Short-Term Running Goals:

Okay, so for 2013 I am going to have FUN! Not that running isn't always fun, but I had a wonderful breakthrough year last year and I want to play this year :) AND get faster! So, my first goal I'm going to put out there is my yearly mileage goal.
It is 2,186 miles from my driveway to my sister (QP's) driveway! I want to spend this year on a virtual trek cross country running those miles. So, that is how far I will run in 2013...from my house to QPs. It will take all year and yes, this is measured on Hwys so it isn't really exactly how I COULD run it, but good enough. 43 miles/week...totally doable, and a fun goal to track how far I've traveled as I go along. Who knows...maybe I'll even run PAST her house :)

I will do more trail runs, Boston, Pacing duties, another Half IM and some other tris. I'm excited for this next year and look forward to having fun with all of you out on the roads, and trails! Maybe bag a few peaks this year too!!

Long-Term Running Goals:


Big Dreams: 5K in 20:2X; 10K in 39:XX; Half in 1:29:XX; Full in 3:15:XX; complete the Rim2Rim2Rim run and not die; Comrades; Iron(wo)Man.

Run for the rest of my life!

Personal:

4 children: twelve, eight, five and baby Fartlek - 2 1/2. Wonderful supportive husband that lets me drag him and the family all over for race after race!

Finished 13 marathons and LOVE running that distance! I'm definitely hooked to the marathon monster and hope to constantly improve my endurance, speed and stay injury free!

I've also found a love of trail running! I hope to keep improving on this front.

After being injured with a broken foot at the first of 2012 I found a tri group and started training with them and am now loving tris! The half IM was harder than I'd ever imagined...and am ready to do it again. I'll earn my bike butt and someday have enough time to train for a full IM.

THANKS LOWELL!!! Spanish fork was a great race and a fun time, Thanks Lowell for recommending it (and co-sponsoring!) I got to run with my friend Stephanie, we were pretty crazy to get up so early for a race on a holiday, but a good run was worth it. I finally feel like I redeemed myself a little from Ogden.

I clocked the  course short 3.04 - and my time on the garmin was 21:53. The official race time was 20:38, I'm pretty sure that my time and AP of 7:15 is much more accurate. Splits were: 6:45, 7:32, 7:18. I finished 25th overall, 3rd Female and 1st in my AG - first time I've actually finished 1st in anything - YEA!! The first mile was good downhill, but then the next two miles were recovering that first drop. It was a little frustrating to think "just push to the top of the hill and you'll get a break" then...no downhill, just a flatten then up again! I did tag some people in front of me and push to pass them, I think I picked off 3 women, and only once did someone pass me. I passed him about 2.5 and I could hear him behind me the whole time, then he finally took a push and pulled back in front of me.

I felt good except some soreness from planting flowers all day Saturday. I taped my ITB and didn't have any problems with it, but I don't think the mileage was enough to push past my normal 'agravation' point.

On the way home I visited my dad and grandma in Provo cemetary, had a 'grandpa treat' of smart cookie company icecream cookie sandwiches and then came home for some more gardening! A fun family BBQ topped off the weekend, now I'm looking forward to bed time and an early morning run with BBKers!

HOLY COW, Rachel, that is so awesome! Your splits are incredible, that is so cool to have a mile in the 6's!!! i am so super impressed.

Thanks for the cookie, it was good! I think we need to have an afternoon where we taste test all 3 cookies, that was some seriously good frosting!

Great job Rachel. I agree with Kelli, it's always cool to have a mile that starts with a 6. Keep that ITB under control and you're going to have a great racing season.

Congratulations! 3rd overall and 1st in your division. Freakin' awesome! You are definitely redeemed from Ogden, not that you needed any redeeming. You really ran an amazing race in Ogden.

I'll have a lot of frustrating reasons to run while I'm there. They're starting already....if you know what I mean. (Run till the demons go away).

Just don't think for one minute that I'll be running 6 or 7 mm with you! I'm so slow I should be running with a helmut!

If you are up to it, try the 5 K of the Utah Valley Marathon or the Heart of Holladay 5 K on July 13th. Those courses are certified. This will give you a true indicator of your 5 K speed.

But assuming your Garmin was reasonably accurate, this is good news. It means you are trainable to run 3:30 marathon.

Cheryl - I'm working so hard to do everything my PT is telling me to get rid of the ITBS...someday, someday!!

Carolyn - I'm just glad there were more than 3 women running :) feel free to make plans to come to the BYBSC run...we'll need some out of town contenders!

QP- we'll run out your demons and more. Come stay with me and I'll let the BBKs show you how to run them out :) Oh, and if you're self-concious about it I'll pack the helmut :)

Sasha- a 3:30 marathon seems CRAZY! I'd love to do it though, as soon as the ITB goes away; hopefully for good. I will definately have to plan one of the certified 5Ks to see where I'm really at! Thanks for the tip.

Nice work RAD! You need to train for that 3:30 marathon, I know that it is in you. Now that ITB...I'll trade you my ITB for your femur :).

Guess what I did today? Bought a bike!!! I hope it is nice, it was an ebay purchase. NOW it's TRI TIME!! Pretty sure I will be doing the Dino Tri on the 27th.

Julie, yes I've had ITB problems for a LONG time now. I think I get it under control then it jumps back to life at the most inconvenient times!! I hope by fixing the form that it'll be gone for good. RAD is my initials (well, maiden name) Rachel Anne Dekker. Since Rachel was taken I took my nickname for the blog :) it's a little sassier too!
