Short-Term Running Goals:

Okay, so for 2013 I am going to have FUN! Not that running isn't always fun, but I had a wonderful breakthrough year last year and I want to play this year :) AND get faster! So, my first goal I'm going to put out there is my yearly mileage goal.
It is 2,186 miles from my driveway to my sister (QP's) driveway! I want to spend this year on a virtual trek cross country running those miles. So, that is how far I will run in 2013...from my house to QPs. It will take all year and yes, this is measured on Hwys so it isn't really exactly how I COULD run it, but good enough. 43 miles/week...totally doable, and a fun goal to track how far I've traveled as I go along. Who knows...maybe I'll even run PAST her house :)

I will do more trail runs, Boston, Pacing duties, another Half IM and some other tris. I'm excited for this next year and look forward to having fun with all of you out on the roads, and trails! Maybe bag a few peaks this year too!!

Long-Term Running Goals:

Big Dreams: 5K in 20:2X; 10K in 39:XX; Half in 1:29:XX; Full in 3:15:XX; complete the Rim2Rim2Rim run and not die; Comrades; Iron(wo)Man.

Run for the rest of my life!

Personal:

4 children: twelve, eight, five and baby Fartlek - 2 1/2. Wonderful supportive husband that lets me drag him and the family all over for race after race!

Finished 13 marathons and LOVE running that distance! I'm definitely hooked to the marathon monster and hope to constantly improve my endurance, speed and stay injury free!

I've also found a love of trail running! I hope to keep improving on this front.

After being injured with a broken foot at the first of 2012 I found a tri group and started training with them and am now loving tris! The half IM was harder than I'd ever imagined...and am ready to do it again. I'll earn my bike butt and someday have enough time to train for a full IM.

Woke up and went to a nice big breakfast at Lumberjacks. Yum! We definitely ate well our last meal. Then we did some errands and shopping and I picked up Krispy Kremes for the team when we drove by and I saw they were HOT! :)

After getting dressed, cleaning up, decorating and packing the truck we were off and away to the first exchange. Van 1 had started at 6AM and we had until about 1PM before we started running. While there I got to chat with Burt who had finished 2 legs already and was ready for some more Ragnar action, and my neighbor who was down for the race as well. Rachelle's first van hadn't even started yet! Yeah...she was on a fast team :)

(helping Jeff and Jason load the truck...or just standing around talking...you decide :) )

I was the 2nd runner and was SO ready to run! However, the wind stopped me in my tracks once I got started. They said sustained winds of 30mph with gusts to 59mph...yeah, I was happy when I turned and it was a cross wind instead of a head wind. Something different about Vegas Ragnar is that you run through town...and there is no traffic control. You MUST wait for the lights. Kind of messes up your pace, so I 'cheated' and stopped my garmin when I had to stop for the 2 lights I didn't make. Also, my veggie omelet I'd had that morning kept threatening to make a re-appearance...yuck. Too many big meals in a row! I was happy it was over. Never became road kill, my biggest goal.

(Kimberly handing off to me! LET ME RUN!! :) )

I was pleased with my first run and pace. I loved the gentle downhill! Like running down 13400S...perfect. When our 4th runner was out we went to cheer her on and some guy started yelling profanities out his window at us because he was trying to sleep...I guess he didn't want any more cow bell :) That is the bad part about running through town.

At the van exchange the sun was going down and we were getting cold...SO cold. We knew the horrible wind and cold was going to put a damper on our night run. We went to Jason's deli for dinner where I ate light, just a salad, and then we went shopping at Target. I had warm running clothes, but no warm clothes to wear afterward. I got some fuzzy pants and socks. The pants were only about 5 inches too short for me :) High fashion baby...high fashion.

(the team, less one runner running, at the exchange after our first runs)

We found the next major van exchange and it was just a dirt parking lot. No where to sleep. They'd cautioned against sleeping next to your vehicle, because someone might try to park on top of you! So, with no grass (except on the private property of the hotel near us which we were also told NO to sleeping on) we hunkered down in the truck. All 4 girls packed like sardines in the back...on our sides and we had to switch sides in unison. It was tight, but warm! The wind was crazy and we were all a little panicky about running in the wind and cold. The 2 guys used the truck seats to sleep, but somehow didn't get any blankets to use! So, they were cold and didn't sleep well. I guess the bag of blankets got put under the truck outside. Silly boys! They should've just looked.

(Hillary, Kimberly and I sardined in the back of the truck...no we didn't squish together for the photo. We slept that close :) big and little spoon at the same time!)

(Melissa and I, we couldn't get all 4 of us in one picture, again same story on not squishing together :) - oh, and who wears their visor to sleep?!? duh. I guess I was really ready to run!)

We got a few good hours of restless sleep in (typical Ragnar) and then all woke up ready to go...just had to wait another hour+ for the 1st van to finish their 2nd legs. The only good news was the horrible wind had died down! YIPEE!! It was going to be cold, but at least not crazy windy.
