Short-Term Running Goals:

Okay, so for 2013 I am going to have FUN! Not that running isn't always fun, but I had a wonderful breakthrough year last year and I want to play this year :) AND get faster! So, my first goal I'm going to put out there is my yearly mileage goal.
It is 2,186 miles from my driveway to my sister (QP's) driveway! I want to spend this year on a virtual trek cross country running those miles. So, that is how far I will run in 2013...from my house to QPs. It will take all year and yes, this is measured on Hwys so it isn't really exactly how I COULD run it, but good enough. 43 miles/week...totally doable, and a fun goal to track how far I've traveled as I go along. Who knows...maybe I'll even run PAST her house :)

I will do more trail runs, Boston, Pacing duties, another Half IM and some other tris. I'm excited for this next year and look forward to having fun with all of you out on the roads, and trails! Maybe bag a few peaks this year too!!

Long-Term Running Goals:

Big Dreams: 5K in 20:2X; 10K in 39:XX; Half in 1:29:XX; Full in 3:15:XX; complete the Rim2Rim2Rim run and not die; Comrades; Iron(wo)Man.

Run for the rest of my life!

Personal:

4 children: twelve, eight, five and baby Fartlek - 2 1/2. Wonderful supportive husband that lets me drag him and the family all over for race after race!

Finished 13 marathons and LOVE running that distance! I'm definitely hooked to the marathon monster and hope to constantly improve my endurance, speed and stay injury free!

I've also found a love of trail running! I hope to keep improving on this front.

After being injured with a broken foot at the first of 2012 I found a tri group and started training with them and am now loving tris! The half IM was harder than I'd ever imagined...and am ready to do it again. I'll earn my bike butt and someday have enough time to train for a full IM.

In 4 more hours I officially enter a new age group 30-35 ---if you have to go by days it would be today :) However, I'm clinging to the last 4 hours of my twenties and NOT inviting wrinkles, cellulite and chin-hairs to the party!!

Got up early to do muscle mix class (tough resistance class) and then spin. Both classes were 60 minutes so I got it all in before sunrise :) well...if you could SEE the sun through the clouds today. Spin is always hard after that class because my arms are already fatigued!

The spin teacher had us doing 3-3 minute intervals (85% effort, 90% then 95%) with equal rest between...I went to the track to run 800's (although mine are usually more like 3:40). When I was half way I had one lap down, then I'd start to chase Kelli - she was always just out of reach and when I'd slack she'd pull away and I'd have to push. She was a great pacer this morning :) Then when we were at 95% of max I set my sights just past Kelli to Peggy about 50 feet in front of me! It was a great track workout, and I thank the BBK's for all the 'good' memories I had to pull from to get me through!

I got spoiled this morning and had my friend Jodie come to both classes and Becca joined us for spin (she was sane and wanted to sleep!). What a wonderful start to a wonderful day!!

Now I get to go see how much money the government owes me, take a nap and then for dinner...it's off to the best place in the world: BENIHANA!!!

I hope you all enjoy your 'day off' courtesy of my birth! :)

Short day at the gym, had a primary meeting at 10. Took the kids to school, 45 min on the elliptical at L9 (nice a sweaty!) then ran off to the meeting - and kept my distance from all other noses :)

I need about 5 hours of a workout today to take care of what I ate yesterday!! Benihana was amazing and the surprise party afterward was AMAZING! I really wasn't expecting it, and I want to send a thanks to everyone that came, I had a GREAT time!!

Why is Wednesday always the most tired day of the week? I swear I have the hardest time feeling NOT tired anymore!

Boot camp - wow, a GREAT workout!

30 min on the elliptical at L12 - just over 2.25 miles

Hip pain has been subsiding for a while now...I think I'll do 20 min walking Fri and Sat then see how it feels on Monday --- cross your fingers!! I may get up to 30 minutes by next week :)

Today was a backwards day. When my daughter woke up she still had her sore throat and fever she went to bed with, so we went to the doc early and I had to forfeit my gym time :(  -Now I'm trying to avoid adding strep to my excuses to quit exercising!

Spent the mid part of the day the normal way, but then went to the Lehi gym for a late spin class. Got there early to get my 'card' (to secure that YOU have a bike) then went and did 40 minutes of elliptical.

When I was done and got in to the class all the bikes were taken and the only one left didn't have a seat?!? So, despite all my efforts (and driving 18 miles!) I STILL got cheated out of my spin class. I was SO mad - but what could I do? The front desk gave out 2 too many cards so someone else was in the same boat.

I went to the regular bikes and beat that thing into submission and sweated out all my anger!! I'm still drenched :) Got to ellip with a friend from Lehi for 25 minutes and chat with Becca after (she was a lucky one that got a bike!).

So, I guess it was worth it, but still when you can do the same thing 2 minutes away from home it's hard to rationalize spending the extra time and money *sigh* well, lesson learned, and it resulted in an awesome workout all by my own motivation.

Long story summarized:

40 minutes elliptical @ what I am used to calling L10

60 minutes on the upright bike - 18 miles @ L10

BEST SATURDAY EVER!

WELL, FOR A LONG LONG TIME ANYWAY!

Got up early and hit the gym just after 6 and did 40 minutes of elliptical, once I saw people in the spin room I got nervous and cut out to go get my bike...I wasn't going to be the one burned again!

Spun with Bec and entertained her with my grunting, whining, screaming and heavy breathing. Oh, and some lady in there sat by the door (the only light) and READ a book during class! I wanted to knock that book out of her hands - if you can read, you're NOT working hard enough. I can barely keep my eyes open, usually they're closed as I writhe in pain!! Afterward we did the elliptical for an hour. It went SO fast!! The first time I peeked I only had 15 minutes left - legs were dead, but the good company kept me going!

To do my 20 minutes of walking I prefer to do 10% grade at 3 or so mph to feel like I'm working hard, but no treadmills were open or opening soon...so I headed to the track. I kept it a clean 20 minutes NO cheating! Tried to remember navel to spine (hahaha - maybe the BABY'S spine!) and quick turnover to not overextend my stride. Still hard, when I can't get that "I'm pushing myself" feel (like on the TM incline) I want to go fast and it plays brain tricks on me, but I was good - TOO good!

Said adios to Bec who was getting buff in the weight room and raced home to pick up a foster girl I work with on Saturdays. Turned around and headed down to JRP in Lehi to cheer in the long runners.

*as a side note here I MUST blog that this is the first long workout with spin that the ITB hasn't bothered me since the cortizone shot!! I was SO excited to walk down the stairs pain free and 'normal' at the LC that I mis-stepped about 2/3 the way down and in trying to grab the hand rail scraped my knuckles on the brick wall. I had to laugh, because I guess those stairs just have it out for me! :)

Got to Lehi a little early, so I decided we could head out on a short walk. I wasn't paying attention and 'slipped' off the edge of the pavement and totally twisted my ankle. It's not swollen now, but it hurts like a BUGGER!! Either way, walked a little (VERY slow) out and back to try to see the runners.

On the way back Teena passed us - She got first today :) Then came the rest of the crowd - Smooth, Kelli, Davey and Luz! It was SO SO SO fun and exactly what I needed to be able to sit and chat post run with them about all thing sugar, running, Boston and fun. I had a wonderful time!

Good workout and company during, good company afterward and an uplift of my spirits! Thanks to everyone for letting me tag along and entertain and be entertained by your loveliness!! I miss running, but I miss all of you more so having today meant the world to me!!

*Workout in review for my info (w/out the fluff!)
