Short-Term Running Goals:

Okay, so for 2013 I am going to have FUN! Not that running isn't always fun, but I had a wonderful breakthrough year last year and I want to play this year :) AND get faster! So, my first goal I'm going to put out there is my yearly mileage goal.
It is 2,186 miles from my driveway to my sister (QP's) driveway! I want to spend this year on a virtual trek cross country running those miles. So, that is how far I will run in 2013...from my house to QPs. It will take all year and yes, this is measured on Hwys so it isn't really exactly how I COULD run it, but good enough. 43 miles/week...totally doable, and a fun goal to track how far I've traveled as I go along. Who knows...maybe I'll even run PAST her house :)

I will do more trail runs, Boston, Pacing duties, another Half IM and some other tris. I'm excited for this next year and look forward to having fun with all of you out on the roads, and trails! Maybe bag a few peaks this year too!!

Long-Term Running Goals:


Big Dreams: 5K in 20:2X; 10K in 39:XX; Half in 1:29:XX; Full in 3:15:XX; complete the Rim2Rim2Rim run and not die; Comrades; Iron(wo)Man.

Run for the rest of my life!

Personal:

4 children: twelve, eight, five and baby Fartlek - 2 1/2. Wonderful supportive husband that lets me drag him and the family all over for race after race!

Finished 13 marathons and LOVE running that distance! I'm definitely hooked to the marathon monster and hope to constantly improve my endurance, speed and stay injury free!

I've also found a love of trail running! I hope to keep improving on this front.

After being injured with a broken foot at the first of 2012 I found a tri group and started training with them and am now loving tris! The half IM was harder than I'd ever imagined...and am ready to do it again. I'll earn my bike butt and someday have enough time to train for a full IM.

Man alive something is wrong! George told me today that my hematocrit should be back to normal within a few days. It has been a week and my running is still suffering. I seriously can hardly breathe. Ugh. Either way I did the Shaggy Mtn loop this morning. I was trying to hurry home so that I could say goodbye to Craig before he left for his work trip. I didn't stop at 2 regroup places so that I could get home and the last one I wasn't the back of the pack so I waited a couple min to regroup. He was waiting, impatiently, but still waiting for me when I got home. A quick hug and a kiss and he was gone *sigh*

the run was pretty slow for me (1:13:45), but I think my last few miles were a decent pace. I'll have to check when I download my garmin. I just need to keep blogging and not get behind again! 

After getting kids off to school I did an hour on the bike trainer. It was nice to warm up again. Even though it wasn't horrible this morning I was still chilled for a good hour afterward.

I'm hoping to make it to the gym again tonight with Amy.

Usually its about 6-8 weeks for hematocrit to fully bounce back to pre-donation levels. For sedentary people, a 10-15% dip isn't the end of the world. For athletes... a whole different story!

awwww man, I am so sorry. We need to get together and run, I feel the same way. No motivation and well, I didn't donate blood but I might as well have.

Stay strong, you get through stuff like this rather quickly.

Jake, 6-8 weeks huh? I've got a long road ahead of me. Who had the idea to donate some of my precious red blood cells? Glad I don't have anything in my sights until February.

Slick, yes sir! 2014. Hematocrit? I donated blood and I'm missing some now.

Becca, I really could use you this week...oh man I could.

Toby, I love off season running. A bunch of fun "junk" miles :) Got my shoes on and nowhere particular to go, just wandering for MILES!

If you think about it, it makes sense... *most* of the blood counts bounce back in the first couple weeks, but then it still takes a while for the rest to completely recover. It takes a few extra weeks to get those last couple percentage points back. A normal person can't tell the difference between being at 95% of normal and 100% of normal, but a runner sure can! Its a huge difference in our world.

Untimately, one of the main things we are doing by training is changing our blood profile.

So, you may not feel like normal for a bit, but don't panic - you know the reason why. And you know it WILL bounce back.

Just don't push yourself too hard the next couple weeks so you can recover more quickly!
