Short-Term Running Goals:

Okay, so for 2013 I am going to have FUN! Not that running isn't always fun, but I had a wonderful breakthrough year last year and I want to play this year :) AND get faster! So, my first goal I'm going to put out there is my yearly mileage goal.
It is 2,186 miles from my driveway to my sister (QP's) driveway! I want to spend this year on a virtual trek cross country running those miles. So, that is how far I will run in 2013...from my house to QPs. It will take all year and yes, this is measured on Hwys so it isn't really exactly how I COULD run it, but good enough. 43 miles/week...totally doable, and a fun goal to track how far I've traveled as I go along. Who knows...maybe I'll even run PAST her house :)

I will do more trail runs, Boston, Pacing duties, another Half IM and some other tris. I'm excited for this next year and look forward to having fun with all of you out on the roads, and trails! Maybe bag a few peaks this year too!!

Long-Term Running Goals:

Big Dreams: 5K in 20:2X; 10K in 39:XX; Half in 1:29:XX; Full in 3:15:XX; complete the Rim2Rim2Rim run and not die; Comrades; Iron(wo)Man.

Run for the rest of my life!

Personal:

4 children: twelve, eight, five and baby Fartlek - 2 1/2. Wonderful supportive husband that lets me drag him and the family all over for race after race!

Finished 13 marathons and LOVE running that distance! I'm definitely hooked to the marathon monster and hope to constantly improve my endurance, speed and stay injury free!

I've also found a love of trail running! I hope to keep improving on this front.

After being injured with a broken foot at the first of 2012 I found a tri group and started training with them and am now loving tris! The half IM was harder than I'd ever imagined...and am ready to do it again. I'll earn my bike butt and someday have enough time to train for a full IM.

So, this week we're already starting out with the good, the bad and the ugly. We'll start with the ugly: my son was diagnosed with strep yesterday and had a high temp of 105 for about 4 hours last night after motrin and antibiotics, poor boy! Whats ugly about this is that if I get it and go on antibiotics it will void the Typhoid immunization I just finished yesterday and I'll have to do it again - YUCK! So we're practicing good handwashing here and using Lysol like its going out of style, although I've proably already been infected before we even knew he was sick. Cross your fingers for no strep on race week! The bad: I have to taper this week for the race. I've read a little about tapering lately, but I've never done it before. Its so hard not to run! Can someone please explain to me, or give me a good reason why this really is good for me?!? I want to run so bad it hurts. The good: I get to go to NC and see my sister and her family and do the Myrtle Beach 1/2 marathon. I've been looking forward to this for a long time now and I'm so excited! I leave early Thursday morning so I'll miss running group that morning and won't be back till Midnight Monday so I don't think I'll make Tuesday either, but we'll see where my excitement level is to get back to all the good friends I've made.

As for my workout report (sorry, I know thats what this site really is for) I did a step class at the gym then the 30 min Ab's class and then came home. Again, no running due to the taper, but I'll probably stick in a walk with Lucy, or a good snow shoveling this afternoon evening. OOOH, maybe some swimming at lessons tonight...always good cross training - not to mention the steam room after :)

Met the BBK's this morning and I nearly didn't go. Out here it was a sheet of ice with a little snow on top and I didn't want to get hurt trying to run on it, but when I got out just the few miles to Riverton the streets looked a TON better. So glad I didn't go back to bed. So, we met near O Roi Hardy Park and we started with our 'Kenyan' warm up. Slow, very slow - which actually felt great! Then we ended at the bottom of the Lampton hill, unfortunately I then knew what was in store! I have no earthly idea how many hill repeats/sprints we did, but it seemed to go on forever. I swear that someday those hills will not kick my butt!! We then did a 10 minute tempo run, which on my splits was 8:14. Yea, I can run after hills. I really felt great about the run today, it was hard, but I was just so happy about getting to get a good run in today I couldn't complain. I do also like pushing myself to see what I can do, its enthralling to push and get good results from it.

I then went to the gym for my appt with my trainer - took legs easy for the 'taper'. Did 45 minutes resistance training and then did intervals on the treadmill at 15% incline. Walk 2 min sprint 30 seconds (8:30 mm). Then I put it down to 2% and did a sprint (for me) at 8 mph for 2 minutes. It felt great at that speed and incline after doing the other. Walking and running was a total of 1.5 miles.

I'm getting really excited for Myrtle Beach and to see my sister, I just want to go to bed when I think about all I need to get done for my home/family before I go. I'm just so used to packing up and not worrying about anything here, but leaving everyone I feel I've got to get everything just right before I leave. Oh my, I better stop rambling and get to it!

Today I did kickboxing and Ab's and oh, are they sore! They had us doing a ton of ab work in kickboxing and then 30 min of abs, YIKES! They'll be sore tomorrow. Legs are feeling goood and I hope all this tapering will pay off Saturday. I did go to the Dr this morning because I woke up with a sore throat (the 'ugly'), but they said it wasn't strep, more likely a virus - or my head playing mean tricks on me since I've been so afraid of getting it! Hopefully the fever stays away and sitting all day on a plane will help the 'rest' factor. Have a great rest of the week, and if I don't post before then I'll see you all Saturday for the post race post :)

On the plane early this morning. Yeah, don't laugh at the sleep time! I'm always up as late as possible the night before a trip, because I'm a really good procrastinator and wait till the last possible moment to do almost everthing! Had a good flight, but wind back east made take-offs and landings horribly bumpy and I nearly tossed my cookies (oh, wait I didn't have any because they are now $5 on the plane). Relaxing evening and bed early!

See, I more than made up for my sleep time being away from my kids and no good reason to wake up. If my phone wouldn't have rung, I may have slept in past noon! I ran a nice slow 9.30 AP 4 miles to try to get used the new climate. Since it was afternoon I thought a nice warm run, tights and a ls shirt... NOPE! I never thought I'd complain about 70 degree weather! I was so hot, I thought I was going to faint. After running in 20 degrees changing all of a sudden to 70 and sunny was crazy. Other than being overdressed and hot, it was a good run. My sister had to go to work, so I hung out with her husband and found some great 'treasures' at Treasure Mart (oh, boy I couldn't touch anything...gross!) and got to meet some of the local fanfare, another oh, boy. Afternoon we drove down to Myrtle Beach and technology nearly killed us, but other than that it was a good drive with fun memories. Due to some traffic delays we got into town late, barely made the expo, checked into the hotel and then didn't get to dinner until 10:00 (Ruby Tuesday Avacado Turkey burger with salad bar and LOTS of water). Got to bed late (12:00), but the sleep in this morning made it not feel so off.

I typed it all in and then the computer kicked me off and I'm mad, so I'll type it later when I feel better. Great race, overcast cloudy but the rain stayed away. IT band bit me with a vengance (haven't felt it for 8 months or more!) at mile 8 and that next mile was PAINFUL! It did subside, and I was able to keep up my 8:05 pace. Yea! I'll RICE it this weekend. Lots of love, I feel good and 30 minutes after the race I got thinking I wanted to try again, because I didn't think I gave it all I could - I knew I could do better! Well I've got SLC 1/2 in April and we'll bust my PR again!!!
