Short-Term Running Goals:

Okay, so for 2013 I am going to have FUN! Not that running isn't always fun, but I had a wonderful breakthrough year last year and I want to play this year :) AND get faster! So, my first goal I'm going to put out there is my yearly mileage goal.
It is 2,186 miles from my driveway to my sister (QP's) driveway! I want to spend this year on a virtual trek cross country running those miles. So, that is how far I will run in 2013...from my house to QPs. It will take all year and yes, this is measured on Hwys so it isn't really exactly how I COULD run it, but good enough. 43 miles/week...totally doable, and a fun goal to track how far I've traveled as I go along. Who knows...maybe I'll even run PAST her house :)

I will do more trail runs, Boston, Pacing duties, another Half IM and some other tris. I'm excited for this next year and look forward to having fun with all of you out on the roads, and trails! Maybe bag a few peaks this year too!!

Long-Term Running Goals:

Big Dreams: 5K in 20:2X; 10K in 39:XX; Half in 1:29:XX; Full in 3:15:XX; complete the Rim2Rim2Rim run and not die; Comrades; Iron(wo)Man.

Run for the rest of my life!

Personal:

4 children: twelve, eight, five and baby Fartlek - 2 1/2. Wonderful supportive husband that lets me drag him and the family all over for race after race!

Finished 13 marathons and LOVE running that distance! I'm definitely hooked to the marathon monster and hope to constantly improve my endurance, speed and stay injury free!

I've also found a love of trail running! I hope to keep improving on this front.

After being injured with a broken foot at the first of 2012 I found a tri group and started training with them and am now loving tris! The half IM was harder than I'd ever imagined...and am ready to do it again. I'll earn my bike butt and someday have enough time to train for a full IM.

Midnight movie madness kept me up late, so I slept in, but the problem comes as what to do with 2 munchkins since I don't have time to get to the gym before meetings at 10:45. So, since the weather was marginal (better than it's been for a while, but still cold for almost JUNE!) I packed up the jogger and we were off.

The plan was to push the nearly 60+ pounds of stroller (and Lucy tagging along too) up to the top of the cove - just walking. This would give my hip time to warm up and not to mention a killer workout anyway! Then, if I was feeling good and ready for it I could chase (run with) the stroller down hill until I landed myself at the church about 3 miles later. Well, luckily things did work out that way...almost.

On the way home (just about a mile out) I ran into Kelli going the other way, it was nice to chat with her for a while. I miss my little gym! I got a phone call from the school as we parted ways and my almost 7 year old had another migrane and was in the nurses room. This complicated my time line and route. I now had to get HOME instead of to the church and I was going to be late for the meeting (I'd also packed all my crap I needed in the stroller, so I was pushing around a couple of unnecessary pounds now). Luckily everyone was running late and so it wasn't too inconvenient for me to run and grab my little dude and get him home and in bed before I ran (drove) off to the meeting.

I tell ya...always an adventure. I thought it would be good running downhill with the stroller, but dang! That thing is hard to chase and control going down those hills. I was more than grateful for the flat and rollers at the bottom of the Cove.

It was nice to get out and although I'm not back to my normal crazy running self, things are still feeling okay. It isn't getting worse and I would almost say slightly better. So, with this happening while still being able to run a few miles I'm gaining some confidence back about UVM. It certainly won't be the PR race I'd planned, but I think I will do okay - a finish is all I need anyway, right?

Any marathon finish is awesome! good job pushing the stroller. I've done it twice and it was HARD. I definitely prefer running w/o kids:)

Nice job Rachel. Pushing a stroller with two kids is quite a workout.

I couldn't believe how hard it was to control a stroller going down hill. I guess I'd always imagined it just pulling me along, but man it's a workout for sure!! nice work today and you are going to do great at UVM :)

Woah! Look at your picture! Can you dunk?

Running with a stroller is a killer workout! It is so hard for us moms with little ones to get out and get it done somedays! Good work today! :)

You are simply amazing!!! Pushing a 60 lbs plus stroller uphill, maneuvering it downhill while trying to make to school for your little boy and to church for meeting! I just don't know how you do it! Hope his migraine is gone, your hip is back to 100% and baby is completely happy and healthy! Hey, finishing a marathon is a major accomplishment in itself, you just ran a 3:58 marathon 10 days ago! PR at UVM will be icing on the cake, if not, no biggie, there's always SGM!!! :)

Sounds like an adventure ;)

I think you will be fine for UVM. Your training has been solid all year.

Stacie, yes, w/out kids is SO much easier! But I knew it would keep me honest in not killing my hip flexor with running too much as well. Sneaky way of forcing myself to rest :)

Nancy, thanks!

Carina, it doesn't help when you have a crappy, cheap, old stroller that pulls to the right as well! It was just nice to get out.

Burt, heck yes!

Steam, thanks. It is hard to juggle them - if you want to sleep in :)

Smooth, It was supposed to be a simple morning, but it just got complicated with the sick little dude. He throws up a few times and sleeps for a couple hours and then is fine. By 3:00 he was back to normal. Breaks my heart to see a little kid in so much pain! Yeah, UVM will be a finish - not sure I can hope for much more, but that in and of itself is an accomplishment I'll take!

Scott, thanks - I'm relying on my winter training since my training these past couple months has been less than stellar.
