Short-Term Running Goals:

Okay, so for 2013 I am going to have FUN! Not that running isn't always fun, but I had a wonderful breakthrough year last year and I want to play this year :) AND get faster! So, my first goal I'm going to put out there is my yearly mileage goal.
It is 2,186 miles from my driveway to my sister (QP's) driveway! I want to spend this year on a virtual trek cross country running those miles. So, that is how far I will run in 2013...from my house to QPs. It will take all year and yes, this is measured on Hwys so it isn't really exactly how I COULD run it, but good enough. 43 miles/week...totally doable, and a fun goal to track how far I've traveled as I go along. Who knows...maybe I'll even run PAST her house :)

I will do more trail runs, Boston, Pacing duties, another Half IM and some other tris. I'm excited for this next year and look forward to having fun with all of you out on the roads, and trails! Maybe bag a few peaks this year too!!

Long-Term Running Goals:

Big Dreams: 5K in 20:2X; 10K in 39:XX; Half in 1:29:XX; Full in 3:15:XX; complete the Rim2Rim2Rim run and not die; Comrades; Iron(wo)Man.

Run for the rest of my life!

Personal:

4 children: twelve, eight, five and baby Fartlek - 2 1/2. Wonderful supportive husband that lets me drag him and the family all over for race after race!

Finished 13 marathons and LOVE running that distance! I'm definitely hooked to the marathon monster and hope to constantly improve my endurance, speed and stay injury free!

I've also found a love of trail running! I hope to keep improving on this front.

After being injured with a broken foot at the first of 2012 I found a tri group and started training with them and am now loving tris! The half IM was harder than I'd ever imagined...and am ready to do it again. I'll earn my bike butt and someday have enough time to train for a full IM.

Met early and ran 3 warm-up miles with Kelli, Paul, Rachelle and Craig. We ran an AP of my exact pacing pace. Awesome. I finally felt the confidence I could do this.

Race was a crazy start and times were off gun times, no chips. Hollie and I had a few runners with us (the doc that casted my daughter's arm last month was with us! we'd discussed the race at the office, so he came looking for me. How neat was that?!?), but we started out a little fast to bank some times on the easier miles. I knew the headwind from mile 7-9 was going to kill us all and that banking an extra 10-15 seconds for each of those miles would be WELL worth it, and it was. We got enough time to walk through water stops and not die on the headwind/flat/hills. Excellent! Hollie struggled a bit and at mile 11.5 gave me the sign and said she needed to drop back, so I pull along alone encouraging all who passed me! It was nice to have an easy finish and not be pushing for time. I was SO excited as the clock came into view and it was clicking 1:54:40's. I just knew I was going to get the prize for closest without going over. Too bad Bill got 1:44:59.8!!! Dang, gotta admit defeat on that one. My HUGE 2.6 second early finish had nothing on his .02!!

Afterward chatted with some people that had been pacing off me, and I didn't know it. I loved hearing how encouraged they were by me and how well I paced it through the hard miles. I LOVE pacing! I wish I could do it every weekend!! Racing is over-rated :)

Then Kelli, Paul and Rachelle were taking off for a few more miles...sure, why not. Ooops. As soon as I started I could tell the 2 bottles full of water/gatorade wasn't happy in my tummy and that my legs had stiffened and were tired. Crap. Oh well, once you start running NO whining! I just plugged along at the slow creeper pace :) There was one point that if I hadn't been so far away I seriously would've just stopped, but with Paul and Kelli dragging me along I just put my head down into the wind and plugged along. Finished with 4.1 miles, add to the 3 before and the 13.1 race - 20 miles today. Holy Crap...how did that happen?!?

I feel great now, and like I had a wonderful morning. I'm glad it all turned out well. The doc that ran with me finished just 20ish seconds behind me and Holli was right behind him. So, we all had a great day and I'm proud of myself for not wimping out and finishing a 20 miler today!

Jake, thanks. pacing is always fun stuff!

Paul, anytime. unless I'm too exhausted to chat, then you just get the whining :)

James, HA! yeah...okay, I'll totally pace you next race :)

Catherine, thanks - I'm feeling it tonight! A jump from 16.5 to 20 probably wasn't my smartest move.

Wow, it seems like you are doing another race every weekend? I seriously don't know how you fit it all in. Kudos to you on another run well done- even with the wind .

You ARE a great pacer!! I can't believe you ran before and after the race. Great workout day on top of a great race.

You did such a great job Rachel! I could not agree more that pacing is totally the way to go. So much more fun than racing. :) Great work and yay for 20 miles.

Great pacing today Rachel. Looked like a nice race from the photos I saw on FB. You are strong for making the entire 20, good work! Want to come down and pace me for my marathon in 2 weeks?

From RAD on Sun, Apr 01, 2012 at 21:54:53 from 98.202.23.178

bye-wing, I will be taking a couple weeks off now until Ogden. Well, I did win a free entry to SLC half so I will be doing that one, but that is it :)

QP, it was all Kelli's fault, but I only have myself to blame. I got greedy and wanted those miles!! It all feels good today though.

Allie, we really should hook up for a run! If you want to do some hills I was thinking about a Saturday killer hill run from my house. Short (8-9 miles), but probably 1500+ feet of gain - on roads. If ya wanna...

Rachelle, I would pace EVERY weekend if I could! I love it too! It was great to hang out, I hate the pressure of the race, but it always feels great afterward :)

Nancy, congrats to YOU on your win!!

Becca, I'd love to! I'll bring my bike and try to keep up :)

RAD great job pacing and makes me want to try it one day. Way to deal with the headwinds!

From glidergirl on Mon, Apr 02, 2012 at 11:15:44 from 71.219.131.24

Great race Rachel!! I can't believe you got a sub 2 hour this close to your stress fracture, that is amazing! And 20 miles?! You'll be back to normal marathoning in no time. :) And you were worried...:)

From RAD on Mon, Apr 02, 2012 at 12:07:41 from 98.202.23.178

Teena, thanks, but I'm still bummed I didn't make it by your booth!!!

Rossy, thanks - you'd be an AWESOME pacer; heck, I'd hire you!

Brooke, well, the sub 2 was planned since I was the 1:55 pacer :) It was a nice run and good to be able to encourage so many along the way.
