Short-Term Running Goals:

Okay, so for 2013 I am going to have FUN! Not that running isn't always fun, but I had a wonderful breakthrough year last year and I want to play this year :) AND get faster! So, my first goal I'm going to put out there is my yearly mileage goal.
It is 2,186 miles from my driveway to my sister (QP's) driveway! I want to spend this year on a virtual trek cross country running those miles. So, that is how far I will run in 2013...from my house to QPs. It will take all year and yes, this is measured on Hwys so it isn't really exactly how I COULD run it, but good enough. 43 miles/week...totally doable, and a fun goal to track how far I've traveled as I go along. Who knows...maybe I'll even run PAST her house :)

I will do more trail runs, Boston, Pacing duties, another Half IM and some other tris. I'm excited for this next year and look forward to having fun with all of you out on the roads, and trails! Maybe bag a few peaks this year too!!

Long-Term Running Goals:

Big Dreams: 5K in 20:2X; 10K in 39:XX; Half in 1:29:XX; Full in 3:15:XX; complete the Rim2Rim2Rim run and not die; Comrades; Iron(wo)Man.

Run for the rest of my life!

Personal:

4 children: twelve, eight, five and baby Fartlek - 2 1/2. Wonderful supportive husband that lets me drag him and the family all over for race after race!

Finished 13 marathons and LOVE running that distance! I'm definitely hooked to the marathon monster and hope to constantly improve my endurance, speed and stay injury free!

I've also found a love of trail running! I hope to keep improving on this front.

After being injured with a broken foot at the first of 2012 I found a tri group and started training with them and am now loving tris! The half IM was harder than I'd ever imagined...and am ready to do it again. I'll earn my bike butt and someday have enough time to train for a full IM.

Not much sleep...brain wouldn't be quiet and I blame not getting my gym time in yesterday!

Found something more boring than the TM...aquajogging. Seriously, I probably could've gone for a good couple hours if I had someone to talk to or a show to watch but in a pool with nothing to look at but the clock 30 minutes was an eternity. It was difficult at the start, but once I found a rhythm and stopped trying to swim and move but just jog it wasn't too bad - just completely mind numbing. I 'sprinted' the last 5 minutes which felt good too. Just wish my ITB wouldn't have screamed at me a bit (I mean...really??? I'm swimming??? Give it up!!). I honestly think the cortizone shots truly messed something up in there.

Then fun splash time with the family, next Sat I'm going to try for 90 minutes - anyone want to join me?? :) Its fun......

I hope you can find someone to join you or some way to make the aqua jogging not so mind numbingly boring. I know autieem has been doing some aqua jogging. She can't join you, but maybe she has some suggestions of how to pass the time.

Rachel,

It really is much funner with someone else. Also ... are you doing it tethered or free? I like it more tethered.

I used to clip an ipod shuffle in my ponytail ... that seemed to help until I forgot it was there and went under the lane dividers and ruined it. I finally have a waterproof case but it ruined another ipod anyway since the gasket wasn't in it right (for the second time actually).

Anyway ... what am I trying to say here? Who knows.

Hang in there!

I'm impressed that you continue to find new ways to exercise! GOOD JOB, Rachel!

I'm glad you are able to get some exercise. I'm sorry it is so boring. I would join you but I'll be in Arizona for my Sister-In-Laws funeral.

I will join you sometime this week and that is a promise! I get off at 11:30. It would be so nice to talk to you, plus I would get some awesome Xtraining.

Carolyn, I'm hoping I can find some company :)

Teena, I use a float belt, but how do you 'tether' yourself? That would be easier! The ipod sounds good, but I just got my shuffle for Christmas and I'm afraid I'd ruin it. I'm clumsy that way! Thanks for the encouragement.

Smooth, always trying to keep away the boredom :)

Nancy, thanks and I'm sorry to hear about your SIL I hope things go well. Travel safely!

Becca, I'm here, able and willing! You have my number so call away :)

Devine Miss M - Lazy River may work for you. You need water shoes. I found that much less boring than aqua jogging. Swimming is almost as boring. The good thing, good hard relaxing workout.

Devine - why not do a simulated race while acqua jogging - start and a finish with water stops, run thru sprinkers when you get hot, dump cups of water over your head when hot, water at the finsih. Not funny - keep up the good work, it will pay off by keeping conditioning.

It is boring to be in the same place the whole time and not have music or company. I hope you get some company soon.

From RAD on Mon, Jan 11, 2010 at 13:55:40 from 67.172.229.125

Brent, I do like the lazy river (walking against the current) but you are right water shoes are a necessity. Simulated race may help, thanks for the idea :)

Michelle, trying to avoid the kids playing in the deep area was the only distraction I had. And keeping an eye on my kids running around.

I'm surprised that your IT bothered you in the water. That's a very strange little device isn't it?

Sorry you were bored. I like the race idea. Good luck

Rachel,

I just used one of those little bungee cords and hooked myself to the little ladder thing. :)
