Short-Term Running Goals:

Okay, so for 2013 I am going to have FUN! Not that running isn't always fun, but I had a wonderful breakthrough year last year and I want to play this year :) AND get faster! So, my first goal I'm going to put out there is my yearly mileage goal.
It is 2,186 miles from my driveway to my sister (QP's) driveway! I want to spend this year on a virtual trek cross country running those miles. So, that is how far I will run in 2013...from my house to QPs. It will take all year and yes, this is measured on Hwys so it isn't really exactly how I COULD run it, but good enough. 43 miles/week...totally doable, and a fun goal to track how far I've traveled as I go along. Who knows...maybe I'll even run PAST her house :)

I will do more trail runs, Boston, Pacing duties, another Half IM and some other tris. I'm excited for this next year and look forward to having fun with all of you out on the roads, and trails! Maybe bag a few peaks this year too!!

Long-Term Running Goals:

Big Dreams: 5K in 20:2X; 10K in 39:XX; Half in 1:29:XX; Full in 3:15:XX; complete the Rim2Rim2Rim run and not die; Comrades; Iron(wo)Man.

Run for the rest of my life!

Personal:

4 children: twelve, eight, five and baby Fartlek - 2 1/2. Wonderful supportive husband that lets me drag him and the family all over for race after race!

Finished 13 marathons and LOVE running that distance! I'm definitely hooked to the marathon monster and hope to constantly improve my endurance, speed and stay injury free!

I've also found a love of trail running! I hope to keep improving on this front.

After being injured with a broken foot at the first of 2012 I found a tri group and started training with them and am now loving tris! The half IM was harder than I'd ever imagined...and am ready to do it again. I'll earn my bike butt and someday have enough time to train for a full IM.

First words out of my mouth as I stumbled out of bed were...I'm either crazy or stupid! I was tired...3 AM comes much too quickly on a Saturday morning.

Got to the buses and met Luz, Josse, and Erika. Once on the bus ran into BSRools - the awesome duo, and had a short ride up. Fire-side chats and potty breaks filled up the hours till start time, then we were off. Those three ladies were too much for me to handle after about .5 miles and I let them go, I knew I wasn't holding an 8:20!

Honestly, the first 3+ miles were sheer torture. More than once I considered just walking. My calves have been SO tight, the front of my shins were burning with pain. Add in the up hill and lack of company and I was spiraling in the wrong direction. I quickly made up my mind to simply hold out till the dam (this was about mile 1.5 and I thought it was at about 2) and then decide after I got some good downhill rolling.

The dam wasn't until mile 4 or 5 and I had HORDES of people passing me (uh, huh..yeah, go ahead...pass the big, fat, slow, pregnant lady and feel good!) but I also had some GREAT conversations with a few different groups of people about my shirt and my 'situation' that kept my mind off the fact that I wasn't feeling in prime condition to continue!

Once I hit the canyon and could hear the river, birds, soft footfalls and my eased breathing I knew it was all going to be okay. I just let it go from there and REALLY started feeling good. I started picking people off and passing them, a couple of good downhill stretches I even hit in the 6 and 7 mm range (mind you for only the stretch!). It was SO beautiful, it was nice to enjoy it this year and not be in unimaginable ITB pain like last year. I also got a WONDERFUL lift of spirits to see Allie with my big "RAD" sign! You always see all of the signs on the side of the road, and I've never had one *sniff* so Allie THANKS SO MUCH! It was such an amazing boost! I'm glad I didn't have to wait till mile 25!

Then we hit the winding trail. The crowds really helped keep my spirits up, although the miles seemed to drag a LOT more than in the canyon. I was still passing people and NOT getting passed - feeling much more confident than those first few miles! I took that energy and the last 1.5 miles weren't my favorite, but I let the energy carry me and push me through to the end. I felt good, and it was good to feel good being 34 weeks pregnant finishing a 1/2 marathon under 2 hours!

AP: 8:55 splits: 8:58, 9:34, 9:44, 9:26, 8;51, 9:01, 9:04, 8:42, 8:36, 8:07, 8:32, 8:43, 8:42, 8:23 (last .25 recorded on my garmin...guess I wasn't too good about running tangents!).

