Short-Term Running Goals:

Okay, so for 2013 I am going to have FUN! Not that running isn't always fun, but I had a wonderful breakthrough year last year and I want to play this year :) AND get faster! So, my first goal I'm going to put out there is my yearly mileage goal.
It is 2,186 miles from my driveway to my sister (QP's) driveway! I want to spend this year on a virtual trek cross country running those miles. So, that is how far I will run in 2013...from my house to QPs. It will take all year and yes, this is measured on Hwys so it isn't really exactly how I COULD run it, but good enough. 43 miles/week...totally doable, and a fun goal to track how far I've traveled as I go along. Who knows...maybe I'll even run PAST her house :)

I will do more trail runs, Boston, Pacing duties, another Half IM and some other tris. I'm excited for this next year and look forward to having fun with all of you out on the roads, and trails! Maybe bag a few peaks this year too!!

Long-Term Running Goals:

Big Dreams: 5K in 20:2X; 10K in 39:XX; Half in 1:29:XX; Full in 3:15:XX; complete the Rim2Rim2Rim run and not die; Comrades; Iron(wo)Man.

Run for the rest of my life!

Personal:

4 children: twelve, eight, five and baby Fartlek - 2 1/2. Wonderful supportive husband that lets me drag him and the family all over for race after race!

Finished 13 marathons and LOVE running that distance! I'm definitely hooked to the marathon monster and hope to constantly improve my endurance, speed and stay injury free!

I've also found a love of trail running! I hope to keep improving on this front.

After being injured with a broken foot at the first of 2012 I found a tri group and started training with them and am now loving tris! The half IM was harder than I'd ever imagined...and am ready to do it again. I'll earn my bike butt and someday have enough time to train for a full IM.

Holy Moly chuck a rolly! I knew Becca wanted to run 20 miles earlier in the week, but as the week drew on I kept trying to think of ways and reasons to back out of it - well, at least 3 or 4 miles of it. However, when push came to shove I just did it.

I had a really rough day (emotionally) Friday and baby was up nearly every hour all night and I must've subconsciously  decided I wasn't going early in the morning, but Becca has Adam to thank (he IS the best running partner) for waking me just 3 minutes past the time my alarm was supposed to go off (I hadn't turned it on) so that I could get up and out the door.

We met at 6:30 at the Olympic oval and decided it was time to get dizzy! Since I had given Maurine her counter back and not bought my own, I devised another creative counting system :) 11 pennies:  11 laps = 3 miles. So, we spent the next three hours passing pennies back and forth. I would pass to her 11 times (having a 2 man system helped if one of us forgot to pass) then she would pass them back (my hands still smell like dirty change!). Sixty-six laps later I was done...not sure I really wanted to do the last two miles, but it was only two...I could do it!

During the run, my R hip and L knee started telling me they weren't all that happy - running so many miles on a one way track will do that to you. So, we turned and were polite about it, but ran against traffic to 'unwind'. BLAH! There was some guy yelling at us each time we passed about the fact it was "against rule #7 to run the wrong way!" We finally felt guilty enough for breaking the rules that we turned and went the right way. Well, after crazy guy left (there were other runners that said "he yelled at us too!") we again ran against traffic again and it felt SO good! Then, we began to have a following - many others joined our 'wrong way' crowd. It was nice to be the trend-setter.

I took and needed TWO gu's this run (mile 9 and 15). I think more than anything I'm just mentally exhausted. My HR was fine and so was my breathing, but at what I think was about an 8:50ish AP my legs just wanted to die and I wanted to quit. I really just wasn't in 'the groove' this run. Each time I took a gu it helped rejuvenate me a little bit.

Well, the last 2 miles (I was SO happy to drop 4 pennies at the bleachers and only take 7 with me!!) Steve Ash and Tim joined us. It was nice to meet Steve and chat a bit (I again got to complain about 'barbie' gym - I'm a great whiner!) and he was kind enough to run slow with me and Becca and Tim took off and finished about 20 seconds or so before Steve and I did. Honestly, those last 2 miles went SO much faster than I thought they would. Becca literally had to PUSH me to get me going those last miles.

Now that it is all said and done with I'm glad I did it and that I didn't wimp out and take a smaller mileage total. Becca was doing SO well, I wouldn't be surprised if she ran a few more after I left :) I am VERY grateful I had Becca to drag me out this morning and to push me through the 11 cent run, I needed it today - oh so very badly! Thank You Becca! I also had a great time chatting with Steve, made me feel a lot better about my sad slow mileage - Thanks Steve!!

Very impressive mileage and well done! I have had many of those "really dont want to go long-mile Saturdays" (actually I think thats about 90% of them for me) and its only because of Luz that I ever get them done. Enjoy the rest of your weekend--awesome work!

Well done... I don't think I would have been able to do to that on a track. I am impressed though. Esp with the night that Becca had. You guys are something else. My hat's off :)

Cath, I'm usually really excited for my long runs - especially if I have company, it was just a good topper to a great week! :/ I will, however, enjoy the rest of the weekend!

David, no kidding! I thought I had something to complain about until I heard that story! Yup, like usual, I'll take my silly trials and enjoy them.

I like your counting system. I ran 20 miles on an indoor track once a couple of years ago and I used my garmin to count laps even though it didn't get a signal inside the building. I might have miscounted still.

You certainly have the mileage and I doubt that it's slow and sad.

Way to grind out 20 miles. It can be tough running on a track like that, so I give you props for pushing through. Nice.

Great job Rachel. What a smart way to keep track.

You're amazing that you can run 20 miles after a day/night like that! I wish I would have come to the track instead of "trying" to run outside this morning!

50+ miles this week Rachel...NICE! Way to get it done and do it well! Hooray for you!

Carolyn, it was quite effective! Laps I would forget Becca would have her hand out waiting or vice versa.

Scott, the worst was just the one-way. It honestly felt like heaven to 'unwind'

Nancy, Thanks as always!

Carina, we kept looking longingly outside thinking we made the wrong choice, but since I had a time limit I couldn't afford a 'weather delay' - However, now that it's done I'm glad I didn't go outside.

Toby, thanks. It felt good...Sunday :)

Brent, I'm hoping! Looking forward to a good racing season in the full this year - that is my focus. Well, and just staying healthy - NO injuries!

From Calvin on Mon, Feb 28, 2011 at 19:01:32 from 66.133.117.3

that almost sounds more monotonous than running 20 on a treadmill! whatever it takes though, right? nice job!
