Short-Term Running Goals:

Okay, so for 2013 I am going to have FUN! Not that running isn't always fun, but I had a wonderful breakthrough year last year and I want to play this year :) AND get faster! So, my first goal I'm going to put out there is my yearly mileage goal.
It is 2,186 miles from my driveway to my sister (QP's) driveway! I want to spend this year on a virtual trek cross country running those miles. So, that is how far I will run in 2013...from my house to QPs. It will take all year and yes, this is measured on Hwys so it isn't really exactly how I COULD run it, but good enough. 43 miles/week...totally doable, and a fun goal to track how far I've traveled as I go along. Who knows...maybe I'll even run PAST her house :)

I will do more trail runs, Boston, Pacing duties, another Half IM and some other tris. I'm excited for this next year and look forward to having fun with all of you out on the roads, and trails! Maybe bag a few peaks this year too!!

Long-Term Running Goals:

Big Dreams: 5K in 20:2X; 10K in 39:XX; Half in 1:29:XX; Full in 3:15:XX; complete the Rim2Rim2Rim run and not die; Comrades; Iron(wo)Man.

Run for the rest of my life!

Personal:

4 children: twelve, eight, five and baby Fartlek - 2 1/2. Wonderful supportive husband that lets me drag him and the family all over for race after race!

Finished 13 marathons and LOVE running that distance! I'm definitely hooked to the marathon monster and hope to constantly improve my endurance, speed and stay injury free!

I've also found a love of trail running! I hope to keep improving on this front.

After being injured with a broken foot at the first of 2012 I found a tri group and started training with them and am now loving tris! The half IM was harder than I'd ever imagined...and am ready to do it again. I'll earn my bike butt and someday have enough time to train for a full IM.

Since I've been a complete lazy butt and haven't run forever, I decided I needed to get out. I figured I'd feel all nice and rested and tapered...HA! Nice try Rachel...nice try.

I met Becca down in Lehi and I got to go on her extended boyfriend loop :) We also made a split through the cemetery while they were setting up for the program. A beautiful morning!! I was just sucking it up big time. I'm honestly really worried about pacing 1:50 at the Thelma and Louise half this Saturday, sad, huh?

The hilly course was good, but not horrible and despite having to take a couple drink breaks it was a good run and Becca had lots from her trip to CO to tell me about, so I didn't have to talk either :) Perfect beginning of a great day!

AP: 8:46 splits: 8:31, 8:31, 9:24, 8:46, 8:38, 8:31, 8:13, 9:06, 9:32, 8:31 (can you find the uphills and those uphills INTO the wind?!? It was nice and windy out today!)

I was SO tired when I got home (and everyone was still sleeping anyway) that I got my stinky blanket and curled up for a nap. An hour or so later baby boy was up and it was go time. Hubby had already finished a lot of the 2nd coat of paint on the playground, but I went out and helped touch up a few areas with the boys. Then it was yard work...again.

Finished weeding, edging, mowing (kids got their first lesson of how to mow!), transferring a bunch of strawberries that had overgrown in the garden to a space they could fill in and go wild, clearing and tilling the garden, then planting our garden full of corn and just a few tomato plants, sunflowers planted, trees planted, everything cleaned up, quick BBQ at my BIL's house out here, then conditioning and fertilizing the grass. Whew! I tell ya. Hard work ALL day. I never stopped. I was really glad I'd had that nap earlier in the day. The kids worked hard all weekend too on our 'no electronics' weekend! Nice to have it mostly done. I now just have 2.5 flats of ground cover to plant...

Happy Memorial Day! I hope everyone got the chance to remember and cherish the freedom that we have thanks to all of the brave soldiers out there!

Modified Newton Tuesday Ten. I was tired, I know...common theme lately, huh? Just exhausted tired and fried from sun yesterday. I didn't want to get up early, but knew this was my only chance to run today. So, I did a modified loop with the Newtons. Since the 10 miler runs right by my house I figured I'd sleep in and meet them at mile 6 then run down to Chad's and turn around and run back home. I get to sleep in, get time with the group and less miles :) Perfection. Yes, I'm being a big weenie lately!

Got out of the house a little earlier than planned, but sometimes those guys HAUL and I didn't want to miss them. I ended up having to run almost 2 miles before I ran into them, oh well, less uphill home! I still could hardly keep up with Chad, George and Dave, but Ronny was okay to take it slow so he got to run slow with me :) We had a nice little visit for 3 miles, but then I realized I was at mile 5 and nearly 3 miles away from home. So, I cut off early and turned back home. If I would've gone to Chad's house I would've ended up with 10...a lot of good a 'modified' loop would've done me, huh?!?

The climb back home was as brutal as I've always remembered, but I better get used to it, HOMM is coming up and I get to run it in the teens of a marathon, nice. Then a canyon afterward, even better.

AP: 8:42 splits: 8:58, 8:57, 8:05, 8:01, 7:47, 9;18, 9:40, 8:51 (can you find the 3 miles I ran with the Newtons?!?)

