Short-Term Running Goals:

Okay, so for 2013 I am going to have FUN! Not that running isn't always fun, but I had a wonderful breakthrough year last year and I want to play this year :) AND get faster! So, my first goal I'm going to put out there is my yearly mileage goal.
It is 2,186 miles from my driveway to my sister (QP's) driveway! I want to spend this year on a virtual trek cross country running those miles. So, that is how far I will run in 2013...from my house to QPs. It will take all year and yes, this is measured on Hwys so it isn't really exactly how I COULD run it, but good enough. 43 miles/week...totally doable, and a fun goal to track how far I've traveled as I go along. Who knows...maybe I'll even run PAST her house :)

I will do more trail runs, Boston, Pacing duties, another Half IM and some other tris. I'm excited for this next year and look forward to having fun with all of you out on the roads, and trails! Maybe bag a few peaks this year too!!

Long-Term Running Goals:

Big Dreams: 5K in 20:2X; 10K in 39:XX; Half in 1:29:XX; Full in 3:15:XX; complete the Rim2Rim2Rim run and not die; Comrades; Iron(wo)Man.

Run for the rest of my life!

Personal:

4 children: twelve, eight, five and baby Fartlek - 2 1/2. Wonderful supportive husband that lets me drag him and the family all over for race after race!

Finished 13 marathons and LOVE running that distance! I'm definitely hooked to the marathon monster and hope to constantly improve my endurance, speed and stay injury free!

I've also found a love of trail running! I hope to keep improving on this front.

After being injured with a broken foot at the first of 2012 I found a tri group and started training with them and am now loving tris! The half IM was harder than I'd ever imagined...and am ready to do it again. I'll earn my bike butt and someday have enough time to train for a full IM.

Today was a blechy kind of day. I just feel yuck. Met BBK's for the lovey hill run at Lampton View Drive - nice easy warm up (AP 9:13) then the fun began.... 2 mile hill run at tempo pace (hahaha, definintley NOT this morning!) 7:57, 8:42 - short recovery then another one: 8:27, 8:46. Can you tell where the biggest uphill comes??? Then a nice cool down recovery 1.15 miles: AP 9:00.  Into the 2nd repeat about .25 mile I was ready to barf, I've just felt yucky! My son was diagnosed with strep on Monday and I'm really afraid that I'm getting it. I even ate and drank this morning and made sure to drink a lot last night to replace what the chlorine in the pool sucks out of you! Afterward I went to yoga and even there after eating a GOOD breakfast: blueberry waffle and greek yogurt with blueberries and organic granola, I still felt yucky and a couple times I could barely focus my eyes. Really felt like when my blood sugar drops, but I knew it couldn't be that because of the low glycemic breakfast. I don't get it! I'm just going to try to go to bed early tonight and take it easy tomorrow so I have enough energy to pull through my long run Saturday.

I'll be going to a BBQ with my WBR team to decide legs - I'm in van 2: any suggestions for legs I should grab or avoid???

AWESOME hill workout! Look at your mileage this week and they are all hard workout miles. No wonder you felt a little icky. You are eating very well and hydrating properly. I'm sure it's the extra sleep that you need.

I'm in van 2 and have the easiest legs, runner #7. I had to play the grandma card to get it. I know my quads would be shot not to mention the ITB after UVM; so I don't mind running the uphill to avoid the downhill altogether.

From Kelli on Thu, Jun 04, 2009 at 14:50:43 from 71.219.74.247

I say go for 7 if you want the easiest! And I am all for the easiest, wish I could have had it in my van but I lost the popularity vote!

Get some sleep and feel better soon!

Sorry you are not feeling well today, I hope a good nights rest will do the trick.

I'm with Kelli and Smooth, 7 is the easiest, I think 8 is not too bad. I'm runner 9 and have the first 4 miles of the big hill. They also added about 4 miles to this leg from last year.

From Metcalf Running on Thu, Jun 04, 2009 at 15:27:04 from 207.225.192.66

Kelli what leg are you running?

From RivertonPaul on Thu, Jun 04, 2009 at 15:43:22 from 67.42.27.114

Good job. Did you guys run down to the parkway path after Lampton View?

