Short-Term Running Goals:

Okay, so for 2013 I am going to have FUN! Not that running isn't always fun, but I had a wonderful breakthrough year last year and I want to play this year :) AND get faster! So, my first goal I'm going to put out there is my yearly mileage goal.
It is 2,186 miles from my driveway to my sister (QP's) driveway! I want to spend this year on a virtual trek cross country running those miles. So, that is how far I will run in 2013...from my house to QPs. It will take all year and yes, this is measured on Hwys so it isn't really exactly how I COULD run it, but good enough. 43 miles/week...totally doable, and a fun goal to track how far I've traveled as I go along. Who knows...maybe I'll even run PAST her house :)

I will do more trail runs, Boston, Pacing duties, another Half IM and some other tris. I'm excited for this next year and look forward to having fun with all of you out on the roads, and trails! Maybe bag a few peaks this year too!!

Long-Term Running Goals:

Big Dreams: 5K in 20:2X; 10K in 39:XX; Half in 1:29:XX; Full in 3:15:XX; complete the Rim2Rim2Rim run and not die; Comrades; Iron(wo)Man.

Run for the rest of my life!

Personal:

4 children: twelve, eight, five and baby Fartlek - 2 1/2. Wonderful supportive husband that lets me drag him and the family all over for race after race!

Finished 13 marathons and LOVE running that distance! I'm definitely hooked to the marathon monster and hope to constantly improve my endurance, speed and stay injury free!

I've also found a love of trail running! I hope to keep improving on this front.

After being injured with a broken foot at the first of 2012 I found a tri group and started training with them and am now loving tris! The half IM was harder than I'd ever imagined...and am ready to do it again. I'll earn my bike butt and someday have enough time to train for a full IM.

Crazy morning around my house today! baby woke up about 5 minutes before Sandra came so I had to do a quick feeding and cross my fingers he would go back to sleep. We ran our Mirabella loop backwards today and Sandra seemed a lot stronger with that direction, so maybe we'll keep it! AP 9:40. I was fighting nausea, but chatting with Sandra I could keep it at bay.

I got home and went to the kitchen to grab a glass of milk to hopefully calm my stomach down, but I turned on the light and YIKES! All the chairs from my table were tipped over all over the kitchen, all the drawers in the kitchen were open and the books on the end table in the family room were spread all over the floor. I was in a panic. I went and grabbed my husband to ask him if he knew anything about it and he was just as surprised as I was. Lucy's kennel is down in that area so we figured it had to be someone in the family, because Lucy would bark or whine if it was a stranger. My oldest is a known sleep talker/walker so I was worried she had done it in her sleep and if so, then this would call for some testing and at least an alarm on her door so we would know when she got up. How I (or my hubby) slept through all of this I'll never know!

So, I grabbed my glass of milk and Lucy and we headed out for our 5K loop. Less than 1/4 mile into it my stomach blech came back, I seriously have never felt SO sick running - even when I was pregnant (and NO I am NOT prego now! - trust me.) I just wanted to stop and throw up, but there were too many cars around, so I cut the loop short and headed back home with just 2 additional miles under my belt. Funny thing is, the AP was the exact same as with Sandra: 9:40.

I got home and still no kids were awake, but my husband broke the news about the riff-raff to me (my daughter heard the commotion downstairs and told my husband when he came back up to get ready for work). My 2 oldest children had conspired together to become 'leprechauns' and make a 'surprise' for mom and dad. My daughter had woken up early (she was the one that woke up the baby!) and went downstairs after she heard me leave and got the business done. Crazy kids! I was SICK with worry about her and sleeping issues, never once did I think about a leprechaun sneaking in my house and trashing my kitchen. Crazy kids, I guess they got us good!

So, we got the kids ready for school and they found the gold coins the REAL leprechauns had left for them in their bags and shoes and had milk that the REAL leprechauns had turned green with Lucky Charms for breakfast then we headed off for school.

I hit the gym for yoga and today was honestly my favorite day of yoga so far. I'm learning to like the more intense yoga that Abby does and just do some extra stretching afterward. She talked a lot about not letting the 'stories' in your mind control what you do. Reminded me of my run yesterday. You just have to take inventory and realize that it is in your head that you can't do it, push that aside and then carry on and breathe through. Be IN your body and IN the moment, don't escape it - embrace it!

You have fun blogs. You deserve at least twice as many followers as you already have.

Crazy kids make a crazy life! I just have to share it all with you guys :)

That's so funny, I would have thought i'd been robbed. :) tricky kids and tricky leprechauns.

You've just gotta love kids. The question is do you let them on on how worried you were. Hope the stomache gets better. I've been having having bouts with stomach and G.I. track issues over the last few weeks (not certain what it is about). Happy running and fun racing.

