Short-Term Running Goals:

Okay, so for 2013 I am going to have FUN! Not that running isn't always fun, but I had a wonderful breakthrough year last year and I want to play this year :) AND get faster! So, my first goal I'm going to put out there is my yearly mileage goal.
It is 2,186 miles from my driveway to my sister (QP's) driveway! I want to spend this year on a virtual trek cross country running those miles. So, that is how far I will run in 2013...from my house to QPs. It will take all year and yes, this is measured on Hwys so it isn't really exactly how I COULD run it, but good enough. 43 miles/week...totally doable, and a fun goal to track how far I've traveled as I go along. Who knows...maybe I'll even run PAST her house :)

I will do more trail runs, Boston, Pacing duties, another Half IM and some other tris. I'm excited for this next year and look forward to having fun with all of you out on the roads, and trails! Maybe bag a few peaks this year too!!

Long-Term Running Goals:

Big Dreams: 5K in 20:2X; 10K in 39:XX; Half in 1:29:XX; Full in 3:15:XX; complete the Rim2Rim2Rim run and not die; Comrades; Iron(wo)Man.

Run for the rest of my life!

Personal:

4 children: twelve, eight, five and baby Fartlek - 2 1/2. Wonderful supportive husband that lets me drag him and the family all over for race after race!

Finished 13 marathons and LOVE running that distance! I'm definitely hooked to the marathon monster and hope to constantly improve my endurance, speed and stay injury free!

I've also found a love of trail running! I hope to keep improving on this front.

After being injured with a broken foot at the first of 2012 I found a tri group and started training with them and am now loving tris! The half IM was harder than I'd ever imagined...and am ready to do it again. I'll earn my bike butt and someday have enough time to train for a full IM.

The 'outskirts' of Herriman tour this morning - I think I hit or passed the North, South, East and West borders of the city! Long run, complicated morning coupled with anxiety and frustration and bad eating the night before...needed the run, but kept threatening myself that I just wouldn't do it!

Got up anyway and headed out in the dark, having a headlamp at 6:00 is nice, but at 8:00 the sun was shinning in my eyes giving me a headache and I'm sure a few people got a good laugh at seeing me running with it still on my head - but what am I to do with it at that point?

Had to make a park pop stop at mile 7.5, and thought I was going to DIE on mile 14 and 15 when I was completely out of fuel and had to run my last 2 mile hill! I did stop at the gym at mile 9 to grab some water, but I've now learned I need fuel (gatorade, gu, jelly beans, etc) to keep myself from feeling like I'm going to fall over on a long run!

Pace wasn't bad, but I wasn't setting any land speed records for sure. I kept it good until about 10 when I could feel myself needing that fuel, but I just pushed through NOT willing to  quit, but again threatening myself that I was just going to cut it short or call Craig to come pick me up.

AP- 8:47 splits: 8:59, 9:02, 8:05, 8:37, 8:42, 8:26, 7:56 (NICE downhill!), 8:28, 8:54, 8:43, 8:38, 8:52, 8:53 (starting to slow...then comes the uphill), 9:43, 9:53 (still kept it under 10! :) ), 8:42 (last flat/down push). Finished at a 7:42 for the 50 ft I went over 16, so I guess I finally caught the spirit of the finish!

I'm glad it's over, but would like to try to do 20 next week...we'll see how that goes. It should be a better Friday night/Saturday morning mentally for me, so I should be able to get through it. PLUS, I will bring fuel to consume while running!

Great job toughing out out this morning. It sounds like you learned some things to help you be better prepared next time.

I sometimes start out a run in the dark with a headlamp and finish after the sun comes up. I just leave the headlamp on my head, but turn it off.

I am proud of you for pushing through the run RAD. I am happy that you didn't call Craig. Way to be mentally strong and getting it done. Pretty sure I need to join you on the 20 next week. I missed you this morning :(

Good times for running on empty. And great dedication getting up early and running in the dark on a Saturday morning.

All the hard work is worth a six dollar burger with bacon & guacamole. I'm waiting to get mine on Monday.

Pretty cool when you can run a perimeter run around your entire town all before 11 am!

It's good you had the gym to stop for water. I stopped for water at a kfc once, and while I was at the soda fountain, my finger wasn't pushing hard enough on the water button, and I got half a bottle of lemonade. I didn't realize it till I was out the door. I still haven't gone back to pay for it..I'm afraid if I go in to pay for lemonade, I'll end up with a box of fried chicken. Then again, maybe that won't be so bad :-)

Great run, great times. You're a great athelete!

Great job Rachel. I don't know how you made it that far by yourself without fuel or water. I would have given in long before mile 16.

Carolyn, I did turn it off, but I still just wonder what some people thought as they passed me. I had lots of people ask me if they'd passed me running Saturday AM at the RS thing that morning. I said "probably...I looked like a miner with my headlamp on." They'd laugh and say "yup, must've been you!"

Becca, you did GREAT, I would've just slowed you down this morning. I always like the JRP in Lehi for 20...fuel at 10 is always good!

QP, It was totally worth the burger! :) If you went back to the KFC they'd probably just look at you funny and GIVE you a lemonade - not quite understanding what was going on. My 16 miles seem like a weak athlete compared to your AMAZING run yesterday!!

Nancy, I've got a bad or good conscience...however you want to look at it :) Also, knowing I posted yesterday I wanted to do 16 kept me going. I didn't want to come back and say I didn't get it done!

What's up the no fuel?? I have NO idea how some of you do that. I could never ever ever do that in a million years. Plus, your pace looks AWESOME!!!

You are amazing.

Teena, I figured I ate enough the night before to carry me through! :) I actually used to NEVER train with fuel, but I guess this proves I've now gotten used to it and really do need it!

I am a huge baby! Anything over 8 miles and I need fuel!! :)

From LuzyLew on Mon, Oct 19, 2009 at 12:24:37 from 208.187.197.42

I totally run with a headlamp everyday. It is so funny to run that way. But it is just barely getting light when I'm done so no one sees me. I don't know if I could keep it on for more than 6 miles. Those sure were a lot of miles in the A.M. there missy--headlamp and all. Way to tough it out in spite of all your doubts.
