Short-Term Running Goals:

Okay, so for 2013 I am going to have FUN! Not that running isn't always fun, but I had a wonderful breakthrough year last year and I want to play this year :) AND get faster! So, my first goal I'm going to put out there is my yearly mileage goal.
It is 2,186 miles from my driveway to my sister (QP's) driveway! I want to spend this year on a virtual trek cross country running those miles. So, that is how far I will run in 2013...from my house to QPs. It will take all year and yes, this is measured on Hwys so it isn't really exactly how I COULD run it, but good enough. 43 miles/week...totally doable, and a fun goal to track how far I've traveled as I go along. Who knows...maybe I'll even run PAST her house :)

I will do more trail runs, Boston, Pacing duties, another Half IM and some other tris. I'm excited for this next year and look forward to having fun with all of you out on the roads, and trails! Maybe bag a few peaks this year too!!

Long-Term Running Goals:

Big Dreams: 5K in 20:2X; 10K in 39:XX; Half in 1:29:XX; Full in 3:15:XX; complete the Rim2Rim2Rim run and not die; Comrades; Iron(wo)Man.

Run for the rest of my life!

Personal:

4 children: twelve, eight, five and baby Fartlek - 2 1/2. Wonderful supportive husband that lets me drag him and the family all over for race after race!

Finished 13 marathons and LOVE running that distance! I'm definitely hooked to the marathon monster and hope to constantly improve my endurance, speed and stay injury free!

I've also found a love of trail running! I hope to keep improving on this front.

After being injured with a broken foot at the first of 2012 I found a tri group and started training with them and am now loving tris! The half IM was harder than I'd ever imagined...and am ready to do it again. I'll earn my bike butt and someday have enough time to train for a full IM.

Quads are still very tight, I have to walk down the stairs sideways :) So, what do I do....go to step class! I don't know what I was thinking, it did really help with the soreness though. Step class was good and it felt good to get moving again...I'm a little afraid to run still even though I want to hit 60 miles this week. After step I can feel my ITB's a little...I don't want them to get aggravated before Ogden, so I might try a few this afternoon/evening depending on my motivation level :)

Step class and Ab class afterward...good to get moving!! Can't wait for those Boston reports...YEA!!!

Met the BBKs at Kelli's house this morning, it was nice to only drive 3 miles and be able to sleep in those extra 15 mintues :) Kept an AP of 8:40 for the lovely Herriman hills run. Felt good to get out and run. Quads are still a little sore, but I didn't even feel my IT the whole run which was a blessing! I just have to remember to keep stretching it and my hamstrings to hopefully one day loosen them up for good!!

After the run, I rode my bike to the gym and did weights for the upperbody and some hamstrings to help even out those quads :) The rest of my legs got a great workout this morning on those hills!!! Then 30 minutes on the stationary bike...then rode my bike back home (that is uphill...) then I had only 15 minutes until pick-up for preschool so Nathan and I kept on riding through the neighborhood (Nathan's 2 and is in the baby seat on my bike). No idea how many miles, but we had a BEAUTIFUL ride!!! I'm so excited, because I love to ride to and from the gym and Nathan has a good time too. YEA FOR SPRING!!! This summer/fall when David starts Kindergarten I can do it everyday if I want :)

Laundry will take up the rest of my afternoon and church meetings all evening! Hopefully we can get outside a little more to enjoy the beautiful weather!!

Got my butt kicked again in Kick-boxing! However, I LOVE the cross training - more side to side and muscle work than just forward movement like running and cycling does!

Hit the TM for 4.5 afterward, wanted to do downhill fast running to see if I could push my ITB and not feel it. Seemed to work, no pain during or after! Also read the article in April's RW about 'quality over quantity' so since I'm not going to get my 60 in this week like I wanted, I really wanted the miles to be good ones!! Did the miles at 7:40 mm or faster (sprinted at 6:30 for the last minute!!)

