Short-Term Running Goals:

Okay, so for 2013 I am going to have FUN! Not that running isn't always fun, but I had a wonderful breakthrough year last year and I want to play this year :) AND get faster! So, my first goal I'm going to put out there is my yearly mileage goal.
It is 2,186 miles from my driveway to my sister (QP's) driveway! I want to spend this year on a virtual trek cross country running those miles. So, that is how far I will run in 2013...from my house to QPs. It will take all year and yes, this is measured on Hwys so it isn't really exactly how I COULD run it, but good enough. 43 miles/week...totally doable, and a fun goal to track how far I've traveled as I go along. Who knows...maybe I'll even run PAST her house :)

I will do more trail runs, Boston, Pacing duties, another Half IM and some other tris. I'm excited for this next year and look forward to having fun with all of you out on the roads, and trails! Maybe bag a few peaks this year too!!

Long-Term Running Goals:


Big Dreams: 5K in 20:2X; 10K in 39:XX; Half in 1:29:XX; Full in 3:15:XX; complete the Rim2Rim2Rim run and not die; Comrades; Iron(wo)Man.

Run for the rest of my life!

Personal:

4 children: twelve, eight, five and baby Fartlek - 2 1/2. Wonderful supportive husband that lets me drag him and the family all over for race after race!

Finished 13 marathons and LOVE running that distance! I'm definitely hooked to the marathon monster and hope to constantly improve my endurance, speed and stay injury free!

I've also found a love of trail running! I hope to keep improving on this front.

After being injured with a broken foot at the first of 2012 I found a tri group and started training with them and am now loving tris! The half IM was harder than I'd ever imagined...and am ready to do it again. I'll earn my bike butt and someday have enough time to train for a full IM.

Took a little test run today, didn't bring the garmin, I guess it's been too long since I've run. Every stride was painful/annoying, on a scale I'd say it was a 2/10 or so - it really started to hurt when I stopped and walked just from the mailbox to the house. It seems to get worse after I stop; however, it was buggin' during the run as well. Funny, but I've just decided I'm a hypochondriac and am making it all up - it doesn't  really hurt because there is nothing wrong with my leg, so I'll run and do whatever I want because there is nothing wrong - it's all in my head! 

Got home and took the family out on a bike ride, fun easy ride - but took my Garmin for fun.  There was one point I was going easy on a flat and looked at my pace, I was going slower than Walter runs a marathon - gave me a good chuckle that I can't even ride a bike faster than he can run! Total of 6 miles with 400 ft total elevation gain and an AP of 6:41, fastest pace was 1:27 - YEE-HAW! :) If anyone knows how to switch the Garmin to 'bike mode' I'd appreciate some help on that! Leg felt a little achy on the 'push' of the pedaling, but it was a TON better than the run. Now that I've stopped it again seems to be getting worse - if there was any REAL pain and I wasn't just making it all up that is.

Click the "mode" bottun, scroll down to "settings" using the arrow keys; push "enter." Scroll down to "biking," press "enter" and "enter" again on the highlighted USE THIS SPORT. Press the "mode" key until your back to the start up screen and your good to go. Hope that helps.

THANKS MRSFIT!! I guess I just assumed it would somehow know I was biking and not running...dumb I know, but that's what I thought! I mean, who can RUN a 1:27mm??

Devine Miss M - Hope your ok, did the bike ride bother it? Did spinning bother it or swimming? Don't you have a 10K on the 4th? Well, be careful, Some good cross training, you will not lose much conditioning if any for a couple of weeks. I have never had a stress fracture in the thigh bone, always in the shin bone. By the way, may help to stay away from down hill running, reduce the pounding, maybe run on dirt or grass and see how it feels.

Brent, the bike ride was a little bothersome on an occasional 'push' on the pedal, but overall not bad. Swimming was zero pain. Doc says no SF (long explanation on yesterdays entry). We've got lots of dirt roads out here, maybe I'll try that. NO 10K paid for, I'd like to do the Riverton one, but we'll have to see how time goes - my mom is trying to convince me to go up to Clearfield for the parade at 9:30. I just hate driving past 50 other parades to get there!

Um, I really suggest you stay off of that. That is the way mine felt in the beginning. Did you do a bone scam? My SF did not show up on the Xray, but it took 8 weeks to heal. The pain is not in your mind, I know exactly how that feels. You think, "oh, it is only 3 miles, I can handle it." Really you can't handle it. If it's not feeling natural, get off of it. Just my advice.

Bec, I did have a bone scan -MRI. The doc is having me back in on Monday too, I just wanted to try it out today. I'm definitely going to take it easy though, I just needed a run for my mental well being today :)

There's an article about injury in the August Runner's World (I can't find it online) in which it turns out that the author went to Dr. John Sarno who concluded that nothing was physically wrong with the author. The pain was real (not in his head) but was caused by his brain, which gave the body pain as a distraction from other things. That's Dr. Sarno's basic premise. I'm not really familiar with his work. I think Snoqualmie is. I just thought I'd bring it up as a possibility.

Rachel, I would say if it hurts that bad---do not run for a bit! Sometimes the pain goes away after a few miles, then I would say to run. but if it is that bad there HAS to be something wrong! What about the classes at the gym? How did they feel?

Pain is real especially if it doesn't ease up once you're warmed up. It's difficult to pick up stress fracture from imaging. I know it's more "painful" NOT run than to run with pain. Seriously, you know how to Xtrain which is a great way to get your body strong in other areas and you'll be a stronger healthier runner because of it.

Carolyn, when I got my runners world out of the mailbox I sat down and thumbed through it and honestly that was the article that caught my attention. I started reading, but due to small children and life was unable to finish it and see WHY he was experiencing the pain no one could diagnose. I'll have to finish it - THANKS!

Kelli, the classes were okay. Some of kick-boxing gave me the pain, but most did not - I didn't get through much of step, but what I did was no/little pain.

Smooth, I've noticed the pain is the worst when I stop an activity or when I've been sitting then get up and try to walk. You should've see me hobble from the car to the mailbox tonight, it was nearly comical!!!

I'll see what I can do, but someone better talk me out of running the Riverton 10K tomorrow quick, or I'm just gonna :) I figure if I'm in pain walking, why not run...my body then has something other than the pain to pay attention to.
