Short-Term Running Goals:

Okay, so for 2013 I am going to have FUN! Not that running isn't always fun, but I had a wonderful breakthrough year last year and I want to play this year :) AND get faster! So, my first goal I'm going to put out there is my yearly mileage goal.
It is 2,186 miles from my driveway to my sister (QP's) driveway! I want to spend this year on a virtual trek cross country running those miles. So, that is how far I will run in 2013...from my house to QPs. It will take all year and yes, this is measured on Hwys so it isn't really exactly how I COULD run it, but good enough. 43 miles/week...totally doable, and a fun goal to track how far I've traveled as I go along. Who knows...maybe I'll even run PAST her house :)

I will do more trail runs, Boston, Pacing duties, another Half IM and some other tris. I'm excited for this next year and look forward to having fun with all of you out on the roads, and trails! Maybe bag a few peaks this year too!!

Long-Term Running Goals:

Big Dreams: 5K in 20:2X; 10K in 39:XX; Half in 1:29:XX; Full in 3:15:XX; complete the Rim2Rim2Rim run and not die; Comrades; Iron(wo)Man.

Run for the rest of my life!

Personal:

4 children: twelve, eight, five and baby Fartlek - 2 1/2. Wonderful supportive husband that lets me drag him and the family all over for race after race!

Finished 13 marathons and LOVE running that distance! I'm definitely hooked to the marathon monster and hope to constantly improve my endurance, speed and stay injury free!

I've also found a love of trail running! I hope to keep improving on this front.

After being injured with a broken foot at the first of 2012 I found a tri group and started training with them and am now loving tris! The half IM was harder than I'd ever imagined...and am ready to do it again. I'll earn my bike butt and someday have enough time to train for a full IM.

Did the early work out with BBK's to get in a few extra and finished with 10! Yea, I feel good about the miles and a few of them were pushing under 8 min miles. I got my Garmin yesterday and didn't have it set to see my mile splits, but the AP was 8.48 min miles, which for having the first 4 or so around 9:30 pace I feel good about it! I'm now getting excited about Ogden and pushing myself to get 'er done. A little secret: When I was in college about 8 yrs ago a girl in my class was training for a marathon and I idolized her and thought (in my head only, never spoken) that I would/could run a marathon before I was thirty. Well, here I am I'll be 29 and am really living a goal I once wouldn't speak out loud. That really honestly doesn't happen to me. I'm ready to get training, I'm already planning on how to run while on my cruise for 2 weeks! I did Yoga after running and I don't feel nearly as tight or sore now either. I'm so up on my miles (Goal was 40 this week and with the 14 on Sat I'll be OVER that :) ) I think I'll take the day off tomorrow and spin with resistance training. I LOVE TO RUN!!!!

Great job this morning. I like your enthusiasm about running. Despite my ups and downs, injuries and other issues, I love to run also. I've tried other activities, and I always come back to running. I'm glad you come and run with the group!

You are doing so great Rachel. You are skinny (after a ton of hard work---you go girl!) and you run like there is no tomorrow (and you love it) and you are so happy all of the time, and you are great! Your marathon will be awesome! I am going to have to stop talking to people and inviting them to the BBK group. Everyone I invite starts kicking my butt!! You waste me on the darn treadmill everyday. But, I love you anyway!

Funny thing, I spoke my marathon wish out loud, but laughed at it, then did it 3 months later. When i spoke it, I had not intention of doing it any time soon, but it happened! Now, I need my 50k!

Rachel, YOU ROCK!!! Great job on your run today. Yes, you're gonna reach your goal. Keep training and keep up that positive attitude of yours. Are you going on a cruise? I'm jealous. Are you still running Myrtle Beach in Feb?

From Rachel on Thu, Jan 29, 2009 at 18:48:58

Yep, Myrtle on Feb 14 and my sister is so happy she got 1.5 miles before her groin pain started bothering her so she might keep up with me :) (that is VERY sarcastic, especially if you knew my sister - shes a machine!).

Cruise is a 12 day Mediterranian (sp?) in March we're gone 6-20. We go to Rome, Athens, Turkey, Cairo, and Malta. Happy 10th to us! The boat has TONS of treadmills in front of picture windows and a running track thats only 5 to a mile. Should be successful! I'll at least get some water running and cross training as well. This is no buffet cruise for me! I'm running as many miles as the boat travels days we're at sea :)

Rachel,

It is so exciting to hear you talk about an upcoming marathon. You are definitely ready to take on that kind of challenge. You are very prepared and taking the right steps. I think the hardest part about training for a marathon is believing that you can take on such a challenge. I know you can do it and you have a lot of fans in your corner cheering for you.