It was a wonderful race, I got to see and meet some GREAT bloggers that made the trip and effort worthwhile. Thanks Josse, Ericka and Luz for getting me off to a good strong start. If I would've run my 10mm I may have missed my 2 hrs! Brent and Sylvie - you two are amazing, I had a wonderful time chatting with you and seeing you on the trail. Strong runners with hearts of gold - more commando points than I'm allowed to dole out! Allie, thanks again girl! It made me feel like a rockstar to have YOU cheering little 'ol me on! I also had the most amazing surprise afterward - to run into Lowell and then get treated to lunch with the amazing crowd of Lowell, Smooth (and Pres) and Marci! AMAZING day!!

stats: I was 86/342 women in 'my'/Kelly's division (35-39); 357/1546 women overall; 711/2273 men & women combined; That puts me in the top 25-30th percentile finishing - not feeling too shabby about that! :) Also, one interesting thing on the 'stats' was that I placed 12th in my AG for the final 5K time - I really was feeling good! Not too much to say about the first 5K time...

You did amazing. I was out to try and keep a decent pace and was just barely ahead of you (I think). I didn't get to see my race results, and I don't think they are online yet. When I went back a few miles for Catherine she was really struggling, and right at the finish line almost went down. We spent some quality time in the medic tent (she has hyponatremia almost every race). Then we had to run because I told my Aunt to pick us up at 11:30. I only ran as far as Cath, and so I missed Smooth. But saw a few other friends and bloggers. I wanted to come back and thank you for your cheering at the finish. I also saw Allie holding your RAD sign and hoped you were just behind me to see it. I never got to see my official time (came across the line at 1:55) but don't know where to find them online (guess they aren't there yet). Anyway--you are a trooper. I hed on to Josse & Erica until about mile 3-4 but Josse drinks and runs and once I let them go, I never saw them again until the end! I had a good run too though and enjoyed the day. As always though, just wish I had more time to cheer everyone in--but I owed one to Cath and needed to nurse her along. YOu did so great, and you look fantastic. I'm so glad you were feeling strong at the end. Take good care and get ready for that baby comin' real, real soon! You're great!

Larry still can't believe you ran the half and all the amazing things you did while prego. It was fun "pigging" out at Rooster with you afterwards. I'm so glad we had that recovery meal together. You ran an awesome race and didn't even looked like you ran a race. Take care and good luck with Baby in just a few weeks!

Um. I just ran your time through my Pregnancy Handicapping System, and you came in with a 1:35 time and won your age group. Congratulations!

From Carolyn in Colorado on Sat, May 15, 2010 at 20:48:35 from 24.8.167.243

Great job! Congratulations on under 2 hours. You are pretty speedy, you pregnant lady.

From Nan on Sat, May 15, 2010 at 21:07:57 from 174.51.250.151

Sounds like a fun time and a great effort! You are so tough to run that far and fast while 34 weeks pregnant! Wow!

Devine Miss M - 200 commando points, very impressed with your push the last couple of miles, others were fading and you were flying, you must have passed a 100 runners the last coule of miles. It was a beautiful day for a race.

GREAT RACE RACHEL!!! You are such an amazing runner, and with a baby about ready to pop out to boot! You are gonna kick some serious hiney after that little guy makes his debut.

From Brent on Sun, May 16, 2010 at 19:58:45 from 168.178.30.194

Devine, why did you not post your correct time? 1:58:06? The chip time was messed up, every second counts.

Wow! You're amazing. That is an incredible accomplishment. You are hardcore for sure. I love it.

From RAD on Sun, May 16, 2010 at 21:42:58 from 67.172.229.125

Luz, I had a wonderful morning with all you ladies and really wished I could've kept up. I just knew it wasn't to be! I LOVED seeing you finish with Cath and was happy to see she was getting her BQ! PLEASE tell her congrats for me!! Thanks for all YOU did for me!

Smooth, the only reason I looked good was because I'd had a few hours and only did 1/2 of what you did!! I too was glad Lowell found you and brought you to lunch. AND that you were feeling SO much better!

