Short-Term Running Goals:

Okay, so for 2013 I am going to have FUN! Not that running isn't always fun, but I had a wonderful breakthrough year last year and I want to play this year :) AND get faster! So, my first goal I'm going to put out there is my yearly mileage goal.
It is 2,186 miles from my driveway to my sister (QP's) driveway! I want to spend this year on a virtual trek cross country running those miles. So, that is how far I will run in 2013...from my house to QPs. It will take all year and yes, this is measured on Hwys so it isn't really exactly how I COULD run it, but good enough. 43 miles/week...totally doable, and a fun goal to track how far I've traveled as I go along. Who knows...maybe I'll even run PAST her house :)

I will do more trail runs, Boston, Pacing duties, another Half IM and some other tris. I'm excited for this next year and look forward to having fun with all of you out on the roads, and trails! Maybe bag a few peaks this year too!!

Long-Term Running Goals:

Big Dreams: 5K in 20:2X; 10K in 39:XX; Half in 1:29:XX; Full in 3:15:XX; complete the Rim2Rim2Rim run and not die; Comrades; Iron(wo)Man.

Run for the rest of my life!

Personal:

4 children: twelve, eight, five and baby Fartlek - 2 1/2. Wonderful supportive husband that lets me drag him and the family all over for race after race!

Finished 13 marathons and LOVE running that distance! I'm definitely hooked to the marathon monster and hope to constantly improve my endurance, speed and stay injury free!

I've also found a love of trail running! I hope to keep improving on this front.

After being injured with a broken foot at the first of 2012 I found a tri group and started training with them and am now loving tris! The half IM was harder than I'd ever imagined...and am ready to do it again. I'll earn my bike butt and someday have enough time to train for a full IM.

Holy Moly - this is by far THE hardest 1/2 I have ever run, pregnant or not. The trails were brutal, my heart rate was higher walking up them than running flat. I thought the hill up to behind the zoo was the 'hill of death' that would do me in, then we hit the shoreline trail behind This is the Place Monument....HAHAHAHA, I laugh at the hill up behind the zoo! Then the downhills were crazy wicked on the trails too.

Once we hit about mile 10, it was all nice downhill - oh I was SO grateful! I ran all the 'hills' to mile almost 6 without stopping, but I could walk up the trails faster than I could run. Long legs make for long strides walking, but when running uphill you must take shorter steps. I almost passed some people trying to run :)

I kept up with the same group of runners the whole time and pulled ahead of most of them at the finish...or at least caught up lost ground. Honestly, a 2:09 is VERY respectable on this course! Unless you're Kelli or Teena - I think they should both have a run off next year on this course to truly take the title of 'queen of hills'!!

I was SO excited to see Maurine there! She was volunteering at a water stop, so I got see her at the beginning, middle and end! Since I'd been so whiny about wanting someone to run with me (and ended up doing it alone anyway), it REALLY lifted my spirits to see another amazing blogger out on the course and get to chat and have a good time with her! PLUS she saved me from having to take/ride the bus back to the start - THANKS!!!

Overall, it was a great race! I certainly didn't have the kick at the end that a downhill race give you - my legs were trashed, but it was still a good finish! I also met and chatted with a few fellow racers. One lady would always make sure I got water at the aid stations, she said it was the mother in her, she had to take care of me! Lots of fun comments on the shirt as well. I'm glad I did it! I feel good and am ready for a gluttonous Memorial Day :)

AP: 9:50 (total elevation GAIN 1531 ft)

splits: 9:55 (started with a fun girl to chat with and it felt slow, but the conversation was worth it!),

9:14 (this felt more like MY pace),

9:35 (1st 'hill'),

8:53 (as I ran this mile I had decided this was my average effort pace - pretty flat, considering, and I felt good!),

9:54 (what I thought was the 'hill of death' hahaha! -173 ft of gain),

10:39 (start of the trail portion -213ft of gain)

