Short-Term Running Goals:

Okay, so for 2013 I am going to have FUN! Not that running isn't always fun, but I had a wonderful breakthrough year last year and I want to play this year :) AND get faster! So, my first goal I'm going to put out there is my yearly mileage goal.
It is 2,186 miles from my driveway to my sister (QP's) driveway! I want to spend this year on a virtual trek cross country running those miles. So, that is how far I will run in 2013...from my house to QPs. It will take all year and yes, this is measured on Hwys so it isn't really exactly how I COULD run it, but good enough. 43 miles/week...totally doable, and a fun goal to track how far I've traveled as I go along. Who knows...maybe I'll even run PAST her house :)

I will do more trail runs, Boston, Pacing duties, another Half IM and some other tris. I'm excited for this next year and look forward to having fun with all of you out on the roads, and trails! Maybe bag a few peaks this year too!!

Long-Term Running Goals:

Big Dreams: 5K in 20:2X; 10K in 39:XX; Half in 1:29:XX; Full in 3:15:XX; complete the Rim2Rim2Rim run and not die; Comrades; Iron(wo)Man.

Run for the rest of my life!

Personal:

4 children: twelve, eight, five and baby Fartlek - 2 1/2. Wonderful supportive husband that lets me drag him and the family all over for race after race!

Finished 13 marathons and LOVE running that distance! I'm definitely hooked to the marathon monster and hope to constantly improve my endurance, speed and stay injury free!

I've also found a love of trail running! I hope to keep improving on this front.

After being injured with a broken foot at the first of 2012 I found a tri group and started training with them and am now loving tris! The half IM was harder than I'd ever imagined...and am ready to do it again. I'll earn my bike butt and someday have enough time to train for a full IM.

Bacon day messed up all my plans. Yes, bacon day. My husband and his co-workers frequently do bacon day. They buy POUNDS of butcher bacon and bring it to our house (closest to work) and cook it up for lunch - and they (all 5 or 6 of them) eat it all. Crazy I tell you! So, I played hostess to a smokey bacon filled house of computer nerds instead of getting a nap and reading my book this afternoon. Oh well, I guess there is always tomorrow.

6 on the TM at the gym. Took 30 seconds longer than yesterday. TT: 50:05, AP: 8:20. Started at 8:27 - lungs feel tight from this nice cold I'm fighting, so I wanted to keep it easier. At 3.5 miles went to 8:20, then at 5 miles did MP (7:53) until 5.5 then 7:47 till the last quarter and went progressive to finish at 7:03mm.

Went to the pool and swam with the Masters swim coach. Good times. Warm-up, pulls, kicks, then I did 3X50's easy, med, fast (1:00, :55, :50) repeated twice. 400M to cool down then daycare time was up.

Good workout for a Tuesday. Can't wait to swim again tomorrow. There is something just relaxing about floating along in the water. I'd like to get out early tomorrow to run, but since I didn't get my nap today I might be too tired :)

Bacon day, why didn't I think of that? Actually Bacon is outlawed in my house. True story, my wife will not let bacon through the door.

I love swimming too, it just feels good. After that initial freezing cold plunge.

Rob, you just have to get some poor sucker at work to volunteer their house. But come late (after the cooking) or you'll drag bacon smell home and get in trouble :)

From Rob on Tue, Nov 29, 2011 at 18:11:57 from 187.50.185.99

Most guys get busted for smoke or perfume smell. I'd get busted for bacon :)

From Teena Marie on Tue, Nov 29, 2011 at 18:14:11 from 174.27.201.172

BACON DAY????? Haven't heard of that one!!!! :)

I really should do some drills in the pool like you do ... but I love my relaxing freestyle way too much!!! Dang!!! :)

Nice job all around! :)

From Scott Wesemann on Tue, Nov 29, 2011 at 18:18:03 from 205.158.160.209

I love bacon! Now I want some.

