Short-Term Running Goals:

Okay, so for 2013 I am going to have FUN! Not that running isn't always fun, but I had a wonderful breakthrough year last year and I want to play this year :) AND get faster! So, my first goal I'm going to put out there is my yearly mileage goal.
It is 2,186 miles from my driveway to my sister (QP's) driveway! I want to spend this year on a virtual trek cross country running those miles. So, that is how far I will run in 2013...from my house to QPs. It will take all year and yes, this is measured on Hwys so it isn't really exactly how I COULD run it, but good enough. 43 miles/week...totally doable, and a fun goal to track how far I've traveled as I go along. Who knows...maybe I'll even run PAST her house :)

I will do more trail runs, Boston, Pacing duties, another Half IM and some other tris. I'm excited for this next year and look forward to having fun with all of you out on the roads, and trails! Maybe bag a few peaks this year too!!

Long-Term Running Goals:

Big Dreams: 5K in 20:2X; 10K in 39:XX; Half in 1:29:XX; Full in 3:15:XX; complete the Rim2Rim2Rim run and not die; Comrades; Iron(wo)Man.

Run for the rest of my life!

Personal:

4 children: twelve, eight, five and baby Fartlek - 2 1/2. Wonderful supportive husband that lets me drag him and the family all over for race after race!

Finished 13 marathons and LOVE running that distance! I'm definitely hooked to the marathon monster and hope to constantly improve my endurance, speed and stay injury free!

I've also found a love of trail running! I hope to keep improving on this front.

After being injured with a broken foot at the first of 2012 I found a tri group and started training with them and am now loving tris! The half IM was harder than I'd ever imagined...and am ready to do it again. I'll earn my bike butt and someday have enough time to train for a full IM.

Speed work with the BBK's! I finally am starting to feel good and hit some decent paces on speed work. It's nice to finally feel slightly recovered from Ogden and UVM and nasty injury plagues this summer.

Nice and easy warm-up for 3 miles and then we hit the track.

We did a mile of warm-up with the last two laps doing pick ups on the straights, then the fun began. Many in the group had done the SV half and so weren't quite ready for speed work, had I known that I may have chickened out and not done it, but since I'm always so behind I started about a half-lap early and never noticed until half way done that only a few had stayed on the track - the die hards! :)

3X400M with a 200M recovery and then 2X1200M with a 400M recovery between. Repeated twice with a 400 between sets. I forgot to lap the first 2 400's; maybe it was because I have been too afraid to record my splits for speed work yet this year, but I finally felt I was hitting something well so I lapped my 3rd 400: (1:36 - 6:13 pace). Not too shabby. The best part was the whole first set only the super speedy guys passed me! No one ever lapped me like usually happens, now I was a little ahead, but I still usually start that way and get passed. Not even Michelle and Peggy caught me until the very end!! :)

Splits for the rest are as follows:

1200 X 2 (5:20, 5:23 - Garmin has the 5:23 @ 6:55 pace, because it was recorded long at .78)

400 X 3 (1:41, 1:41, 1:40 - 6:40ish pace, love that the last one was a tad faster! Not as good as my last one in the first set, but still not too shabby for me!)

1200 X 2 (5:32, 5:32 - 7:09mm; still not as fast as my 2 the first round, but not all that much slower.)

Finished with 2 cool down laps around the track then some good chatting before we left :) I'm proud of myself for sticking out the track work and not slacking off, but pushing myself of tired legs from Saturday, then hitting some decent paces to boot! I really like that my 1200's weren't all that far off of my goal pace for 800's to predict my 3:35 marathon time. Gives me confidence. Like I said yesterday, it's time to dig in and get it done. No more whining. There is do or do not - make a decision, plug in and do it.

AP for 11 miles: 8:17, probably my fastest ever double digits run!

Nice job on the speed. Impressive. I think I'd get lost in all those different distances, times and paces. It sounds too complicated for me. You were flying around that track with great times though. Good job.

I have no idea what all those numbers mean, but it sounds like some fast running out there on the track.

Wow, Great speed work today Rachel, I am impressed!!!

Chad, it's easy when you're on the track and it's the only thing you can think about other than wanting to puke :)

Bye-wing, I was still the slowest of the group, but it certainly was fast for me!

Carina, I'm getting there. I have no idea how in the world you can run 6's for 26 miles!!!

WOW!!! Rachel!!! AWESOME speedwork!!!! You have speed in them long legs of yours! Wish I could've seen you fly around the track! I only get to see you running with me in my snail pace! :)

Very impressive and looking good for SGM! I am so rooting for you to BQ! YOU GO GIRL!!! :) :) :)

Wahoo for you on the speed workout. Keep at it girl!

From RAD on Tue, Aug 23, 2011 at 18:31:25 from 76.27.16.189

Smooth, I don't understand why just a few days after a marathon I can push those paces out when just a few weeks ago doing speed work low 8's were hard. I guess I shouldn't complain. Happy to have some legs back!! I will BQ, I will BQ (must start the chanting now!)

Melody, thanks. Nothing like your amazing speed work, but then again a sub 3:30 would be a dream come true for me and you could do it in your sleep :) Are you still doing the tri this Saturday? My daughter and I will both be there and I'd love to be able to meet someone I 'know' :)

Devine, no guts, no glory, go a little crazy, you can do it, the time is now, this year, this time, this place, a champion will be there, it is you, your own champion. No regrets, just guts.

Stay Kool, B of BS Rools out - the red rocks await.

Brent, that really just put the biggest smile on my face. To feel that someone else believes in me the way I want to believe in myself. Thanks coach :)

Allie, who knows...maybe I'll be running with you soon :)

Dang good job there after just running a marathon. It is like you were not even fatigued at all!
