Short-Term Running Goals:

Okay, so for 2013 I am going to have FUN! Not that running isn't always fun, but I had a wonderful breakthrough year last year and I want to play this year :) AND get faster! So, my first goal I'm going to put out there is my yearly mileage goal.
It is 2,186 miles from my driveway to my sister (QP's) driveway! I want to spend this year on a virtual trek cross country running those miles. So, that is how far I will run in 2013...from my house to QPs. It will take all year and yes, this is measured on Hwys so it isn't really exactly how I COULD run it, but good enough. 43 miles/week...totally doable, and a fun goal to track how far I've traveled as I go along. Who knows...maybe I'll even run PAST her house :)

I will do more trail runs, Boston, Pacing duties, another Half IM and some other tris. I'm excited for this next year and look forward to having fun with all of you out on the roads, and trails! Maybe bag a few peaks this year too!!

Long-Term Running Goals:

Big Dreams: 5K in 20:2X; 10K in 39:XX; Half in 1:29:XX; Full in 3:15:XX; complete the Rim2Rim2Rim run and not die; Comrades; Iron(wo)Man.

Run for the rest of my life!

Personal:

4 children: twelve, eight, five and baby Fartlek - 2 1/2. Wonderful supportive husband that lets me drag him and the family all over for race after race!

Finished 13 marathons and LOVE running that distance! I'm definitely hooked to the marathon monster and hope to constantly improve my endurance, speed and stay injury free!

I've also found a love of trail running! I hope to keep improving on this front.

After being injured with a broken foot at the first of 2012 I found a tri group and started training with them and am now loving tris! The half IM was harder than I'd ever imagined...and am ready to do it again. I'll earn my bike butt and someday have enough time to train for a full IM.

yeah...got some sleep last night :) I feel asleep right after "The Office" on the couch and then didn't wake up until 8:00 this morning. I hope this helps make up for having to get up at 3AM for the race tomorrow....*yawn*

Went to the gym, just to get the blood flowing to the legs.

45 min on the elliptical @ L6  Then 40 Min on the bike @ L2.

The best part was I got REALLY into my new book. I wish I had another 90 min block of time at the gym to 'read' so I could finish now....

Picked up 'my' race packet in Ogden, got some good free goodies at the expo and got to meet Bart Yasso! Actually meeting him I had to buy his book for him to personally sign - yeah, go ahead...call me a sucker! I figure I'll have a good 4 weeks of 'down time' that I might be able to get some reading in. He was impressed that I'd even consider running a 1/2 at 34 weeks pregnant, but he said it simply reassured him of his prediction that women are 'taking over' the sport and that over long distances (like ultras) women will and have proven that they run better than men. So, we may not run as fast...but we can run longer! That's what I tell my kids when they think they're 'all that' and try to beat me in a foot race :)

I am impressed that you are running a 1/2 at 34 weeks. I considered running one at 31 weeks(the Utah Valley 1/2) but when I went to maybe register it was full. My husband is doing the full marathon the same day so I can just be his support person.

Michelle, Now that I got into the marathon in October it's become a head game to keep my miles up so that I can make it a successful marathon. I was also going to do UVM with some friends training for their first 1/2's here in our ward; however, they didn't sign up before it filled up either. They decided to do Bear River 1/2 and I then found out that a good friends wedding was that day so I couldn't really 'travel' to a 1/2. Kind of bummed not to go with them, but it may be for the best anyway. If I'm still in running shape, maybe I'll drive down to Orem/Provo and meet you for an easy early morning run while waiting for your hubby to come in if we can swing it!

RAD and Michelle, you're both amazing and dedicated to run while pregnant like you are. I hope you two are able to meet up next time Michelle is in Utah.

RAD, I'm glad you got a good night's sleep. Good luck in Ogden tomorrow.

BTW, what book are you reading that is so good?

From RAD on Fri, May 14, 2010 at 19:33:53 from 67.172.229.125

Carolyn, the book "Same Kind of Different as Me" I guess it's based on a true story. My book club read it last month, but it took too long to get from the library (about 4 weeks) so I'm reading it this month. In my 90 min in the gym it had me laughing AND crying! It's not a drama/girlie book, but a good modern historical-fiction one...well, not fiction since it's based on a true story I guess.

Good luck with your race tomorrow. That is awesome that you are going to run 34 weeks pregnant. Woohoo!

Hey Rachel...Isn't he a nice guy?!!! I got to chat with him for a few minutes this morning when he was setting up for his talk. He said this is his last marathon before heading out to South Africa in a few days to run the Comrades Marathon. I think I saw you walk by during his talk. I was sitting on the front row. I didn't want to be rude by getting up right in the middle of it or I would have said hello to you.

From RAD on Fri, May 14, 2010 at 23:34:56 from 67.172.229.125

Scott, thanks! It's all just fun and keeping me sane at this point - well, and hoping that afterward I can get back to marathon in time for SGM!

Dale, I did think he was GREAT! I'm friends with him on FB so I felt an even deeper connection (hahaha! Like being friends on FB all of a sudden no longer makes me a stranger :) ). At the end of his speech he said the same thing! My sister and I have dreamed of Comrades...and I think I will continue to do so for quite some time now! What an amazing accomplishment! I can't wait to read about it in RW or on his FB page. Oh, no worries about not saying hello!

Rachel, Comrades would be an awesome race to run. I doubt that I would ever be able to make the trip, but it's fun dreaming about it.
