Short-Term Running Goals:

Okay, so for 2013 I am going to have FUN! Not that running isn't always fun, but I had a wonderful breakthrough year last year and I want to play this year :) AND get faster! So, my first goal I'm going to put out there is my yearly mileage goal.
It is 2,186 miles from my driveway to my sister (QP's) driveway! I want to spend this year on a virtual trek cross country running those miles. So, that is how far I will run in 2013...from my house to QPs. It will take all year and yes, this is measured on Hwys so it isn't really exactly how I COULD run it, but good enough. 43 miles/week...totally doable, and a fun goal to track how far I've traveled as I go along. Who knows...maybe I'll even run PAST her house :)

I will do more trail runs, Boston, Pacing duties, another Half IM and some other tris. I'm excited for this next year and look forward to having fun with all of you out on the roads, and trails! Maybe bag a few peaks this year too!!

Long-Term Running Goals:

Big Dreams: 5K in 20:2X; 10K in 39:XX; Half in 1:29:XX; Full in 3:15:XX; complete the Rim2Rim2Rim run and not die; Comrades; Iron(wo)Man.

Run for the rest of my life!

Personal:

4 children: twelve, eight, five and baby Fartlek - 2 1/2. Wonderful supportive husband that lets me drag him and the family all over for race after race!

Finished 13 marathons and LOVE running that distance! I'm definitely hooked to the marathon monster and hope to constantly improve my endurance, speed and stay injury free!

I've also found a love of trail running! I hope to keep improving on this front.

After being injured with a broken foot at the first of 2012 I found a tri group and started training with them and am now loving tris! The half IM was harder than I'd ever imagined...and am ready to do it again. I'll earn my bike butt and someday have enough time to train for a full IM.

Got up for BBK's this morning *yawn* - when I went to leave my sweet little girl was in her room whimpering. She said she had felt sick all night! When do they get too old to come in your room at night and tell you they don't feel good and let you help them? Made me feel like I'd failed at being a mother if my poor sick 9 yr old couldn't come tell me she was sick :( Got her some tylenol and took off. (She is feeling much better now, so we'll send her off to school to share all those fun germs with her class - gotta love school!)

Started out WAY slow this morning, plus the first mile is all uphill - yuck! Finally around 3.5-4 miles I started feeling better - what else is new, huh? We (those slower paced BBKers) did just one 5K loop, and then a couple parking lot loops @ a mile each. I figured I should be tapering a bit for Saturday, so I was game to do only 5 and not 6. We finished the same time the rest of the group finished their 2 - 5K loops. Yup, I'm slow!

AP: 9:37 splits: 9:59, 9:32, 9:15, 9:38, 9:39, 8:00 (for the last 20 feet over 5 miles - hehehe, had to throw that in when I saw it!).

Now I'm off to yoga and to make sure my daughter isn't going to crash at burn at school when the meds wear off. I hate it when they want to go to school and I feel hesitant to send them!! I'm volunteering in Kindergarten at 10:30, so I'll check on her when I'm done and make sure she doesn't need to come home. I'm now just hoping I don't get whatever she's got!!

Next run: SLC 1/2 marathon!!

Ah, the travails of a being a runner and a mom. It's a tough balancing act.

BTW, you're not slow.

From Julie on Thu, Apr 15, 2010 at 11:13:51 from 174.23.54.16

I hope your daughter is feeling better.

I agree. You're not slow. I'm impressed at how well you're still running. Good luck on Saturday.

When you post 7 month pregnancy paces like that, and then complain about how slow you are....it makes me feel like I need a good excuse to run that same pace.

I'm not pregnant, so my reason for running that speed is..........?????????

I've got nothing. You're just a great runner who is hauling around a bundle of love.... I'm glad you're feeling good enough to run the slc 1/2 on Saturday. Enjoy the run. Looking forward to hearing about all the comments on your shirt.

You

Carolyn, yes it is! However, I think you do a much better job at it than I do!!

Julie, she is still feeling better, thanks. It was good to see you for a minute today!

QP, Saturday will be fun - one way or another!! :) I took the shirt to show some people at the gym today, and I got lots of good laughs, I can't wait to see how many chuckles I get as people pass me on Saturday. I'm thinking about starting at the front, with the elites - so I can brighten everyone's day :) hehehe (that'll probably go over like a turd in a pool!!)

Okay, I'm going to clarify my 'slow' statement. I know it's decent/great for where I'm at, but you have to know that when I'm running those paces sometimes my breathing and legs feel like I'm running a 6:40mm! I seriously thought my paces today would be closer to a 9mm average with the effort, so when I get home and see it at 9:40 I feel defeated. With all that said, by mile 4 I feel the best I usually feel all day - it's just getting into the rhythm and getting these 1/2 size lungs working with me.

So thanks for the reassurances, I'm grateful to just be running ANY pace after this winter - it's just hard to watch everyone else's tempos and sprints and KNOW in my heart of hearts that running an 8mm for a whole mile just might kill me!! That's what makes me think/feel like I'm slow.

Have fun at your race:) You should write on your back "if you can read this you are getting beat by a pregnant lady".

From RAD on Thu, Apr 15, 2010 at 16:13:13 from 67.172.229.125

Josse, I actually did have a shirt made :) On the back it says "if it looks like I'm having fun, I'm not - the fun part was 7 months ago!" then the front has a 'belly quote' that says "Help! I'm running out of womb." I'm hoping to get some good fun comments along the route :)

I LOVE your shirt! I can't wait to see the pics!!! You're going to do great!

Give me a call tonight....

From RAD on Thu, Apr 15, 2010 at 17:49:58 from 67.172.229.125

KP, I may have to post pics of just the shirt :) Remember, I don't look pregnant...just fat!

Slick, I will! I'm such a bum for dogging you the last couple nights - sorry!!

From Michelle on Thu, Apr 15, 2010 at 19:04:20 from 75.162.203.161

I understand the feeling of putting in so much effort to run what you consider a "slow" pace. Once your baby is born, you will probably be so much faster and stronger because of it.

From LuzyLew on Thu, Apr 15, 2010 at 20:07:28 from 208.187.197.42

Wash your hands a lot after school! Hope your sweetie is feeling better. It's a bad time of year for strep, flu, and everything else. You're running on the other hand is going so well. Good luck this Sat!

From allie on Thu, Apr 15, 2010 at 20:31:45 from 67.177.0.102

love the shirt quotes! have tons of fun on saturday. looks like it will be perfect weather.

From RAD on Thu, Apr 15, 2010 at 20:43:00 from 67.172.229.125

Michelle, it's nice to have a few that can commiserate with the 'slow' factor. I think most of it is the extra weight we're not used to carrying around.

Luz, oh she is quarantined in her room and I'm a washin'! Thanks, and good luck to you - can't wait to read your report!

Allie, thanks! I'm SO glad the weather is good - I've turned into a pansy over the winter :)

From Nancy on Thu, Apr 15, 2010 at 21:34:52 from 76.27.19.206

Rachel it was good to see you. Hope your daughter feels better. Thanks for running slow with me. Good Luck on your 1/2 marathon.

Thanks Nancy! It's always nice to run with you!