From marion on Thu, Jun 04, 2009 at 16:43:26 from 71.213.119.157

Great run! Mom speaking- Are you taking some recovery time???? don't go kicking your bum into an injury :)

XOXOXO

You are amazing! You make me sort of want to go skydiving :) SORT OF!! ;D

From RAD on Thu, Jun 04, 2009 at 16:53:43 from 67.166.99.8

Smooth, I'm hoping to avoid some of the big 'hills' due to ITB as well! I think I always need extra sleep!!

Kelli, I can't believe YOU lost the popularity vote! :) You're always #1 in my book chicka!!!

Lori, thanks. I'm just hoping my throat doesn't start to hurt - THAT would be a downer! I'm NOT voting me for #9!

Paul, we did the park trail and back to the top for warm-up. The 'hill run' was down Lampton to Riverview then to where the trail hooks back into the subdivision and back (it really was exactly 2 mi on my Garmin).

Marion - You are SO coming with me next time I jump!! I'll even let you have Fish as your tandem master (he IS the best!) :) I honestly thought I was getting good recovery, but I'm doubting myself now. Hopefully a good couple days off will do it! (oh, and you can give me 'mom' advice all day!!)

RAD- I just don't want to see you get injured by not taking it easy for the four weeks following the marathon. You are TOO awesome to get a dumb injury ;) xoxoxo

From RivertonPaul on Thu, Jun 04, 2009 at 17:04:31 from 67.42.27.114

I thought I heard you guys running past my house. (Reeves Lane).

We all need to share our team names and legs and cars and such so we can look for each other. I will put that on my Blog tomorrow and see if I can get everyone to tell us so we can cheer each other on! It would be cool to see each other.

From Kelli on Thu, Jun 04, 2009 at 18:12:54 from 71.219.74.247

Oops, I forgot to answer Lori----I am #10. From "easy" leg 2 (notice the quotation marks---none of the legs are easy, but it was easier!) bumped to van #2 runner #10, the second half of Ragnar. Can you say FAST HIKE?

From RAD on Thu, Jun 04, 2009 at 18:32:36 from 67.166.99.8

Marion, today was a definite slap in the face for me. I will be taking it easy now!

Paul, sorry I made so much ruckus with my 'I can't breathe and I'm gonna die' panting this morning :)

Kelli, GREAT idea! My team name is "are you kidding me?" I'm in van 2 - or so I think...we'll see what leg tonight :)

From Kelli on Thu, Jun 04, 2009 at 18:34:39 from 71.219.74.247

Rachel, do not be hard on yourself! EVERYONE struggled today (go read Peggy's blog!) That was a seriously tough tempo run. Those hills were brutal, especially on the way back!!! Today was hard, you are tired, and you still kicked butt. And, at least you didn't throw up in downward dog!

From marion on Thu, Jun 04, 2009 at 18:37:45 from 71.213.119.157

I didn't mean to slap you :( Love :D

From RAD on Thu, Jun 04, 2009 at 23:25:06 from 67.166.99.8

Thanks Kelli, that really makes me feel better! I guess I need to give myself some lee-way still from the marathon. I'm just wondering when I get to see some benefits from it all??

Marion, you didn't slap me - those hills did! You just helped me realize what they did.

The vote is in, I got leg #9 - we'll see how it pans out. I guess its the bottom of 'Ragnar' hill - maybe I shouldn't curse those hills so much anymore!

From RAD on Thu, Jun 04, 2009 at 23:26:06 from 67.166.99.8

haha- just looked at my past comments. I forgot I WASN'T going to do #9. DANG!!

From Kelli on Thu, Jun 04, 2009 at 23:33:43 from 71.219.74.247

Well, if you were gonna do Ragnar, you should have picked runner #10, then we could have raced each other to the top.

Did you hear Peggy say that for every mile you run in a race you should take that many days off (easy recovery)? So, we still have like a week!

From RAD on Thu, Jun 04, 2009 at 23:37:36 from 67.166.99.8

Yea!!! I'll take another week the way I feel today. I remembered you saying you had 9 or 10, but I liked the 9 route better (they made me take either 9, 10 or 11) than 10, because of the middle run (9.8 rolling hills) and I didn't want 11 because of the downhill...I don't want to risk pushing the ITB downhill for 8 miles!

From Kelli on Thu, Jun 04, 2009 at 23:45:51 from 71.219.74.247

11 would be very bad for your IT band!!! Walter is doing that one for us!
