Short-Term Running Goals:

Okay, so for 2013 I am going to have FUN! Not that running isn't always fun, but I had a wonderful breakthrough year last year and I want to play this year :) AND get faster! So, my first goal I'm going to put out there is my yearly mileage goal.
It is 2,186 miles from my driveway to my sister (QP's) driveway! I want to spend this year on a virtual trek cross country running those miles. So, that is how far I will run in 2013...from my house to QPs. It will take all year and yes, this is measured on Hwys so it isn't really exactly how I COULD run it, but good enough. 43 miles/week...totally doable, and a fun goal to track how far I've traveled as I go along. Who knows...maybe I'll even run PAST her house :)

I will do more trail runs, Boston, Pacing duties, another Half IM and some other tris. I'm excited for this next year and look forward to having fun with all of you out on the roads, and trails! Maybe bag a few peaks this year too!!

Long-Term Running Goals:

Big Dreams: 5K in 20:2X; 10K in 39:XX; Half in 1:29:XX; Full in 3:15:XX; complete the Rim2Rim2Rim run and not die; Comrades; Iron(wo)Man.

Run for the rest of my life!

Personal:

4 children: twelve, eight, five and baby Fartlek - 2 1/2. Wonderful supportive husband that lets me drag him and the family all over for race after race!

Finished 13 marathons and LOVE running that distance! I'm definitely hooked to the marathon monster and hope to constantly improve my endurance, speed and stay injury free!

I've also found a love of trail running! I hope to keep improving on this front.

After being injured with a broken foot at the first of 2012 I found a tri group and started training with them and am now loving tris! The half IM was harder than I'd ever imagined...and am ready to do it again. I'll earn my bike butt and someday have enough time to train for a full IM.

Oh I am SO over hills! SO. OVER. HILLS.

No, I've never liked hills and yes, I'm whining (sorry, bad attitude day). This course was a BEAST. I've never run anything quite like it before. I've been through Thanksgiving Point Gardens so I knew what I was in for, but holy Hannah! I tell ya, by mile 9 I was cussing the rolling hills under my breath. Rollers all OVER the place. Not a good uphill, not a good downhill, just up and down and up and down every 20-50 feet. It is pretty in the gardens and I'm sure as you drive your cart along the golf course, but man alive it is NOT fun to run! Okay...I'm done now.

Met Smooth, Toby, Catherine, Karen and Lowell for a 5 mile warm-up and well, since I was the late one (yes, bad day all around) we only got 4.5 in - which left just enough time for a potty stop and a quick breather before the race.

AP for warm-up: 9:09

My plan was to hit MP for the race. I'd been cautioned about the difficulty of the race course and told that getting into the 8:10-8:15 range would be sufficient effort. I  lined up and started around the 1:55 pacer, but quickly decided if I caught up to the 1:45 pacer and stayed in front of him I'd be golden. Well, poor pacing again as he caught me around mile 4-5 and said he was almost 2 min ahead of time. We leap frogged a lot through the gardens, but then I finally left him just as we started the golf course trail. I never heard from him again until mile 8 when he said ":45 ahead of pace." As I'd seen my splits I figured he must have said 1:45...but who knows. I didn't care, I'd already decided I was just running MY race - screw the bad pacers. Oh, as a side note, the 2:00 pacer came in at 1:53...nice....

Anyway, I was tired of the course hills and cussing it, but I kept seeing my paces come in despite the bad terrain. It was giving me confidence and hope. At mile 11 I almost decided to slow down to 8:30's, but by then I had my ego to deal with and all the people around me. So...I carried on. I was pleased with my finish time and effort that seemed honestly a bit too hard for MP, but I'm trying to remember the terrain difference.

AP: 7:58 (I got the course at 13 even, so my AP according to the race is 7:54)

Splits: 7:35, 7:38, 7:39, 7:47, 8:12, 8:11, 8:11, 8:12, 8:07, 7:55, 8:20, 8:08, 7:41

After everyone came in and we got to chat with Jun, Lily, Julie C and lots of others we all headed off for our last 4.5. I got a chance to run a bit with Smooth, then finished up with Toby and Karen. I felt good, but run down. The legs are feeling the miles.

AP for cool down: 9:49

Overall I felt good about this run, but I still need that mental boost to hit Ogden the way I should. C'mon Rachel...you CAN do this...you can.

YES! YES! YES! Rachel YOU CAN DO IT!!! Another OUTSTANDING race and so soon after your SLC HALF PR! EXCELLENT performance on a tough course. I'd say your mental toughness is getting up there right along your fitness. YOU DONE GOOD GIRL!!! Getting faster all the time! :)

Thanks for hanging with me on the cool down miles. I would've quit if weren't for you taking walk breaks with me! You're the best! It was a fun morning! :)

From steve ash on Sat, Apr 28, 2012 at 17:33:39 from 50.8.121.33

Yes Rachel you can! You are definitely a warrior. Good luck at Ogden lady:)

From Chad Robinson on Sat, Apr 28, 2012 at 17:38:50 from 75.162.246.174

Rachel, you should definitely feel good about this race. Ogden is long, mostly straight, and downhill with long rollers. It is definitely a good rhythm course. Get healthy and you will do great.

From bye-wing on Sat, Apr 28, 2012 at 18:44:55 from 124.121.134.8

You can do it!