Went home, got to babysit a cute little 1 yr old so I threw the kids in the jogging stroller and thought I get a few more in and then take them to the park...YIKES!!! I forgot what it was like to run with the jogging stroller. stopped after 500 feet on the uphill :) Did get one more mile in - AP 10:17, hehehe. It doesn't help that my stroller pulls more to the right than ever!! It practically does a U-turn every 20 feet, it takes WAY too much effort to adjust the stroller AND run! Any good suggestions of places that could do a 'tune up' on the double jogging stroller for me?

Love the beautiful weather and wish it would stay like this for another 10 months or so :) -I'll take 2 months of monsoon season to get all the moisture we need, and fit in a little ski season!

Met the BBKers for group run this morning. Did a slow 3 mi warm-up, but I felt like I had lead legs!!! It took a long time this morning to get feeling comfortable and able to run a good pace. After warm-up we did an almost 3 mile tempo loop down the JRP- up 106th accross 1000W then down to JRP. Kelli kept me going...then she decided we needed to catch Michelle and Cheryl in front of us, it may have been the last 100 yds and downhill, but we finally caught them!! Then we reversed the loop and ran it again, the uphill was easier this way... YEA!! This loop I ran alone most of the time, but was finally ready to push myself to keep the pace up. Finished with a nice slow cool-down of just over a mile.

AP: 8:33/ warm-up: 9:15, 8:40, 8:44/ 1st tempo: 8:46, 9:01, 7:48/ 2nd tempo: 8:30, 7:44, 7:55/ cool-down: 9:05

okay, so the warm-up and cool-down weren't as slow as I thought!! No wonder I was dead!!

Afterward I got to ride my bike to the gym for Yoga, then had to battle the uphill to get home - I just put the gear lower and spin my feet, I'm not in a rush to get anywhere....especially when I'm biking UP-hill :)

Lovely afternoon....too bad we get a soggy Saturday :( maybe we can wish it away!!

Went to the gym and did the recumbant bike for 60 minutes (15 miles) - just enough to keep the legs moving and warm, then was able to stretch a little. Trying to save/recover some legs for my 22 tomorrow, peaking before Ogden - can't believe its already time to peak - aahhhh!!! The butterfiles in the gut just started....

Well, I did it...if I can run 22 on no sleep and pizza and cookies with no taper I have confidence in completing 26.2 in three weeks with good eating and taper...I think :) The only issue I had was at 21 miles my IT was SOOOOO bad, but I was able to stop and stretch then 'gimp' in the last 1 mile. I NEED to stretch like CRAZY the next three weeks to loosen that baby up!! I know it probably had a lot to do with still having some leftovers from last week, but I'm so afraid it will kill me - stretching can't HURT, can it?

I need to give kudos to Power Kelli!!! She put up with my stoping to stretch and whinning (I hope most of it stayed in my head...) AND did 7 more miles than she had planned...is she the best running partner ever or what?!?

Nuts and bolts: AP - 9:04; 1st ten out and back: 9:21, 9:12, 8:55, 9:22, 9:47 (hills!!), 8:50, 8:54, 8:58, 8:55, 8:45; stoped for water, gu and gatorade - next 9 out and back: 9:27, 8:50, 9:07, 8:48, 9:12, 8:57, 9:10, 9:03, 8:52 (one small stop at about 15 for a pre-emptive stretch and some 'magic' beans...must've been the caffeine, but I swear those 2 jelly beans put a spring in my step!!) - last 2.8, okay I'm saying 3: 9:05, 9:04, 9:01  (pretty good for how I felt...consistant pace anyway even for the horrible pain I felt!)

When I got home I did an ice bath to compare with last week when I did nothing and between the Aleve (thanks again Kelli!!) and ice bath I'm actually feeling pretty darn good - soreness wise. I also walked about 1/2 - 3/4 miles afterward and I think that helped as well! Still trying to figure out this "how to not get sore" thing.

I feel good about the run and hope that it helps me mentally prepare for Ogden and that my body is able to 'take it all in' by then as well. Now, I'm off to refill those 2800 calories I burned off this morning :)
