Short-Term Running Goals:

Okay, so for 2013 I am going to have FUN! Not that running isn't always fun, but I had a wonderful breakthrough year last year and I want to play this year :) AND get faster! So, my first goal I'm going to put out there is my yearly mileage goal.
It is 2,186 miles from my driveway to my sister (QP's) driveway! I want to spend this year on a virtual trek cross country running those miles. So, that is how far I will run in 2013...from my house to QPs. It will take all year and yes, this is measured on Hwys so it isn't really exactly how I COULD run it, but good enough. 43 miles/week...totally doable, and a fun goal to track how far I've traveled as I go along. Who knows...maybe I'll even run PAST her house :)

I will do more trail runs, Boston, Pacing duties, another Half IM and some other tris. I'm excited for this next year and look forward to having fun with all of you out on the roads, and trails! Maybe bag a few peaks this year too!!

Long-Term Running Goals:

Big Dreams: 5K in 20:2X; 10K in 39:XX; Half in 1:29:XX; Full in 3:15:XX; complete the Rim2Rim2Rim run and not die; Comrades; Iron(wo)Man.

Run for the rest of my life!

Personal:

4 children: twelve, eight, five and baby Fartlek - 2 1/2. Wonderful supportive husband that lets me drag him and the family all over for race after race!

Finished 13 marathons and LOVE running that distance! I'm definitely hooked to the marathon monster and hope to constantly improve my endurance, speed and stay injury free!

I've also found a love of trail running! I hope to keep improving on this front.

After being injured with a broken foot at the first of 2012 I found a tri group and started training with them and am now loving tris! The half IM was harder than I'd ever imagined...and am ready to do it again. I'll earn my bike butt and someday have enough time to train for a full IM.

I typed it all in and then the computer kicked me off and I'm mad, so I'll type it later when I feel better. Great race, overcast cloudy but the rain stayed away. IT band bit me with a vengance (haven't felt it for 8 months or more!) at mile 8 and that next mile was PAINFUL! It did subside, and I was able to keep up my 8:05 pace. Yea! I'll RICE it this weekend. Lots of love, I feel good and 30 minutes after the race I got thinking I wanted to try again, because I didn't think I gave it all I could - I knew I could do better! Well I've got SLC 1/2 in April and we'll bust my PR again!!!

Yay Rachel! You totally rock! What an awesome time. You did soooo great! I'm so excited for you. I hope the IT feels better, it sucks to have something hurt during a race. I'm excited to see your times for your races this year! Way to go and I'll see you next week!

From Nancy on Sat, Feb 14, 2009 at 21:41:12

Great race Rachel. I haven't run a race that fast in my life. The fastest race I ran was a 5 mile race in Moab. I was in the port-a-potty when the race started as still ran it in 40 minutes. Boy was I tired at the end.

From Rachel on Sat, Feb 14, 2009 at 21:44:43

Thanks ladies! I do feel great about my time. I always think afterward when I recover that I could've done it faster - so thats what is going over in my head right now! There is SL in April, I was hoping to do 8 mm then, but maybe I'll aim for 7:50 AP - hmm, too lofty? We'll see how I feel then.

Devine Miss M - 500 commando points for the PR and being tough. Also, very, very, very, good PR, the rolling hills are not easy and take a toll. Side note, I know why the civil war lasted so long, the north and south troops could not see each other because of all the trees and rolling hills.

I am guessing from the first mile split that you got caught in the crowd at the start, nice consistent race, shows how strong you are getting.

Stay Kool, 1:45 this year is yours, B of BS Rools out

From Smooth on Sat, Feb 14, 2009 at 23:21:26

Rachel, WOW!!! That's an AWESOME race!!! Your splits were very consistent!!! CONGRATS on a GREAT performance and a NICE PR!!! YOU TOTALLY ROCK!!! Enjoy the victory. Hope you're celebrating big!

From Kelli on Sat, Feb 14, 2009 at 23:48:12

I am SO SO SO happy for you but not a BIT surprised!!! I knew you could do it that fast, I KNEW IT!!! I am guessing that you no longer are shooting for that 8:30 pace for SL half, that would be a jog in the park!

I can not wait until you get back so I can hear all about it! Have fun with your sister (how did she do?) and do tons of those nice hip openers, they will really help your IT band.

From Cal on Sun, Feb 15, 2009 at 01:06:40

Way to go Rachel! You've got to feel great about that time. I'm sure you'll have even faster races in the near future.

From Teena on Sun, Feb 15, 2009 at 10:08:40

Rachel,

Check out all of those sub 8 minute miles!! You were cruising!!

Congrats on a FANTASTIC race!

From twinkies on Sun, Feb 15, 2009 at 10:33:01

Great race. Way to persist through the pain.

I used to suffer from pain in both IT bands. The best advice I can give is stretch really good before each race and training run, and also increase the length of your long runs.

From Burt on Sun, Feb 15, 2009 at 15:34:50

Great job! Was this a big race? How many people?

From Rachel on Sun, Feb 15, 2009 at 20:40:27

Thanks again all! I have having a great weekend and today is my birthday, last year in the under 30 category-enjoy it while I can!

Brent - Thanks for the commando points, I hope to have the high score by the end of the year. Getting caught in the crowd is an understatement! It was horrible, there were SO many people you could harldy stride during the first couple miles. 1:45 ?!? I'm thinking 1:40 (SLC is all downhill :)

Smooth - thanks! that was the first thing I really noticed was that my splits were very consistant. That made me happy, because even when my knee gave me issues I still was able to run the same pace and not loose much time.

Kelli-Thanks! I didn't know if you could text or not, but I had to share the good news with someone that cared, but I also knew you were asleep. I would've called my husband but he was asleep too and he just doesn't appreciate taking a full minute mile off your average pace in a half marathon. If I can do that again in 6 months I might beat you :) I've already spent about 4 hours on the floor in pigeon and 3 hours icing. I'm so mad that it came back, I haven't felt it for like 8 months or more...UUGGGHHH!! I now want that surgery Nancy was talking about!

Cal-I'm hoping for faster results this year! Even an hour after the race I felt so good I knew I hadn't spent enough and wanted to try again, then I stood up and remembered why I couldn't...my poor knee wouldn't even straighten :(

Teena- with your hip and me getting faster I might be able to keep up with you for a few miles :) Thanks for the shout out and good luck with your 'repair' recovery.

Twinkies-thanks for the advice. I still stretch my IT band a little, but hadn't felt it for so long I had started ignoring too much I guess. Also, the roads were VERY arched I think that is what really did it too me. I'm working on training for Ogden full, so I'm trying to SLOWLY increase miles to pamper IT. I may have to scale back and go even slower, we'll see how it holds up this next week. Its already a ton better from some extra pampering this weekend.

Burt- there were 2823 (or close) finishers in the 1/2 - men and women and 223 finishers in my age group category. It was the biggest race I think I've ever run in!

From Cheryl on Mon, Feb 16, 2009 at 19:27:35

Rachel-- let me add another congratulations on a great run. That's quite a bit off of your previous best half, right? Way to go, with as young as you are, you'll only get faster and faster. And happy birthday, by the way!

From Smooth on Mon, Feb 16, 2009 at 22:10:46

Rachel, HAPPY belated birthday! you young one!!! Hope your IT band is behaving.

From kristel on Mon, Feb 16, 2009 at 23:18:05