Oh Rachel, that story is AWESOME!!! I seriously hope you have written it in a journal or at least printed a copy of your blog today!!! Can't help but smile thinking about it now!!

I have no idea if this will work for you, but about 60% of the time (give or take) when my tummy gives me problems during a run I can fix it with some Activa yogurt. Sometimes it is just a matter of balancing the right amounts and kind of bacteria in your GI tract.

Hope to see you in SG! :)

From RAD on Thu, Mar 17, 2011 at 18:32:37 from 67.172.229.125

Merri, the only thing that stopped me from thinking that was the dog and that nothing was gone (not even the gold coins/chocolate on the table, which was another sign to me that one of MY kids wouldn't have done it for 'fun').

Chad, I did tell my daughter that if she wants to do that, she needs to tell me because I was worried for HER! Then I just laugh, whether or not it was the reaction intended, she DID get us good!

Teena, oh I think this is one for the books as well! Unfortunately it wasn't GI issues, but just nausea. Almost kind of like 'puke pace' feeling, because when I would stop running it would go away. I guess my body just really didn't want to run this morning! I'm doing fine now, so hopefully this has passed and I don't have to deal with it again. You'll be at Spectrum? YAY! Are you planning on running afterward? I'd like to get a total of at least 15 in on Saturday and sure would like some company.

Any one else looking to run MORE after spectrum on Saturday? Or anyone staying near the convention center that I could hop a ride with? Then I could just run back to the hotel (finish is 10 miles from my hotel).

From Teena Marie on Thu, Mar 17, 2011 at 18:43:24 from 67.2.94.242

Rachel~

I will totally run with you after Spectrum!!! But, I want to wait and watch Ry come in first. Is that okay?

Brooke is also planning on running a few extra miles (I think).

From Smooth on Thu, Mar 17, 2011 at 18:52:31 from 67.2.103.237

That is the funniest St Paddy's Day story! Lauren got you good this time! Got to love kids! :)

Sorry you were feeling pukey w/o the puke pace to show for! ;0)

Wish I was running Spectrum. I LOVE that race!

From glidergirl on Thu, Mar 17, 2011 at 19:45:16 from 155.97.238.134

That is so funny! What cute kids! That's too bad you've felt a little crappy this week. Rest up good for Saturday!

Yes, I need to run afterwards for sure. I think I'll do 2 before the race to get the achilles warmed up and then I want to do 4 or so after. If the achilles feels good I'll do 6 total afterwards. How many do you guys want to do? I will probably be done in 50-55 minutes, what time will Ry be done do you think Teena? Maybe we can all meet at a certain time, that way anyone who wants to start running can do so and then just come back to keep running with those of us (or just me) that will be done later. Like at 10am or so?

From glidergirl on Thu, Mar 17, 2011 at 19:47:34 from 155.97.238.134

However, I need to run at about 9:00-9:30 pace and maybe stop a few times, so I may just run on my own so I don't feel tempted to run faster with everyone! =0)

From Nancy on Thu, Mar 17, 2011 at 20:48:33 from 76.27.19.206

You are a real trooper running that far even when you feel like barfing.

From Teena Marie on Thu, Mar 17, 2011 at 21:10:20 from 67.2.94.242

Brooke~

We will just have finished a 10K where we are pushing ourselves. I am going to run my extra miles SLOWLY! 9:30 to 10:00 pace sounds GREAT to me.

AND ... I think you and Ry will be finishing right about the same time! :)

From RAD on Thu, Mar 17, 2011 at 22:17:23 from 67.172.229.125

Teena and Brooke, I would LOVE to run with both of you, and Brooke I don't think you need to worry about running slow. That is like my normal pace! I'm sure Teena will finish before me, so I will try to find her in the few minutes before Brooke and Ry come tearing through the finish. We can all recover a bit then take off for a few more. I'd like to do about 15 for the day, but I can 'circle' around as needed afterward.

Smooth, I will miss you at the race! I am a little bummed that I had the pukes with no good pace to show for it!

Nancy, It came and went the first 4 miles, but I had to cut it short for the last bit. Lucy didn't seem too upset.

RAD- I can't wait to see what mischief your kids pull out of their pockets on April Fools Day! I may have to call them with some good ideas....nah..they're already experts! I never would have imagined it was them.

What a fun memory (minus the "pukee") ;-)

Rachel,

Now you are being silly. I think you and I have the same goal for Spectrum. I will be thrilled with a sub 45 and absolutely ecstatic for something close to 44. Plus, I saw your run the other day. No way could I have pulled that off.

I am PMing you my cell so that we can text regarding plans in SG. :)

One last thing, I take back what I said about Ry and Brooke finishing close together. I think Brooke will beat him! I love him, but Brooke is faster! :)
