Short-Term Running Goals:

Okay, so for 2013 I am going to have FUN! Not that running isn't always fun, but I had a wonderful breakthrough year last year and I want to play this year :) AND get faster! So, my first goal I'm going to put out there is my yearly mileage goal.
It is 2,186 miles from my driveway to my sister (QP's) driveway! I want to spend this year on a virtual trek cross country running those miles. So, that is how far I will run in 2013...from my house to QPs. It will take all year and yes, this is measured on Hwys so it isn't really exactly how I COULD run it, but good enough. 43 miles/week...totally doable, and a fun goal to track how far I've traveled as I go along. Who knows...maybe I'll even run PAST her house :)

I will do more trail runs, Boston, Pacing duties, another Half IM and some other tris. I'm excited for this next year and look forward to having fun with all of you out on the roads, and trails! Maybe bag a few peaks this year too!!

Long-Term Running Goals:

Big Dreams: 5K in 20:2X; 10K in 39:XX; Half in 1:29:XX; Full in 3:15:XX; complete the Rim2Rim2Rim run and not die; Comrades; Iron(wo)Man.

Run for the rest of my life!

Personal:

4 children: twelve, eight, five and baby Fartlek - 2 1/2. Wonderful supportive husband that lets me drag him and the family all over for race after race!

Finished 13 marathons and LOVE running that distance! I'm definitely hooked to the marathon monster and hope to constantly improve my endurance, speed and stay injury free!

I've also found a love of trail running! I hope to keep improving on this front.

After being injured with a broken foot at the first of 2012 I found a tri group and started training with them and am now loving tris! The half IM was harder than I'd ever imagined...and am ready to do it again. I'll earn my bike butt and someday have enough time to train for a full IM.

I did NOT want to get up this morning, I did NOT want to do anything this morning, I just wanted to sleep, sleep and sleep. I'm still tired and have sore muscles from the race and I'm just tired. BUT I knew Sandra would be coming and I was too lazy (and I have my pride too) to go downstairs to get my phone to text her and say I didn't want to run. I think it only took me 15 minutes to put my shoes on. Didn't leave enough time to brush my teeth before running either, which I regretted when I was done! Cottonmouth from running on top of morning mouth is a double disaster! (I hope I'm not the only one who occasionally has to skip teeth brushing before runs to get out the door on time)

Sandra really is getting stronger each run and I'm impressed with how well she is doing! Our AP for the 4.1 miles was 9:40 and the 2 uphill miles were just seconds over 10 which is a wonderful improvement and I think some of it was me sometimes dragging.

I wasn't sure I wanted to do anymore, but figured I need to stop being a pansy and learn how to do active recovery if I'm going to do the slam this year. So, I headed out for 3 more (Lucy's leash was at the neighbor's who watched her for us over the weekend, so she got left at home). When I was at about mile 2 I kept thinking about adding a bit on, but went back and forth. Well, I was still deciding as I ran past the last street to go home so I then figured I'd made my choice. I ended up adding on an extra 1.15 to round out the miles for the morning at 8.25.

AP: 8:57 splits: 9:12, 8:30, 8:52, 9:13, 8:43 (last .15) - I was happy to see that my hill of despair mile (4) was a low 9 pace. I still struggle with hills, but it's nice to see them getting easier and faster.

Came home, changed clothes and brushed my teeth :) then crawled in bed with my warming pillow (AKA my 3 year old son who had crawled into bed just before I left to run). I was SO flippin' cold this morning after my run - I just couldn't get warm! I finally heated up some rice bags and started moving again and finally felt tepid again (I refuse to say warm until it is 80+ outside!).

Got the little warming pillow off to pre-school and went to the church for boot camp. It was another good class, but definitely not as hard as the first one. She had us do a ton of running back and forth in the gym, so I tacked on an extra 1/4 mile for all of that. Plank walking around the perimeter of the gym was definitely my favorite activity today! BLECH!

Now we get to spend the afternoon at the doctors office. My sweet baby boy is 9 months old today...9 months! I can hardly believe it, time goes SO fast...and I'm still SO fat!

You are NOT fat!!! Just reading your runs and workout made me tired! You did MORE than just an active recovery. No mention of pain on the top of foot. So it must be better! Take care of your tired body, don't get so worn down that you ended up not able to take care all your bundles of joy and warming pillow! :)

Good getting out and running this morning. I like taper week... :)

From RAD on Tue, Mar 22, 2011 at 15:49:58 from 67.172.229.125

Smooth, I need to take off at least 15 pounds that I've been keeping on. Problem is I've been eating like a cow and loving it - not gaining or losing. So, I'm afraid to get back on a healthy bandwagon - I'll miss my junk habits :) Foot/ankle is doing better it is just achy like sore muscles. Once warmed up I don't hear from it at all. Worst thing is pointing the toes when I kneel for prayer. Energy is actually pretty high for the way my body aches, I can just tell I'm still in recovery mode.

