goals:

Big Dreams: 5K in 20:2X; 10K in 39:XX; Half in 1:29:XX; Full in 3:15:XX; complete the Rim2Rim2Rim run and not die; Comrades; Iron(wo)Man.

Run for the rest of my life!

Personal:

4 children: twelve, eight, five and baby Fartlek - 2 1/2. Wonderful supportive husband that lets me drag him and the family all over for race after race!

Finished 13 marathons and LOVE running that distance! I'm definitely hooked to the marathon monster and hope to constantly improve my endurance, speed and stay injury free!

I've also found a love of trail running! I hope to keep improving on this front.

After being injured with a broken foot at the first of 2012 I found a tri group and started training with them and am now loving tris! The half IM was harder than I'd ever imagined...and am ready to do it again. I'll earn my bike butt and someday have enough time to train for a full IM.

The two days of running around, staying up late and working on the room have caught up to me, I'm TIRED!

Went to the gym and did Boot Camp, it wasn't a crazy cardio workout, but she kept us moving on resistance the WHOLE time. Man alive, it was hard!

No energy to run after class so I walked on the TM for 1 mile @ 10% grade at 3 mph until it was time to go next door to story time at the library.

Now I'm home and have another full day in front of me to get ready for a journey down to Moab.

How far are you from Moab? That is a place I have always wanted to go. It looks so beautiful!!

Have a lovely day, Rachel!

From RAD on Wed, Apr 28, 2010 at 15:48:39 from 67.172.229.125

Moab is about a 5-6 hour drive from here. It is a BEAUTIFUL place! Honestly, it is my favorite place in the whole world - there is nothing more spectacular than the desert in spring time!

From KP on Wed, Apr 28, 2010 at 15:52:20 from 65.208.22.25

Ohhhh... I'm jealous!! That is a long drive though. I hope you're going for more than just the day. Take lots of pics to share with your envious Alabama friend who has never seen a desert other than Las Vegas. Does it count?

From RAD on Wed, Apr 28, 2010 at 15:58:23 from 67.172.229.125

If you've been off the strip in Vegas then yes :) However, Moab is SO different than Vegas! I will definitely post some pics on FB when we get home, and yes we're going for more than one day. With 3 kids in the car the drive seems a lot longer :)

Well, I did go to the Grand Canyon too... most amazing thing I've ever seen. Now that I'm into running I'd like to one day do this nonsense called Rim to Rim. Yea, I know... maybe I should run a 10k before I make such huge goals ;)

From RAD on Wed, Apr 28, 2010 at 16:04:09 from 67.172.229.125

Okay, the Grand Canyon is getting closer to Moab - but still not as good :)

As far as the rim to rim goes, I've seen at least one guy on the blog that has RUN the race. I have done the hike (south to north) in one day, and yes it's just over 26 miles. This was before I was a runner, but it took us about 14 hours including rests (which were many and one included a short power nap). We did it all in one day and it was simply AMAZING!!! I would do it again in a heartbeat. I'm not sure I'd want to run/race it, I think it would take away some of the beauty I was able to meander and enjoy. But...maybe someday if you do it I'll come with you!

From KP on Wed, Apr 28, 2010 at 16:11:02 from 65.208.22.25

Hiking... that is MUCH more my pace! Let's do it. Like, tomorrow. I'm only in Alabama and you're only 7.5 months pregnant. Minor details...

Does Moab have any races? Hmmmm...

From RAD on Wed, Apr 28, 2010 at 16:15:39 from 67.172.229.125

ooohhh, does Moab have any races? YES!! It's in March, not the best/easiest course, but a beautiful one! It's a lottery entry though, so we'll have to be feelin' lucky!!

We'll schedule the hike for next spring or fall - you have to do it early/late season, because when you're in the bottom of the canyon (at mid-day) it can get up to 120 degrees or more during peak season. When you go early it will stay closer to 95-100 which is tolerable to hike in, for a bit :)

Moab is a blast. I'm just a bit jealous.

From Carolyn in Colorado on Wed, Apr 28, 2010 at 16:35:24 from 198.241.174.15

I'm glad you took it a little easier today. Have fun in Moab! Are you just going for a vacation?

From RAD on Wed, Apr 28, 2010 at 16:42:45 from 67.172.229.125

Cal, It's the only time we can squeeze a 'family vacation' in between baby and school this year. I hope the weather isn't too horrible!

Carolyn, yes, we're just going for vacation. I'm a horrible mother and only like to do 'outdoors' vacations. I don't know if I'll ever get enough ambition to take my kids to Disneyland or somewhere like that - too much anxiety!!

From The Quiet Pirate on Thu, Apr 29, 2010 at 09:35:03 from 24.199.205.252

RAD- no way you're doing the GC trip without me...NO WAY! NO FAIR! NO! NO! NO!------- the not-so-quiet-pirate's temper tantrum is over.

Have a wonderful time in Moab. I know someone else who loves to go down there with family...shall I make arrangements for her to go with you too?????

From KP on Thu, Apr 29, 2010 at 09:46:16 from 65.208.22.25

QP, You are most definitely invited. I'll need both of you to drag me around. No way I'll make it otherwise.

I was googling Moab races yesterday looking for the famous (or is it infamous) Canyonlands, and I found a relay that looks kinda fun. Short, but fun! http://moabrelay.com/ Start planning. Considering the 2010 race is next weekend, start planning for 2011. Lets do it!

From RAD on Thu, Apr 29, 2010 at 10:38:56 from 67.172.229.125

QP- I'd never even think about doing the GC again without you!! sounds like me will be planning a 'spring in the desert Marathon' next year, so are you in or are ya gonna walk the plank??

Oh, and don't you even DARE!!! I may have running bear WITH me, but I don't want to listen to it :) Also, Lucy needs an emergency contact here...just in case :)

From Nancy on Thu, Apr 29, 2010 at 18:04:25 from 76.27.19.206

You trip to Moab sounds fun. I've only been there a couple of times. Once to run a race and once to River Raft. I think it is beautiful. Have Fun and Get some rest.

Devine, nice picture, are you wearing a du rag? Good form, top heavy or bottom heavy, don't know how you keep up the smooth form.