From Rachelle on Sat, Apr 28, 2012 at 18:47:53 from 66.7.127.115

Rachel I think you approached this race absolutely perfectly. You did a great job all things considered and you should be going into Ogden with TONS of confidence. Because believe me when I say this...you have totally ROCKED this training cycle.

Great job today!

From catherine on Sat, Apr 28, 2012 at 19:03:10 from 98.202.112.38

You really are going to be great at Ogden. You're so prepared, you've had confidence-building experiences, and you're awesome! Thanks for letting me tag along this morning for the extra miles. :)

From Jake K on Sat, Apr 28, 2012 at 20:30:48 from 67.182.215.126

You ran great today Rachel! Give yourself some credit, 13 miles @ MP in the middle of a 22 miler would be challenging on a flat or downhill course... you did it on the hardest course around! Be very, very confident in yourself - you can do this!!!

From runningafterbabies on Sat, Apr 28, 2012 at 20:34:26 from 71.195.219.247

Rachel, one of the best mantras you can repeat to yourself is, "you can do this.". It is also extremely beneficial to hear it from others along your way, so here is me, cheering you on and believing in you. YOU CAN DO THIS.

From Carina on Sat, Apr 28, 2012 at 21:01:17 from 204.15.86.83

Rachel, you had a great race and running day!! You have every reason to be confident going into Ogden, I just know you're going to ash it!!! So sad I missed seeing you this morning :(

From Toby on Sat, Apr 28, 2012 at 21:11:06 from 199.101.229.6

You can do hard things. You can do them well. You can beat them down. YOU CAN!

It was so fun to warm up and cool down with you (I knew I wouldn't see you during the race...YOU ROCK!!!!)! Ogden is going to be so wonderful for you...I can just feel it! Just believe in yourself!

From Lily on Sat, Apr 28, 2012 at 21:30:54 from 67.199.178.210

I have confidence after seeing all your training that Ogden will go down the way you want it to!

I had a blast seeing you all this morning. You crack me up. I LOVED your running skirt and the purple shirt went perfect!

From prestonmadera on Sat, Apr 28, 2012 at 22:42:09 from 24.10.186.194

I think I ran around you, or next to you the entire lame time through the golf course. I was the big red-head in the black livestrong shirt. I think I almost ran into you, and if that was you I am so sorry! Great race!

From Kelli on Sat, Apr 28, 2012 at 23:27:45 from 74.211.0.198

you WILL do it

From Nancy on Sun, Apr 29, 2012 at 07:07:22 from 76.23.21.118

Great job Rachel. Even with a hard course you killed it. I think all the Hills you run made you strong.

From Chad on Sun, Apr 29, 2012 at 09:56:21 from 71.199.13.143

You're putting out some impressive times. Nice job. Your relentless hard work is really paying off. You'll do great at Ogden.

From RAD on Sun, Apr 29, 2012 at 13:33:18 from 98.202.23.178

Thanks Smooth! You've always been one of my greatest supports - and one of the big reasons I RUN! You're amazing.

Steve, thanks! hopefully, I won't need luck...but I'll take it anyway!

Chad R, definitely going to work on the healthy side now. The hay is in the barn and now it is time to get TO the line.

bye-wing, thanks :)

Rachelle, if you have any good tips for me I'd really appreciate them! You finally nailed your full, so I'm counting on your help :)

Catherine, any time! I love running with you. You are a great friend, mother and runner!!

Jake, confidence is the hardest thing to gain, but I'm getting there.

Melody, thanks! I'll remember than when the demons creep in and tell me I can't.

Carina, I'm bummed I missed you too! But, I'll remember your support when I'm wimping out :)

Toby, you've been such a great running partner that I think YOU are the reason I've had such a good training cycle :) Thanks lady!

Lily, sorry I was such a potty mouth, but that course beat the crap out of me! Especially pushing MP! Thanks for letting me hang out with you and all the cool people :)

Preston, YES! I do remember you! I think you were right there with the red shirt guy when I finally opened my mouth to complain about the dumb hills and he said "oh, I love these, because you can see the top." I wanted to punch him :) I did NOT like them! We leapfrogged quite a bit on the course, I'll have to come read your report. Sorry if I unloaded any bad mojo on you! :) oh, and if you ran into me...I don't remember. All I remember is hating those darn rollers!

Kelli, thanks lady :) you're the best! literally!!

Nancy, I just keep thinking that if I keep running them they've got to get easier...right?

Chad, thanks. It hasn't been easy, and I think that is the hard part for me. I want MP to FEEL easy and it just doesn't. So a non-easy pace for 26 miles just seems exhausting in my head. But, I'm gonna do it darn it, I'm gonna do it!

From prlman on Sun, Apr 29, 2012 at 16:03:09 from 208.54.4.208

Strong run girl!!! You did just what you set out to. I really wanted to come join you all,but had to work blah. You can do this thing. Ogden is so in your reach. I am going to try and join you guys for some of your tuesday/Thursday runs. So we can practice some mp and tempo stuff together

From glidergirl on Tue, May 01, 2012 at 11:09:59 from 71.219.128.5

Like Matt said, that is a GREAT race after a super fast half last Saturday and lots of miles inbetween. Great job! :)
