Short-Term Running Goals:

Okay, so for 2013 I am going to have FUN! Not that running isn't always fun, but I had a wonderful breakthrough year last year and I want to play this year :) AND get faster! So, my first goal I'm going to put out there is my yearly mileage goal.
It is 2,186 miles from my driveway to my sister (QP's) driveway! I want to spend this year on a virtual trek cross country running those miles. So, that is how far I will run in 2013...from my house to QPs. It will take all year and yes, this is measured on Hwys so it isn't really exactly how I COULD run it, but good enough. 43 miles/week...totally doable, and a fun goal to track how far I've traveled as I go along. Who knows...maybe I'll even run PAST her house :)

I will do more trail runs, Boston, Pacing duties, another Half IM and some other tris. I'm excited for this next year and look forward to having fun with all of you out on the roads, and trails! Maybe bag a few peaks this year too!!

Long-Term Running Goals:

Big Dreams: 5K in 20:2X; 10K in 39:XX; Half in 1:29:XX; Full in 3:15:XX; complete the Rim2Rim2Rim run and not die; Comrades; Iron(wo)Man.

Run for the rest of my life!

Personal:

4 children: twelve, eight, five and baby Fartlek - 2 1/2. Wonderful supportive husband that lets me drag him and the family all over for race after race!

Finished 13 marathons and LOVE running that distance! I'm definitely hooked to the marathon monster and hope to constantly improve my endurance, speed and stay injury free!

I've also found a love of trail running! I hope to keep improving on this front.

After being injured with a broken foot at the first of 2012 I found a tri group and started training with them and am now loving tris! The half IM was harder than I'd ever imagined...and am ready to do it again. I'll earn my bike butt and someday have enough time to train for a full IM.

Wow, this run was definitely a good one. Good sarcastically for the uphill PLUS horrible winds, and good honestly for the downhill paces I was able to keep afterward. A very good confidence builder for me.

Met Becca, Annette, Cal and Ryan at the Riverton Hospital, then began our trek up...up...up. It was SO nice to hit some of those hills at the beginning of a run instead of at the end like I normally have to do! Then, we finished up Yellow Fork Canyon. Once we hit the cove it was like a hurricane pushing you back, even the downhills felt like effort. I was SO glad to have that over and done with at 8.5 miles!

Turned and came down and my goal was to hit some MP miles on the downhill to see how it felt to carry that pace after a long hard push on the legs. It didn't feel too bad, but by the end I was done. Looking at my splits I'm very happy with the consistent effort I held over the 8.5 back down. That pace isn't necessarily EASY for me, but it's not hard. Which after topping a nearly 50 mile week is a good sign that I can hold it in a full, right? (yes...I'm asking for encouragement here).

Feeling good and not too sore - after an ice bath :) I'm really looking forward to the next two weeks of tapering along with the full, only 14 more days!! YIPEE!!

Thanks all for joining me in my crazy run this morning, and a special thanks to Cal for the water stops. Garmin has it at just over 1000 ft of elevation gain, which Cal figured was about 2.5% average grade over the 8.5 miles (how he does that while running, I have NO idea!!). A great final effort to top off an amazing whirlwind training after baby! Sweet thing is 3 months on the 22nd, oh how time flies.

AP: 8:52  uphill splits: 9:31, 8:56, 9:05, 9:16, 9:02, 9:34, 10:02, 10:16 - holy cow. Seriously that canyon with the wind took it out of me!! Other than those last two I feel really good about those uphill splits, and honestly those last two I do feel good about, because I know the effort that was put into those 10mm!! Downhill splits: 9:09 (1/2 of this was up), 8:06, 8:05, 8:02, 8:18, 8:08, 8:25, 8:15, 8:31 - I blame the higher 8:31 on the last mile from having to go up and over Bangerter on the bridge, it messes with the Garmin on those tight turns. So, my AP for the 8 full downhill was 8:13....right on target.

Not bad RAD. Not sad. Makes me glad. Tell your dad. Have you talked to Chad? He's a good lad.

you rocked it - it was RAD to get to know you all this morning. We'll see you in St. George

Yea RAM, steady as she goes! Your dialed in now for a great SGM. Two more weeks of dedicated taper and your home free. Only thing to worry about now is to have your smile on for your kodak moment at the finish line.....

PERFECT!

Nicely done!

Nice running Rachel. I think those downhill miles are a good indication of how you could do at St. George. Great job!

You've been doing great. Lots of great confidence builders and encouragement!!

Now all you need is a good taper :-) And some time on the foam roller ;-)

And some rest .... oh, and some ice cream too! And that's it!

Great job! Sounds like a fun run. I bet the hill work will make you super speedy.

From Bec on Sun, Sep 19, 2010 at 21:10:22 from 174.52.1.155

Great job on the run yesterday. Thank you for incorporating 8.5 up and then down. This was a perfect pre St. George run.

I have never knew that canyon was even there. As I drove down the freeway today I noticed that side of the mountain is on fire. We ran that death march just in time. :)

Thanks for all of the support you give me with running.

From RAD on Mon, Sep 20, 2010 at 03:20:07 from 67.172.229.125

Nancy, thanks!

Burt, I'll let my dad know next time I see him :)

Ryan, I had a great time, thanks for the company!

Slick, picking out the outfit as we speak :)

Teena, thanks! LOVE the encouragement.

Cal, I hope so, I think I'm ready to tackle it though.

Callie and Toby, thanks girls! We need to all run together sometime.

QP, sometimes I think I'm married to that foam roller :)

Catherine, I just hope someday I'll LIKE hills!

Bacca, yeah...the canyon is gone now, well, the beauty of it, and all the homes. This fire is CRAZY! I'm just glad my house is safe - breathing air is going to be horrible for a couple days.

From ryandla on Mon, Sep 20, 2010 at 10:20:36 from 192.41.84.124

were you in the evacuation area? what a mess

From RAD on Mon, Sep 20, 2010 at 12:02:33 from 67.172.229.125

Ryan, no we are about 1/2 mile North of evac area. Cal is a few houses away from the evac line, but it all looks SO much better this morning.

If you remember the pond as we started up the canyon? That is 'the cove' that they keep talking about. From what I understand they even saved the homes there! I am AMAZED at how many homes are NOT burned!! It looked rather bleak last night.

From Calvin on Mon, Sep 20, 2010 at 12:04:58 from 66.133.117.3

I agree Rachel. From what i was seeing last night, i expected much worse damage.

From Lily on Mon, Sep 20, 2010 at 12:09:42 from 67.199.181.73

OOoo 17 miles on Sat for you. Nice work for sure! I can't wait to see how you do at St. George! :)

From Chad on Mon, Sep 20, 2010 at 12:11:38 from 168.177.153.5

I'm glad to hear you're safe. I hope the air quality doesn't mess up your training the next two weeks. Is there a threat to your house or is the fire contained enough to where they won't have to evacuate more homes?

Anyway, I know you are going to kick St. George.

From RAD on Mon, Sep 20, 2010 at 12:12:35 from 67.172.229.125

Cal, that has been the miracle this morning! It looked horrible last night and I would've sworn at least a dozen houses were burning. I can't believe how many they saved!

Lily, thanks - I'm keeping a level head about it and hoping a good taper is headed my way. Now if I can get all the ash out of my lungs....