Becca, ppppbbbbbttt! Right now I'd LIKE to be in taper week :) Especially the carb-loading part! Enjoy your vaca!

Have you ever thought of cycling or spinning every evening? It would boost metabolism and provide good active recovery without the impact. You know I was in Revolution Cycle this morning looking at road bikes Sshh..(I'm thinking about doing tris in the future:) and I remembered how my best half marathon at Hobble came off of a period of cycling in addition to all the running I was putting in.

From RAD on Tue, Mar 22, 2011 at 16:05:54 from 67.172.229.125

Steve, I spin on Fridays, but evenings are SO full just getting kids settled and homework/dinner/bedtime done. I'm not a good evening worker-outer. However, if I had a nice spin bike at home.... :)

I do think that spin is THE best x-training and I'm fully convinced it cured my ITBS as well. Maybe now with the rec center closer I could do an evening spin as well. I'll have to check into it! Good luck with the purchase, I'd LOVE LOVE LOVE to get a nice road bike, but children suck all my funds out of me!

Um yeah.. I know what you mean. I haven't figured the money part out yet:(

I didn't realize you were heading \for the slam. A word of advice...get some good absorbable iron on hand now (I suggest Floridix). YOu are going to need it. The weight will come off once you stop nursing. And you will not be as hungry. Once you aren't as hungry and stop eating as much....plus running that many miles, I can guarantee is going to make you as it did me and everyone else I've ever met who did the slam or multiple back to backs--severely anemic.

Nice run and boot camp too. You really are an exercise machine. Before you know it you will be sending your baby to school and then before you know it they will be married and you will be a grandma like me.

Happy 9 month birthday!!! He is getting so big, I miss seeing him!

Who does the Boot Camp at your church? Sounds FUN.

From RAD on Wed, Mar 23, 2011 at 01:15:53 from 67.172.229.125

Steve, when you find that money tree let me know and I'll take a starter! :)

Luz, EXCELLENT advice! I am starting vitamin and omega supplements (more than just my multi and calcium I do now) this month and I'm sure my lack of red meat consumption will more than put me at risk for anemia. Baby cows are just too cute! :)

Where do you get floridix and how much do you take? Maybe you need to send me some info on this...

Nancy, Oh man! I hope I can live out every day to it's fullest! Time really does go by SO quickly!!

Kelli, I'll have to put up some pictures. He is just a cute little ham these days! A lady in my ward does the boot camp, she does a copy of what she does the day before at a class she pays for. She is a dance teacher (has her own studio in Riverton) and so she is used to teaching 'classes' and does a pretty good job at it! She always brings some sort of torture device - water softener salt bags, kettle balls.... If you ever want to come just text me and I'll make sure you end up in the right place - 9AM, bring Emma - the kids just run around the gym.

Here's the deal: If you say you're fat one more time, I'm going to send your blog link to the "panda bear." Don't make me do it.

You can say you might want to lose a pound or two, or you might want to eat at rodezio for a week and gain 20, but you can NOT say that you are fat. Period.

It's great how you're helping Sandra and conquering those ugly hills. I know she's going to be a strong runner with such a great coach!

From Carolyn in Colorado on Wed, Mar 23, 2011 at 12:50:44 from 71.229.134.155

You are really getting strong on the hills. And I'm sure you're not fat.

From Kelli on Wed, Mar 23, 2011 at 13:27:33 from 71.219.97.85

SALT BAGS? SOunds fun!

From Brent on Wed, Mar 23, 2011 at 14:31:16 from 66.7.127.67

Devine, have your brushed your teeth today. One comment about workouts when your sore from a race, injury can happen on those runs, easy does it. I am with Air Dark Horse, spinning is what keeps me running, albeit slow. Spinning out your legs, good advice.

QP, okay, okay just don't send the panda here!! I will rephrase: "I would like to lose these last 15 pounds of baby weight before too long." Better? :) Just too much mac and cheese I guess.

Carolyn, The hills still feel like too much work for the pace, but I'm getting there - slowly but surely!

Kelli, Next week I will text you on Mon night or Tuesday AM and you can come to torture yourself if you're up for some x-training on super sore muscles :) Or, you can wait a couple weeks.

Brent, I have been trying to mentally overcome the need to run and listen to my body, but sometimes it is hard. I do love spin class! I wish they had them at better times for me through the week. I think the interval training on spin bikes is helping with my turnover as well. Oh, and yup! teeth brushed before I headed out today :)

From LuzyLew on Wed, Mar 23, 2011 at 17:59:56 from 208.187.197.42

http://www.floradix.net/ We all use the liquid. I use it in combination with chlorophyll in case what they say about chlorophyll helping the body better absorb the iron is true. I've been feeling a lot better since taking it twice a day. The body can only absorb 10 ml of iron at a time so you have to take it twic a day if you are anemic like I have been.