Eight exactly to my door. Wonderful morning out there today! Now I just hope the rain stays away long enough to get Sara out for our long awaited hike!

6 miles on the TM after an amazing little Kindergarten program :) I only had an hour left of daycare, so I just got those miles in. I've been SO tired this week, I wasn't going to get up early and do it either. Lazy.

I decided to go for pace that I'm going to be pulling in Moab on Saturday at Thelma and Louise to make sure my legs would handle it. 1% and 8:20 miles. I got tired of the pace the last 1/2 mile or so, so I sped it up just to get it done. Finished in 49:45, so I only made up 15 seconds that last 1/2 mile.

A good confidence booster that I CAN run this 1:50 Saturday...hopefully.

Shaggy Mountain Loop with the Newtons. I was going to just keep up, buy I just can't anymore. Legs shot. Oh well. Once that was out the window I just figured I would keep going and not stop on the hills. No stopping or walking, so that I could do :)

Always dragging behind and I feel like crap making everyone always wait for me, but I just have to keep on keepin' on and hope that someday my legs come back to me.

8:48 AP - not sure on the splits, I'll post them when I download the garmin.

Later went to the gym and did spin class and then ran another mile+ with some friends on the track. No one was keeping track :)

Afterward I did a short weights set: back, shoulders, triceps, lower back and hamstrings/core -3X; then some good stretching.

Nothing. Just a ton of housework so that I could leave a nice clean house when I drove down to Moab with Christine, Becca and Rachelle. A GREAT short trip :) Everything is short compared to Fargo.

BEST HALF EVER! Sorry guys, this is a women's only race, but man was it a great one! A FLAT course, beautiful scenery a fun environment great organization, aid stations, finish line food, raffles. What isn't to love about a race like this?!? Out and back so you get one chance to cheer everyone on and you know how it all ends. I got to pace with Becca, which is a rare opportunity and I just loved every minute of it!

It is an early start, but June in Moab you welcome a cool start! Up at 5:00 to get out by 5:30. Pop lines were long, but went fast enough. Lined up and with a literal shot we were off. It was crowded and slow at the start, but quickly thinned out. First aid station at mile one and the mile markers were right on with my garmin nearly the whole time (12 was the only one that was horribly off to my garmin beep...not that garmins are accurate, I'm just saying it is nice to have the splits in my garmin be the real splits :) ).

About mile 3 or 4 they had a huge group drumming! It was SO neat! I heard it about a mile before echoing off the canyon walls, but assumed it was a plane or something. What an energy boost! Annie was with us pretty much from the beginning and was doing a fantastic job! About this point Tammi caught up to us as well and hung with us too.

As we approached the turn around we saw Rachelle and her groupies. I was surprised to see that the race was so small they were in 5th and 6th place @ 1:40. They had a good group they were taking with them though. We passed the 2:00 pacers at the exact opposite spot we saw Rachelle at...nice pacing ladies!

The way back we were met with the hardest obstacle. Seriously a FLAT course. I mean you follow the river on Potash road so it isn't really flat, but flat for Utah. A nice headwind decided to pick up. Didn't notice it the way out as a tail wind and at points it must've been cross winds, because I swear we had a little headwind  on the way out too. Some of our folks started struggling and we started passing people. I hate that. Annie kept trying to fall back, but I kept talking to her and telling her she was fine. Becca and I shouldered up and created a draft for Tammi and Annie to make things easier too. Tammi turned on some music as well and we rocked that headwind!

Just after the 10 miler Annie needed to hit the pop, but we had to keep going. I told her I'd be waiting :) Around mile 11 Tammi was cruising and we needed to slow down. We had about a 40 second lead. At 12 we kicked her out (25 sec lead) and I said "look, there are 4 people up there. Your job is to go pass those 4 people!" She was a good student! Took the challenge and did it. I thought she'd actually gotten 5, but afterward she said that she was close to the 5th and said to herself "I only had to do 4...I'm done" made me laugh.

Becca and I finished chip time about 10 seconds early, but clock time was right on the 1:50 - that was fun! Annie finished just behind us around 1:53...she was shooting for 2:00!!

The finish line had SO much good food and chocolate milk too. That is usually all I care about. I needed a baggie to take all my treats home :) We chatted and waited for Christine to finish at 2:15 and then we had to take off so we could shower, pack and get on the road to get Becca back for a graduation. We did all that PLUS got to partake of the yummy full, hot breakfast the hotel offered. I loved the accommodations!

The drive home was filled with fun as well and I just had a great time. I'd do it again in a heartbeat! A  quick trip and I would've loved to stay a little longer, but then again I could live in Moab, so that isn't saying much :)

AP: 8:21 splits: 8:07, 8:02, 8:03 (little fast! Banked too much), 8:15, 8:26, 8:39, 8:25, 8:31, 8:37, 8:26 (glad we had time for the headwind and aid station walk through, made a difference!), 8:26, 8:02, 8:29, 9:00 (last .15 on the garmin).
