Short-Term Running Goals:

Okay, so for 2013 I am going to have FUN! Not that running isn't always fun, but I had a wonderful breakthrough year last year and I want to play this year :) AND get faster! So, my first goal I'm going to put out there is my yearly mileage goal.
It is 2,186 miles from my driveway to my sister (QP's) driveway! I want to spend this year on a virtual trek cross country running those miles. So, that is how far I will run in 2013...from my house to QPs. It will take all year and yes, this is measured on Hwys so it isn't really exactly how I COULD run it, but good enough. 43 miles/week...totally doable, and a fun goal to track how far I've traveled as I go along. Who knows...maybe I'll even run PAST her house :)

I will do more trail runs, Boston, Pacing duties, another Half IM and some other tris. I'm excited for this next year and look forward to having fun with all of you out on the roads, and trails! Maybe bag a few peaks this year too!!

Long-Term Running Goals:

Big Dreams: 5K in 20:2X; 10K in 39:XX; Half in 1:29:XX; Full in 3:15:XX; complete the Rim2Rim2Rim run and not die; Comrades; Iron(wo)Man.

Run for the rest of my life!

Personal:

4 children: twelve, eight, five and baby Fartlek - 2 1/2. Wonderful supportive husband that lets me drag him and the family all over for race after race!

Finished 13 marathons and LOVE running that distance! I'm definitely hooked to the marathon monster and hope to constantly improve my endurance, speed and stay injury free!

I've also found a love of trail running! I hope to keep improving on this front.

After being injured with a broken foot at the first of 2012 I found a tri group and started training with them and am now loving tris! The half IM was harder than I'd ever imagined...and am ready to do it again. I'll earn my bike butt and someday have enough time to train for a full IM.

60 min on the spin bike.

1000yds pulling and 200 yds kicking in the pool.

Another recovery week. Quads aren't as bad as they usually are from Halloween Half, but knowing what I've put them through this last month I'm just going to take another easy week.

10 miles with the Newtons. A new loop though, because it was just Chad and I until sometime during the night George decided to join us. We went from his house UP the Mtn View Corridor past the Jr High, Emmiline to Butterfield Park, down to City Hall via Main St, then Herriman Parkway back to his house. The first few miles were rough...LOTS of uphill. About 400 ft in 3 miles, oh I love me some hills. The only good thing about the route is the last 6 miles are nice downhill miles!

I had dropped water by my house, I woke up hungry and thirsty and was afraid to run w/out any so I dropped it for all of us. That was our only stop other than a couple times we waited for George - he is still working on recovering from the marathon. I can't blame him. I remember it was a good month before I ran and didn't feel fatigued after my first full!

AP: 8:21 splits: 8:40, 8:52, 9:20, 8:41, 8:26, 8:17, 7:57, 7:58, 7:53, 7:46 - nice little progession on the way home. I didn't think I was running that fast. I would've said 9:20s up and 8:20's down with an average around 8:50ish. Man, my pace estimates aren't what they used to be. Is that a good thing?

Home, to the orthodontist with the eldest boy (he desperately needed his teeth looked at and there are a couple things we need to pay close attention to and possibly take him in for), then rushed him to school and I went to the gym to read and spin a little.

My boy had embarrassed me enough at the appointment with his bad behavior that I needed a little vent. Totally worth paying for daycare for only a 45 min day care session.

35 min on the bike, 5 min stretching the hammies/calves.

home, shower, music, Costco (big dinner on Saturday for the youth of our ward I'm doing), dinner prep and house cleaning before/while kids did homework and swimming so that we could eat and carve pumpkins after dad got home.

A busier day than I've had in a LONG time! I'm ready for bed. Another long day tomorrow.

Met Rob, Chad, Rachelle, Smooth, Karen and her friend (I forgot her name, but I remember Smooth said "I want to call you Lisa!" and that is all I can remember) at Willow Park for a Spooktacular Halloween run!

I ran with Rob, Chad and Rachelle on the way down and barely got to say hello to Smooth, but figured when we turned I would chat and finish up with her and her group. Well, she tricked me and didn't run the full 4 out, so I never got to see her again :( poo.

Chad and Rob took off for some tempo miles back and Rachelle and I just had a great chat on the way back. My legs got tired around mile 7 though. I can tell there is still some good fatigue in there. Rachelle had some super cute little treats for us at the end! How fun!! I had a great time and it made it totally worth getting up and going down there.

Probably won't take care of the gobs of candy I won't have the self-restraint to not eat today, but it at least put a dent in it! :)

Urban Trail Loop with the Newtons. Got a good SOJO recap from Ronny and had a great morning just chatting. Except I've exhausted all my stories with Chad...too many runs together this week :)

Ronny peeled off early due to a knee problem, so it was just Chad, George and I for the remainder. I really love that little trail loop!

The last .10 in the parking lot I told Chad to bring it and had him push me to a strong finish. I dropped him just at the last turn...ugggh, so close. Someday :)

AP: 8:44 splits: 9:15, 9:12, 8:39, 8:18, 8:36, 8:49, 8:54, 8:07 - garmin says I was down around 5:45 the last 'sprint' with Chad.

Went home and slept for an hour before I had to get up and get the kids off to school. They were pretty much ready and just eating breakfast by the time I got brave enough to get out of the warm bed.

