Short-Term Running Goals:

Okay, so for 2013 I am going to have FUN! Not that running isn't always fun, but I had a wonderful breakthrough year last year and I want to play this year :) AND get faster! So, my first goal I'm going to put out there is my yearly mileage goal.
It is 2,186 miles from my driveway to my sister (QP's) driveway! I want to spend this year on a virtual trek cross country running those miles. So, that is how far I will run in 2013...from my house to QPs. It will take all year and yes, this is measured on Hwys so it isn't really exactly how I COULD run it, but good enough. 43 miles/week...totally doable, and a fun goal to track how far I've traveled as I go along. Who knows...maybe I'll even run PAST her house :)

I will do more trail runs, Boston, Pacing duties, another Half IM and some other tris. I'm excited for this next year and look forward to having fun with all of you out on the roads, and trails! Maybe bag a few peaks this year too!!

Long-Term Running Goals:

Big Dreams: 5K in 20:2X; 10K in 39:XX; Half in 1:29:XX; Full in 3:15:XX; complete the Rim2Rim2Rim run and not die; Comrades; Iron(wo)Man.

Run for the rest of my life!

Personal:

4 children: twelve, eight, five and baby Fartlek - 2 1/2. Wonderful supportive husband that lets me drag him and the family all over for race after race!

Finished 13 marathons and LOVE running that distance! I'm definitely hooked to the marathon monster and hope to constantly improve my endurance, speed and stay injury free!

I've also found a love of trail running! I hope to keep improving on this front.

After being injured with a broken foot at the first of 2012 I found a tri group and started training with them and am now loving tris! The half IM was harder than I'd ever imagined...and am ready to do it again. I'll earn my bike butt and someday have enough time to train for a full IM.

Ankle is MUCH better today. Still some swelling and tenderness, but when I woke up this morning I didn't have to think about before I walked on it - always a good sign.

Boot camp this morning - I swear Heidi was out to kill us today!! We did 3 runs outside during class (only .2 each) - felt slow and tired.

Hit the TM to finish up 4. My goal is to do 4 each day (broken up or not) then at least a consistent 6 on Saturday. Walked for 5 min to warm up, then I started at a 10mm, holy cow! I was running next to Kelli while she was pushing a 7:30 or something for her last 2-3 miles and I was breathing harder than she was. It was still slow and difficult, but I stuck with it.

Then...I hit the stupid emergency stop - UUGGGHHHH! Well, after restarting and trying to figure out all the math, I got back at the 10mm and trudged through the first mile. Second mile I hit a 9:45mm, then the last mile I bumped it up one tenth mph every tenth of a mile. Ended up at an 8:40 mm for the AP (starting at 9:30mm). A total of 3.4 on the TM straight.

I definitely am a distance runner - those first few miles ALWAYS kick my butt and are hard, but give me a few and I finally fall into my rhythm. Can't wait to build back to mileage I like, slowly, but surely!

Nice job today!!! Wow, you do a lot. Sorry about the ankle. I am the same way, it takes me a while to warm up and get into a rhythm.

Dale, It's strange, but those first few miles really ARE the hardest. I'm glad someone else agrees!

From Carolyn in Colorado on Wed, Mar 24, 2010 at 16:59:17 from 198.241.174.15

I agree too. I cannot start out fast. I need at least a couple of miles to get going.

I'm glad your ankle is feeling better.

I hate that darn emergency stop button. It never fails; I hit it at least once on every run, if not more. It makes me so darn mad. Argh...

Nice run, RAD!

I'm sorry about your ankle. I can't believe we both twisted them in the same day.

You are a great runner at any distance. I'm glad you will be back running with us next week. I can't wait to see you again. It's been a while.

glad to hear your ankle is healing

happy 4 you getting your miles in

you've got a good, reasonable plan to get back to the big miles

From Smooth on Thu, Mar 25, 2010 at 00:35:47 from 174.23.198.220

4 is good even though they're the hardest! Pretty soon you'll be running double digits!

From Bec on Thu, Mar 25, 2010 at 00:45:24 from 76.23.55.210

Dreadmill, gotta love that boring machine. I am still laughing about your ankle, even if it's not a laughing matter.

From Michelle on Thu, Mar 25, 2010 at 10:13:00 from 71.218.114.99

I agree the first 3 miles are always hard for me. 6 miles is my favorite distance because I get past the tiredness and then finish before I am at all fatigued. Great job building your miles back up!

So glad to hear your ankle is feeling so good!

From Kelli on Thu, Mar 25, 2010 at 14:17:51 from 71.219.89.155

Those first few (or 5-6) do really suck, I agree! I am so with you on that, I hate the beginning. That is why short races are the worst.

Thanks for getting me through the end! You rock!

And you have not posted yet today, but WOW, did you run like 6 or more?????

From RAD on Thu, Mar 25, 2010 at 14:42:34 from 67.172.229.125

Carolyn, I too am learning my patience with getting my pace back.

KP, I think the WHOLE gym (and maybe the library next door) heard my frustrating scream when it stopped!

Julie, I know! When I read Kelli's post I felt SO bad - I knew exactly what you were dealing with. Weird! Good luck on Saturday, I'll have some 'special' ankle healing speedy water for you at mile 5! :)

QP, sometimes the best laid plans must fall. We'll see :)

Smooth, right now double digits scare me like they did 2 years ago!

Becca, it is funny, no worries about laughing at it.

Michelle, I TOTALLY agree. I love 10K races!

Callie, it is feeling better - good maybe overdoing it, but definitely better!

Kelli, I keep reminding myself that, I I remember by the end of the run...but ugghhh - right now 4 is killing me. No, I just spent time on the TM :) the $2 was worth my sanity today!