From RAD on Tue, Nov 29, 2011 at 18:20:29 from 98.202.23.178

Rob, I think you should do it just to see the reaction :)

Teena, I've actually found the drills help quite a bit. I still do mostly the nice easy freestyle, but the drills keep me from simply counting lap upon lap upon lap. I'm don't have a fancy ipod, so I get bored sometimes :) Try a Masters swim class sometime. That is where I learned all the 'good' stuff!

Scott, maybe we should do a bacon RUN sometime! My hubby will cook :)

My husband loves bacon but not the lingering smell in the house. So we cook it outside on the little foreman grill. It's smokey and stinky that's for sure.

From Carina on Tue, Nov 29, 2011 at 19:24:03 from 204.15.86.83

We always get that precooked bacon at Costco, it still smells, but not as bad. What a good wife you are to allow that :)

From Chad on Tue, Nov 29, 2011 at 19:44:05 from 71.199.13.143

Maybe I'll try carrying bacon instead of Hammer Gel.

From Bec on Tue, Nov 29, 2011 at 19:52:43 from 68.206.133.141

This post just brightened my day! :) I am proud of you to let that stench enter your home, I know that I couldn't. All of that bacon makes for a crazy day. Do they just eat it plain? Gross.

Your workout is great. Good for you to get in the pool after you run. There is a pool here but I haven't attempted it yet, maybe on a day when I want to get my hair wet.

From Steam8 on Tue, Nov 29, 2011 at 20:56:58 from 166.70.55.77

Bacon day sounds great! My hub would love that and so would my kids! You still got in a great workout and able to put a smile on your face for hostess......what a great day!

From Smooth on Tue, Nov 29, 2011 at 22:52:30 from 174.27.205.151

You GOT a GREAT workout day and still be a wonderful hostess. GOOD JOB, Rach!:) :) :) :)

Bacon Day puts a whole new twist to the phrase *bringing home the bacon*. Last time I cooked a pack of bacon (actually the only time ever) was when Lowell stayed at my house for the PE50. That was the greasiest smelliest thing! NEVER again! :)

From Chad on Tue, Nov 29, 2011 at 22:59:05 from 204.113.19.55

There are way too many people bagging on bacon. Here is my vote of approval for everything bacon.

From Toby on Tue, Nov 29, 2011 at 23:44:09 from 199.101.225.254

I need to send over some Scentsys for you...but we don't have any "Eau de Bacon". Maybe something Christmasy??

Super woman as always with all your calories burned!

From The Quiet Pirate on Wed, Nov 30, 2011 at 11:14:12 from 152.26.59.252

i can't stop thinking about bacon. I love BACON! But crispy bacon, not soggy bacon.

Miss our runs :-(

I did see the sunrise this morning over the trees though.

From RAD on Wed, Nov 30, 2011 at 16:18:16 from 98.202.23.178

Lily, that isn't a bad idea! Maybe next time they'll be shunned outside.

Carina, I LOVE that pre-cooked stuff!! No mess/smell, just 20 seconds in the microwave. However, that thin flavorless bacon (as described by my husband) would NOT fly for bacon day. They MUST use the thick cut butcher bacon from Harmons.

Chad, I know someone who eats bacon within an hour after every marathon! AND it got him through a 50 miler too!!

You may want to consider it :)

Becca, they eat some of it plain, but mostly in sandwiches. They bring bread, cheese, lettuce, tomatoes etc and make a 'meal' of it. You should swim! You know you love it :)

Steam, I think next time I host a run we'll have to do it at my house - and have a bacon run! :)

Smooth, yeah and that was 'thin' bacon! We filled almost a quart jar with the pour off grease from this bacon. Seriously - a quart!! Oh, and my house STILL reeks of bacon and I can't open the windows - too cold!

Chad, I think you and the creator of bacon day, Dave, would get along VERY well!!

Toby, PLEASE bring me anything other than bacon smell :) I've got the warmers - maybe I should just pull out some of my own scents to get it out of the house!

QP, No soggy bacon allowed, theirs is always crisp and good. Dave is the cook and does a very good job at it! I miss our runs too, just finished off another punch card at the gym today :(