13:15 (mostly walking/hiking up the hills on the trails - I'd run the flat and short downs, but YIKES! I tell ya...this was a CRAZY mile!! -315ft of gain)

10:01 (more hills/trails, but we caught a few good downhills that evened out my pace -116 ft of gain, but 242 down)

10:26 (I honestly thought we were done with the hills...until I went around a corner and saw one that was about 50 ft plus straight up...ugghhh! More walking, glad the downhill can balance my AP for the mile! -203 ft of gain and only 94 down)

9:13 (caught a REALLY nice downhill on this mile...had to open it up! My 'max' speed was a 6:40 during this mile)

9:12 (nice down/flat along the top of the avenues in SLC, again this felt SO easy!)

8:51 (coming DOWN city creek canyon to the capitol...ahhh, but my legs were still pooped from all the uphill.)

7:26 (for the .13 Garmin had to the finish, can't help but open up the finish sprint a bit :) Especially in front of a crowd and heading downhill!)

From Maurine/Miles on Mon, May 31, 2010 at 15:12:24 from 97.117.64.176

So glad to see you out and running like a crazy woman. Next year I will run this behind you. Check out our picture on Facebook!

You're an animal.

From Nancy on Mon, May 31, 2010 at 18:05:30 from 76.27.19.206

Wow that was a great half for an 8 months pregnant girl. At was faster than I can run a half. Great Job. I'm sure your baby will come out running.

From Merri on Mon, May 31, 2010 at 22:34:33 from 160.7.252.148

Rad you're amazing running so well pregnant!!! Sweet time and great race report. :)

From RAD on Mon, May 31, 2010 at 22:46:44 from 67.172.229.125

Allie, remember, I'm not crazy I'm just bored :) What else would I do at 7AM on a holiday? Sleep?.. nah, doesn't happen despite trying lately :)

JD, thanks! It's nice to know you can take your division running 30 min slower than first place :) (well, I don't think there were any other crazy pregnant women on the course)

Maurine, you would LOVE the race! AND I love the pic on FB, I should figure out how to add it to my blog...hmmm.

Carolyn, I tried not to - I couldn't help it, I knew I'd kick myself if I didn't do it!

Nancy, I'm not sure about him running right off the bat. I think he'll just be HORRIBLY spoiled and think he needs to constantly be bounced around!

Merri, Thanks! I'm envious of you being finished and recovering to running 'alone' again! 3 more weeks from tomorrow marks induction date...fingers crossed!

From Toby on Mon, May 31, 2010 at 23:08:08 from 216.194.124.36

Oh my goodness.....you are CRAZY!!! Crazy and awesome! Great race :)

From Teena Marie on Mon, May 31, 2010 at 23:22:39 from 174.52.45.85

You seriously are tough!!! AND ... despite what you think, I'm sure you would have kicked my trash on those hills. Kelli, well, she is just a freak of nature when it comes to hills (and mileage for that matter)!

GREAT JOB!!! JohnnyV took me on a lot of that course a little over a year ago. Those are some killer hills! :)

Very nicely done toughie! :)

From Smooth on Mon, May 31, 2010 at 23:26:33 from 174.23.172.155

WOW!!! Rachel!!! I KNEW you'd do it!!!

CONGRATULATIONS!!! You're AMAZING!!! They really should have a PREGO division. You'd win everyone of them! EXCELLENT race! Now, please take it easy from now 'till the bambino comes, will ya? :)

From readyornot on Mon, May 31, 2010 at 23:30:08 from 174.23.88.161

rad-it's your SIL. I am now on here. You rock!

From Kelli on Mon, May 31, 2010 at 23:35:29 from 71.219.93.114

So you ran it in the end----and you did GREAT!!!!!!

Awesome picture of you two girls!

From RAD on Mon, May 31, 2010 at 23:41:54 from 67.172.229.125

Toby, thanks :) I wonder about myself sometimes, but then I remember I'm really just bored. I need to get a life!