Did spin class at the gym. Heidi's Thursday classes are always a good push! I love her classes. 55 min and 21 miles. Stretched, chatted and came home.

I'm hoping my little stinker of a 2 year old sleeps this afternoon - and I can too! When I woke up to get out this morning so did he. I put him back to bed, but then when I went downstairs he got up again and wanted milk. I was late to group, because I had to put him back to bed twice. I thought he'd at least sleep in - nope. Up when I got home at 7AM. What the heck kid?!? I swear he doesn't need sleep. Luckily, between my hubby getting ready for work and my daughter getting ready for school there was someone to entertain him while I grabbed my morning nap. Now, I think he needs to sleep this afternoon.

Did 60 min of spin bike/reading in the morning at the gym before I had to head home for Kindergarten pick-up.

Afternoon met Dianna at Yellowfork and ran the 7 mile loop. It was a beautiful afternoon and the dogs had a great adventure. I did learn one thing - I don't ever want to die by being run over by a cow. Those things are BIG and scary! One came thundering down the hill toward the trail and then tried to stop on the trail about 3 feet in front of me. Holy Moly! I'm just glad the cow didn't have a calf! The dogs came right back to us and we all sat and waited for Ms Cow to get back up above the trail with the rest of the herd.

I had a moral decision to make today (well, I made it on Friday, but still). I had planned on running the 5K for a BBKer that had recently been diagnosed with brain cancer. He has fought well and is astounding the doctors with his recovery and progress. The race wasn't a financial benefit for him, but would go to Huntsman Cancer Institute. As much as I support him and want him to know my heart and love goes out to their family, I knew I wouldn't be 'missed' by the crowd there.

My daughter asked me Thursday if I had any races on Saturday "ummmm,well...no, not really, but yes...why?" She said that they were combining the adult and kid iTri classes at the gym and she wanted me to go to class with her. My 11 year old daughter wanted me to come with her. How can I refuse that precious time? I've been doing races/runs every Saturday for the past 5 weeks and will be gone next week for LV Ragnar. There will come a time very soon that she won't want me around. I thought about it longer than I probably should've then told her that I would choose to spend time with her at the tri class instead of with running friends. I felt like my support would be put to better use with her. Not that Dean doesn't care, but I know if he was presented with the same situation he wouldn't hesitate to spend the time with family, because he knows how precious and fleeting the time is. So, with confidence I slept in and joined my daughter for the tri class.

We started in the pool - 30 min to do as many 200yd sets you could. We swam them race style up and back then under the lanes. Good practice! I got 7 of them in - 1400yds. I might have been able to sneak one more in, but after my first lap one of my daughters friends who was doing the class with her mom for the first time was on the side of the pool fretting and on the verge of tears. She only feels comfortable swimming backstroke. It was overwhelming to her to see all these kids (even her age) doing free-style so easily and, I'm sure, was afraid people would laugh or make fun of her. I gave her a little pep talk and we got in the pool together. I waited for her on the first lap to get down and back and feel confident enough to finish the next 3 laps. She did great and ended up finishing 3 sets. Lauren did 7 sets too. She was trying to beat me, but I hung with her! She is a great little swimmer.

The bike...oh, the bike. I think of everything in the tri world this is the one that gets me. I hate the computers on the bikes now too...just too many numbers to deal with in my head! I set up my bike next to Lauren and we had 30 min to get in as many miles as we could. Well, I prefer to ride with some resistance. Probably more than most people, but then the teacher had us ride hills too. Poo. I could barely keep up with Lauren on mileage. Then I noticed I'm dying and breathing hard and she still can breathe with her mouth closed! Well, I made her add some resistance on and then not cheat on the full turns on the hill adds. I finally caught up to her miles :) She did more than most of the kids, but I was at the bottom of the rung for miles on the bike. Still 11 miles in 30 minutes is a good 22mph pace! I think pretty darn good. I don't understand how some were getting 13+, that really isn't typical for average riders to go 26mph+. Anyway, my own snobby rationalization for being the bottom I guess.

Finally, it was time for the run! They had us running on the track and every 3 laps we would signal to the teacher that would record a tally mark. My goal was to get 4 miles in the 30 minutes. I finally figured out that when I had 11 tally marks I would have 3 miles. So, I asked for my 5K split on the next lap 23:13 - 7:30 pace. I pretty much stayed consistent with that pace to finish the 4 miles with just 7 seconds to spare. 29:48 for the 4 miles. 7:29 pace...just under MP and not even 10K pace. Yeah, I was tired - I guess :) more rationalization. Lauren got 36 laps in (11/mile), so just over a 5K in the 30 minutes. She and her friend (the one from the swim story) hung together the whole time and kept a good solid pace the entire time. Way to go girls! They counted every time I lapped them - I think it was 13 or 14 or something like that.

So, we both finished almost a sprint tri and I had a wonderful morning with my daughter! Her friends mom wanted to go outside for a few more miles so I tagged along on the next 4 outside. It was a wonderful morning! The girls had fun hanging out at the rec center afterward while moms ran off too :) We were going to meet at frogurt afterward, but they didn't open until 1:00 - poo. But, we had a great time regardless!
