Short-Term Running Goals:

Okay, so for 2013 I am going to have FUN! Not that running isn't always fun, but I had a wonderful breakthrough year last year and I want to play this year :) AND get faster! So, my first goal I'm going to put out there is my yearly mileage goal.
It is 2,186 miles from my driveway to my sister (QP's) driveway! I want to spend this year on a virtual trek cross country running those miles. So, that is how far I will run in 2013...from my house to QPs. It will take all year and yes, this is measured on Hwys so it isn't really exactly how I COULD run it, but good enough. 43 miles/week...totally doable, and a fun goal to track how far I've traveled as I go along. Who knows...maybe I'll even run PAST her house :)

I will do more trail runs, Boston, Pacing duties, another Half IM and some other tris. I'm excited for this next year and look forward to having fun with all of you out on the roads, and trails! Maybe bag a few peaks this year too!!

Long-Term Running Goals:

Big Dreams: 5K in 20:2X; 10K in 39:XX; Half in 1:29:XX; Full in 3:15:XX; complete the Rim2Rim2Rim run and not die; Comrades; Iron(wo)Man.

Run for the rest of my life!

Personal:

4 children: twelve, eight, five and baby Fartlek - 2 1/2. Wonderful supportive husband that lets me drag him and the family all over for race after race!

Finished 13 marathons and LOVE running that distance! I'm definitely hooked to the marathon monster and hope to constantly improve my endurance, speed and stay injury free!

I've also found a love of trail running! I hope to keep improving on this front.

After being injured with a broken foot at the first of 2012 I found a tri group and started training with them and am now loving tris! The half IM was harder than I'd ever imagined...and am ready to do it again. I'll earn my bike butt and someday have enough time to train for a full IM.

Did step and 4 miles at the gym on the treadmill at around a 9 mm but ramped up the last one to finish at an 8 mm. I'm trying to just add on one mile a day (or so) and that will put me up about 10% per week. I think that will be a good addage for ramping up to Ogden. I'm still pretty stoked about it, I also need to find a 'plan' and try it out a little. Since I've never run a marathon I'd better take some sort of advice from an organized plan, because then I may be slightly more successful than 'guessing' how to do it on my own. My foot is feeling better. I did feel it a little on the treadmill this morning, but not nearly as bad as last week. Now I'm off to my 'race from one end of the valley to the other 3 times' day.

I ran those lovely hill repeats with BBK's again this morning. A total of 7 miles and I am proud to say that my AP was 8:50 for the total mileage. The worst split was only 9:15! Now, some may laugh at the fact that I'm proud of that number, but you must take into consideration that my PR for a 1/2 marathon (the SLC one in Aug that goes UP the Mtn Dell side of emigration and then down) is a 9:17 pace (2:01 or so). So, being able to run probably at least 4 miles of tough hills and keeping a lower pace than that is great for me. This is what I love about running, constantly being able to improve yourself and its all up to you - no one else can take you or push you across that finish, you have to do it yourself! After the morning workout I went and did resistance and ran another 4 miles (around 9 mm) at the gym. Definately feeling the lingering effects of Aunt Ruth visitng and yucky eating all weekend. Only 11 days until Myrtle Beach! Eating crap and Aunt Ruth must go away - for at least a couple weeks :)

Okay, I wanted to post my splits so here they are:

1- 8:45  best 7:34

2- 8:17 best 6:58

3- 8:37 best 7:03

4- 9:15 best 6:49

5- 9:07 best 6:43

6- 9:08 best 7:28

7- 8:30 best 7:25

Of course, the bests were on those nice downhills ... thank goodness for long legs!

So, after a nice lunch of gouda, whole grain crackers and grapes and a nice afternoon nap I'm awake and ready to do my 'stint' at the computer. I did the kick-box class this morning and then ran a mile, just so I'd have something to put on the blog. After my 8:20 treadmill mile I finished off with the Ab's class. My foot started bugging me again yesterday, so I decided with Myrtle Beach coming up I could take a little time off and get it fully put away. Its feeling much better after some ice and rest this afternoon. I'll also take Friday off to spin instead of run, hopefully it'll be enough. I really want to swim tonight while my kids are in swim lessons - it just sounds nice and relaxing, especially the hot tub and steam room after :)

I did end up going swimming yesterday, and after about 10 minutes finally got into a good breathing routine. After about 40 minutes went to the hot tub and then the steam room to stretch .... oh, it was lovely!! If I didn't have to get wet I'd go to the steam room everyday.

This morning, I woke up early and met BBK's for extra miles. Did a nice easy warm up then about 4.5 miles (2-2.25) of tempo runs. Peggy said it should be comfortably hard, didn't understand until I was about a mile into the run, THEN I decided what I was running was comfortably hard! Finished up at a nice round 9, went home to grab 30 min more sleep then showered for my 'pretty day' at the gym. Did yoga then stretched and chatted for my last 30 min of nursery time. The best part is that after when I did my ritual weigh in at the gym I was down to my lowest weight!! Only 4.4 pounds left to get to my goal. That seems so much more reasonable than the 50 plus I started with. I'm feeling pretty good now, although another nap this afternoon will probably be mandatory if I'm to be amicable at all this evening.

I did have to put up my splits for this morning, because I'm so stinking proud of myself for getting ONE under 8! Here they are: 9:32 - 9:30 - 9:18 - 9:00 - 7:57 - 8:35 - 8:05 - 9:01 - 8:26 The overall AP was 8:49 but look at those pushes! A pat on the back for my 'tempo' today!

Did resistance training with my trainer this morning. Some arms, but mostly legs ... I'm hoping it doesn't make me too sore for tomorrow's long run. I'd like to get in 16 and Kelli said she was hoping to keep an 8:30 pace. That would be an awesome run for me, so I'll see if I can keep up! After resistance I did spinning for 30 minutes and went almost 8 miles. Its so nice to get cardio and not have fatigue in those legs and feel like they're rested and ready to run. Definately looking forward to tomorrow. Now, for some lunch!

I have looked forward to today since I found out Kelli was entertaining at Lehi again. However, this morning was definately not my best running morning! lead legs and crampy gut and exhaustion were unfortunately all part of the 'bad' equation. We did keep an AP of 9.02, and it seemed like 7 mm to me! I hit a huge wall around 10, but thanks to good company and my pack mule (Smooth) saving me with a little gatorade I made it through the last 6. I really wish I could get my body to do what my brain wants it to do! I wanted so bad to run this under 9, but since I started this Typhoid oral immunization on Monday (last pill is on Sun YEA!) my gut has been in a knot and everything I eat makes me nauseated, not to mention Aunt Flo's visit. I think I was just all out of energy and storage. It still was a good run and good for me mentally to not dwell or whine, but just keep up with the speedy ladies a stride in front of me. Thanks again Kelli and Smooth! I'm sure I wouldn't have made it, or at least nearly as fast, without your good company and the muffins at the finish!! I did it and didn't die, that today is an accomplishment - I also feel okay muscle/fatigue wise. Yea for my body, I have been blessed.
