Short-Term Running Goals:

Okay, so for 2013 I am going to have FUN! Not that running isn't always fun, but I had a wonderful breakthrough year last year and I want to play this year :) AND get faster! So, my first goal I'm going to put out there is my yearly mileage goal.
It is 2,186 miles from my driveway to my sister (QP's) driveway! I want to spend this year on a virtual trek cross country running those miles. So, that is how far I will run in 2013...from my house to QPs. It will take all year and yes, this is measured on Hwys so it isn't really exactly how I COULD run it, but good enough. 43 miles/week...totally doable, and a fun goal to track how far I've traveled as I go along. Who knows...maybe I'll even run PAST her house :)

I will do more trail runs, Boston, Pacing duties, another Half IM and some other tris. I'm excited for this next year and look forward to having fun with all of you out on the roads, and trails! Maybe bag a few peaks this year too!!

Long-Term Running Goals:

Big Dreams: 5K in 20:2X; 10K in 39:XX; Half in 1:29:XX; Full in 3:15:XX; complete the Rim2Rim2Rim run and not die; Comrades; Iron(wo)Man.

Run for the rest of my life!

Personal:

4 children: twelve, eight, five and baby Fartlek - 2 1/2. Wonderful supportive husband that lets me drag him and the family all over for race after race!

Finished 13 marathons and LOVE running that distance! I'm definitely hooked to the marathon monster and hope to constantly improve my endurance, speed and stay injury free!

I've also found a love of trail running! I hope to keep improving on this front.

After being injured with a broken foot at the first of 2012 I found a tri group and started training with them and am now loving tris! The half IM was harder than I'd ever imagined...and am ready to do it again. I'll earn my bike butt and someday have enough time to train for a full IM.

I have a new found respect for those of you that get up early (4:30-5) day after day! These 2 days in a row have nearly killed me! It doesn't help that I don't  get to bed before 10:30, even when I try.

BBK day at the hills from h--- location. I was already whining as we started warm-up, about .75 in we started up one of the hills "why?" I muttered from the back. Nice, slow warm-up and I didn't even think about pushing those hills :)

We met the rest of the group at 5:45 - then it was off to the big hills. Last night I envisioned myself pushing these and keeping up with the lead pack, I know I've got speed in these legs - somedays I just need to find it! However, my positive mental attitude was gone, today was my day to whine! At the back of the group I trudged along feeling like I was going to die. Thankfully, we only did one 1 mile hill repeat.

Next we went to the parkway trail. Plan was 10 min comfortably hard then push for 5 min, since no pace was attached I just went by feel. Again, I was bringing up the rear... We regrouped and then did a 'chase and be chased' group. The chasers went 1 minute the opposite direction so we essentially had a 2 minute head start. I was now bound and determined NOT to get passed. I was still the back of the be chased group, but I wasn't letting the leaders pull away. My 15 minutes were up for the way back, then I heard a watch beep behind me!! nuh uh!!! I wasn't going to get passed with just .15 or so to go! So, I started going faster..I could hear the footsteps coming closer...go, go, go - I glanced back it was Scott. No way, not today! I sprinted him to the end (MAN is that guy speedy!!!) and my crazy arms got him, somewhere - I think it may have been an elbow to the head (I can use the fact that I slowed to apologize as an excuse :) ). I'm not sure I can say I didn't get passed, because I think it was a tie...so it was close, the skin of my teeth!! However, I didn't get passed!

Then we did one more 1 mile hill repeat for 'cool-down'. I was pleased that my 10 mile hit just as we got to the parking lot - No extra to make it even today!

AP: 8:37 splits: (warm-up) 9:55, 9:19, 9:34 (hill) 8:50 (15 min tempos) 8:13, 7:57, 7:56, 7:54 (cool-down) 8:13, 8:25 - the first 1/2 of the 8:13 was the end of the tempos.

Short 15 min nap while kids showered, off to school then to the gym for personal training. 45 minutes of torture (not NEARLY as bad as last week) then 30 min/9 miles on the bike to cool-down and use up nursery time. Now I'm looking for a nap!

Some of us are better at the "early bird" thing than others, kudos to you for making it two in a row!!

You were awesome today. I did not hear any "whining" from the RAD section like you were saying. Yeah, and you toatally beat Scott by at least 15 seconds in my book! By the way, I think that I am going to do a 55 miler next week, do you want to join me? That will be our training run for the marathon! HAHA! I was thinking about what you said after you left this morning.

Sure...I think I could do it. Why not? I've run 26 before so lets just double it! :)

You're an animal! AWESOME workout w/ the BBK a day after winning your AG in a fast 10K where you ran IN FRONT of Walter! :)

ARE you serious about 55? Aren't you girls supposed to be tapering?

From Carolyn in Colorado on Tue, Sep 08, 2009 at 17:36:13 from 198.241.174.15

I was wondering what you would do with the BBKs today since you had a race yesterday. I should have known you would go all out and would not take it easy.

I may get up early every day, but I am not the crazy workout animal that you are. I get up early, and then take it easy.

Smooth, I am so NOT serious about the 55!!! Funny story: my SIL that ran her 1st 1/2 3 weeks ago (Provo River) thinks she's ready to run TOU full with me. Kind of a slap in the face if you ask me, I kind of wonder if she's really that naive or just wants to one-up me that bad. (oh, and that was her longest run to date AND since then she's only run 3 times, one eight miler).

Carolyn, I SO have a new respect for you! I couldn't get up even at 6 everyday!!! Nursery is the only reason I keep going to the gym somedays!

I am sure if you elbowed Scott it was in the head, he is a wee bit short! But he did not call me and curse your name, so it must have been no big deal. Can you believe with a two minute lead on him he was able to catch up??? He makes me sick.

Hope you got that nap in, I had so much crap to do I really wanted one today. But, nope. Preschool starts tomorrow afternoon and THEN I can take a nap.

Great job Rachel. Way to beat Scott!!