JD, thanks! Most people think I'm crazy at this point. I once just thought I was bored, but I'm beginning to question my own sanity :)

KP, When you come out I'll make sure to drag you to a sub 2 hr too!! Thanks :)

Sno, I wish there was a pregnancy handicap calculator :) a 1:35 would be AWESOME!!

Carolyn, you know the course - nice and DOWNhill! If it was all uphill I'd be in the over 3 hours category!

Nan, thanks again SO much for hooking me up with Kelly and the number. I hope it was respectable for her. I'm simply happy to be able to keep my feet moving at this point!

Crockett, thanks! It really does take me a good few miles to get feeling good lately. I guess it makes for good negative splits :)

Nancy, thanks! As with every week, I hope I can get out and see you this week!!

Walter, there is NO way I would've run sub 2 hrs if they had ice cream at the aid stations! I would've sat down and had a bowl at each one...then munched beef jerky on the way to the next :)

Brent, THANKS! in my mind I guess I just figured I was passing back all the folks that had passed me on the hills. I was also just feeling good, never looked at the watch and was honestly surprised to see a sub 2 when I could see the time clock at the finish. I had a great time chatting with you and Sylvie! We'll have to run to the neverbear sometime.

Allie, that story made me laugh! Yeah, you'd make it up for a good story :) I'm glad you were there and not at mile 3 when I'm sure I looked like I was going to die!! :)

Kelli, Thanks!I honestly can't wait to drop the 20+ pounds and see how I can run. It will be nice to lighten up a bit :)

Brent, I changed the time - thanks for the reminder :) You're right, I've read that more than just us 3 had issues with the time!

Scott, Thanks! Someday I'll have to try out some trail running, and next year join you for the Grandeur Peak run!

From DonGardinero on Sun, May 16, 2010 at 22:00:43 from 75.162.166.212

Rachel, you did awesome!!! We didn't get there early enough to see everyone come in. Sorry we missed you.

From RAD on Sun, May 16, 2010 at 23:18:55 from 67.172.229.125

Dale, I actually got your text Sat AM as I was packing to leave and it brightened my morning! I still have your number in my phone from last year :) So, I may have missed seeing you personally, but it was good to hear from you!

From The Quiet Pirate on Mon, May 17, 2010 at 09:57:39 from 24.199.205.252

I am so impressed! People I talk to can't believe you're running 8 months pregnant let alone running sub 2 halfs.

There was a girl who didn't look pregnant at all running on Sunday, and she had a "you just got passed by a pregnant lady" shirt on.

No offense, but I had to pick her off early. I'm so glad she never passed us at the end. I might have had to leave Terri behind just to make sure she didn't beat me :-)

You're awesome RAD.

From Michelle on Mon, May 17, 2010 at 10:19:11 from 97.118.34.35

Great job! What an awesome accomplishment. It must feel good to still be able to run so well and only have 6 weeks left! I hope they go by fast for you.

From Tom Slick on Mon, May 17, 2010 at 10:40:43 from 168.179.157.104

Way to go Prego woman? Even in your condition you ran the thing in under 9 minute miles, Wow.

From Metcalf Running on Mon, May 17, 2010 at 11:13:08 from 207.225.192.66

It was so great to see you at the expo! You did an amazing job running the half, so proud of you. Now relax recovery and get ready to have a healthy happy baby!!

From RAD on Mon, May 17, 2010 at 16:40:10 from 67.172.229.125

QP, I'm glad you picked off the slow prego lady first :) You should've run by her and told her that your sister who is 34 weeks could kick her butt, THEN left her in the dust! hehehe

Michelle, Thanks - it felt good after those first few miles :) The doc said if all goes well, it could be only 5!!

Tom, Thanks - I really felt more confident this run that SLC. I knew I had a sub 2 in me, and I'm glad I was really able to hit it!

Lori, I was SO happy to run into you as well! Relaxing is hard at this point. I've got to start getting ready for the baby sometime. Crib, diapers, clothes etc etc :)

From Teena Marie on Mon, May 17, 2010 at 19:30:49 from 174.52.45.85

Nice job there Rachel!!!!

You truly are a RockStar!!! :)

RAchel, oh Rachel! That was FANTASTIC! You are TOTALLY prego and kicked a 1/2's bum! WOW! Majorly impressed over here!! :)