Teena, oh NO! I walked the hills, I don't think I could run those to save my life!! They are stinkin' tough!

Smooth, I guess maybe I should start to 'taper' for my 'marathon' I've got coming in a few weeks, huh? :)

ReadyorNot, I'm excited that you decided to finally join the blog! It's fun, and you'll LOVE it!!

Kelli, it was fun! I knew I'd regret it if I didn't so I just stopped being a pansy and signed up. If I'd known about the steeplechase earlier though I may have bagged it and just done that one out and back.

***Note to all***

readyornot is my Sister in Law that finally set up her blog. Feel free to swing by and welcome her to the fun!! SGM will be her first full!! She's going to need some training company in July while I'm taking care of Bourne Runner/Fartlek :)

From LuzyLew on Mon, May 31, 2010 at 23:42:53 from 208.187.197.42

So glad you got that last one in there. It sounds like a really tough course pregnant, or not -- I can't believe how fast you ran it. Hopefully, with that last race tucked under your belt, you can rest up now for the 'big' event of having this baby. Be well. Good job!

From RAD on Mon, May 31, 2010 at 23:53:33 from 67.172.229.125

Luz, I'm looking forward to a little rest! I always LOVE the way I feel when I finish a run, but lately an hour or so later I'm ready for a nap! I MAY say this is my last one, but with me you never know :)

From KP on Tue, Jun 01, 2010 at 09:15:31 from 65.208.22.26

you are AMAZING! i'm so proud! now enjoy some "rest" time before baby fartlek comes.

From JulieC on Tue, Jun 01, 2010 at 09:41:22 from 71.219.41.152

I love it!!! gREAT JOB!! : D

From Michelle on Tue, Jun 01, 2010 at 09:52:56 from 97.118.36.161

I am glad you enjoyed the race. Running uphill really wipes me out. I hope you enjoyed a nice recovery day yesterday.

From leslie peterson on Tue, Jun 01, 2010 at 11:25:28 from 174.52.158.81

I think we need to restrain you! Are you ready to act pregnant yet? lol!!! You are something else girlfriend! Nice job, unbelieveable really.

From Snoqualmie on Tue, Jun 01, 2010 at 11:27:46 from 24.18.192.33

Running for 2 - very nicely done!!

From Scott Wesemann on Tue, Jun 01, 2010 at 13:18:37 from 66.239.250.209

Congrats on your race RAD. That is sooo cool that you are still doing races. I love it. You really are tough.

From josse on Tue, Jun 01, 2010 at 16:27:01 from 75.231.180.40

Good job girly:) wish I could run that much that far into my pregnancy.

From RAD on Tue, Jun 01, 2010 at 16:40:35 from 67.172.229.125

KP - I'm working on the 'rest' thing :)

Julie - Thanks, it really was a GREAT morning.

Michelle - I don't like uphill either! I'm not normally a 'hills' girl, but add 25 pounds and stick a fork in me -I'm DONE with them! :)

Leslie - I think someone may have to restrain me...or give me a good reason to stop :)

Sno - I passed a guy (not running the race) pushing a jogging stroller. We looked at each other and said nearly together: "it's easier this way" :)

Scott - It was a fun time; however, it's always strange to 'race' without 'racing'. WHOLE new mind set!

Josse - It's just my extra height. I'm jealous you don't have to wait till 44 weeks to deliver :)

From Tom Slick on Wed, Jun 02, 2010 at 12:12:15 from 168.179.157.104

Again you completely astound me...another 1/2 marathon and you are as PG as you can get, only thing left for you is to pop! Congrats on a great run carrying an almost 6 lb baby. Your doc has to take into account that you are in such great shape that the baby is going to hit the ground fit and trim and ready to do a 1/2 marathon.

From runningafterbabies on Wed, Jun 02, 2010 at 22:45:12 from 67.177.9.74

I can't believe how tough you are. Hills nearly kill me and I am not 9 months prego. Way to go!
