Short-Term Running Goals:

Okay, so for 2013 I am going to have FUN! Not that running isn't always fun, but I had a wonderful breakthrough year last year and I want to play this year :) AND get faster! So, my first goal I'm going to put out there is my yearly mileage goal.
It is 2,186 miles from my driveway to my sister (QP's) driveway! I want to spend this year on a virtual trek cross country running those miles. So, that is how far I will run in 2013...from my house to QPs. It will take all year and yes, this is measured on Hwys so it isn't really exactly how I COULD run it, but good enough. 43 miles/week...totally doable, and a fun goal to track how far I've traveled as I go along. Who knows...maybe I'll even run PAST her house :)

I will do more trail runs, Boston, Pacing duties, another Half IM and some other tris. I'm excited for this next year and look forward to having fun with all of you out on the roads, and trails! Maybe bag a few peaks this year too!!

Long-Term Running Goals:

Big Dreams: 5K in 20:2X; 10K in 39:XX; Half in 1:29:XX; Full in 3:15:XX; complete the Rim2Rim2Rim run and not die; Comrades; Iron(wo)Man.

Run for the rest of my life!

Personal:

4 children: twelve, eight, five and baby Fartlek - 2 1/2. Wonderful supportive husband that lets me drag him and the family all over for race after race!

Finished 13 marathons and LOVE running that distance! I'm definitely hooked to the marathon monster and hope to constantly improve my endurance, speed and stay injury free!

I've also found a love of trail running! I hope to keep improving on this front.

After being injured with a broken foot at the first of 2012 I found a tri group and started training with them and am now loving tris! The half IM was harder than I'd ever imagined...and am ready to do it again. I'll earn my bike butt and someday have enough time to train for a full IM.

No running this morning...it really was a mess of a night. Didn't get to bed until 11:30 due to party and fireworks, then my baby woke up at 4:30 screaming and crying and it took about an hour to get him back to bed. I think he was in pain. He'd gotten his big toe shut in the door (on the hinge side) and the door was completely closed with it in there earlier that evening. I gave him some tylenol and then it was just a matter of time before he went back to sleep. Poor kid!

So, I knew due to sore quads from the race I was going to pass on speed work with BBK's this morning, so I was planning on a loop by myself, but when the alarm went off I decided to bag it and sleep. First day of school for the 2 older kiddos - yay for year round school! Got them off and then bye-wing came and we did a nice bike ride on the road. I used the mtn bike with the baby seat on back and she got my new bike. We rode up to the reservoir (holy hills batman!) then the tri course to Butterfield Canyon and home - 15 miles, more uphill than expected, glad I did a trial run. Averaged about 12mph, and I figure with the first hills and the baby bike out of the factor on Saturday I should be able to do closer to 14-16 during the race....maybe, well, hopefully.

Grabbed the kids and then went to Club Hollywood (the gym) to swim. I love how fast bye-wing swims. She could do 12-13 laps to my 10! I'm just a lazy swimmer :) She then had us do some drills. I've never done stuff like that before in the water and I kind of liked it. Best part was I could swim faster than bye-wing on the speed work! Okay, so I had fins on, but still! Finished up a mile of swimming (32 laps, assuming this is a 25M pool and not 25 yds) and from my timing it looks like I swim about a 12min 500M in the pool, so I think Saturday I may get away with a 15 min swim time...maybe, well, hopefully.

When I picked the kids up from chuck-a-child at the gym my baby looked like he'd been mauled! Scratches ALL over his face and some pretty deep. I asked what happened and all I got were bewildered looks. NO ONE knew anything about it! What the heck?!? Really?!? c'mon people! I thought you were supposed to watch these kids. I know it is an inherent risk of dropping your kids off there, but I just assumed there would be adequate supervision and that the child responsible would be monitored...or they would at least let me know what happened. Oh man, I just need to stop. Anytime I look at my poor baby it just makes me mad. Toe smashed yesterday, face mauled today...and I get to take him to the doctor for a 'well child' visit tomorrow. Shall we just write up the DCFS report now? Sigh. Poor little guy :(

Anyway, I feel pretty good about Saturday, but any and all tri tips would be GREATLY appreciated! Transition areas, what to bring, how to set it all up...these are the things I'm mostly worried about. The actual physical parts not so much :)

Poor baby Fartlek!

Oh, I worry about the same things during a Triathlon.

I think you may have enjoyed the bike ride more than me. Those hills nearly killed me. I may end up as one of The Quiet Pirate's road kill photos on Saturday.

Thanks for the invite to the gym -that is one fancy gym. They just need to get Edward Scissorhands out of the child care room. I felt sorry for your poor little guy getting all scratched up.

Swimming sounds fun and refreshing. Hope your little on is going to be okay.

I think you got more than enough exercise with the biking and swimming. Good luck on your Tri. Are you doing a sprint or Olympic? Is bye-wing older or younger than you?

Poor baby (the kid, not you).

Dale, I know - the poor kid can't catch a break! Have you done a tri before? This will be my first.

bye-wing, if you become roadkill I'll take a picture and post it :) I still get grumpy when I look at his face. I just hope it doesn't scar! Oh, and remember you only saw half of the gym. Maybe Monday you'll have to come to my favorite FIT class with me and see the other half.

Terri, I think he's going to be okay, and I'm sure with all the heat you've had to deal with a swim would be marvelous! QP was saying even backyard pools were getting up to 90+ degrees, blech!

Nancy, I think you're right! Save some of the pounding, but still got a good cardio/x-train in. The tri is a sprint distance: 500M open water swim (Blackridge), 14 mile bike ride, 5K run. Although looking at the course for the run I think it's closer to 2.5 miles. Oh, and I am the YOUNGEST sister - spoiled rotten and mom's favorite :)

Carolyn, I don't know...I think it upset me more than it did him! :)

Rachel, I've never done a tri before, but I'd like to do the St. George Ironman some day.
