Short-Term Running Goals:

Okay, so for 2013 I am going to have FUN! Not that running isn't always fun, but I had a wonderful breakthrough year last year and I want to play this year :) AND get faster! So, my first goal I'm going to put out there is my yearly mileage goal.
It is 2,186 miles from my driveway to my sister (QP's) driveway! I want to spend this year on a virtual trek cross country running those miles. So, that is how far I will run in 2013...from my house to QPs. It will take all year and yes, this is measured on Hwys so it isn't really exactly how I COULD run it, but good enough. 43 miles/week...totally doable, and a fun goal to track how far I've traveled as I go along. Who knows...maybe I'll even run PAST her house :)

I will do more trail runs, Boston, Pacing duties, another Half IM and some other tris. I'm excited for this next year and look forward to having fun with all of you out on the roads, and trails! Maybe bag a few peaks this year too!!

Long-Term Running Goals:

Big Dreams: 5K in 20:2X; 10K in 39:XX; Half in 1:29:XX; Full in 3:15:XX; complete the Rim2Rim2Rim run and not die; Comrades; Iron(wo)Man.

Run for the rest of my life!

Personal:

4 children: twelve, eight, five and baby Fartlek - 2 1/2. Wonderful supportive husband that lets me drag him and the family all over for race after race!

Finished 13 marathons and LOVE running that distance! I'm definitely hooked to the marathon monster and hope to constantly improve my endurance, speed and stay injury free!

I've also found a love of trail running! I hope to keep improving on this front.

After being injured with a broken foot at the first of 2012 I found a tri group and started training with them and am now loving tris! The half IM was harder than I'd ever imagined...and am ready to do it again. I'll earn my bike butt and someday have enough time to train for a full IM.

early up and out - missed Kelli at the gym, darn spring break! :)

8:41; 8:34 (had to get off to grab a spin pass)

one on the track - sub 8mm, but I didn't see the seconds so I don't know how 'sub'

8:27, then progressive every quarter mile for the last one and every .05 the last quarter of that mile. I think the AP was around an 8:10. Finished the last .05 at 10.1mph - I like that pace, but couldn't do it much longer than that! :)

Spin class - I liked her routine this morning. Good sweaty times.

Home and got ready and off to the dentist for early morning appointments. Cavity free check-up for all of us. Then I picked up 'work' and I'll have him until 4PM tonight. I think we're going swimming (fun) this afternoon though.

***Oh, I'm putting a plea out there. I need some help on workouts. Someone? Anyone? I won a free entry for the SLC half on 4/21 and so I want to race it as a test run for Ogden. But, I need to get some 'workouts' in and not just these normal ol' runs I've been doing. Any suggestions? I'd like a PR and I think with how things have been going I'd probably earn one if I worked for it the right way. I'm really feeling lost. Feel free to message me as well if you don't want to put it all out there on the comments.***

decided to meet back up with the BBK's - I've been getting up early on Tuesdays anyway, so why not get a 'workout' in?

3 miles warm-up with the group 9:23 AP (funny, because we were running sub 9's and the leader looked at her watch and came almost to a halt "we need to slow down" - it's nice to have someone regulating pace for you!)

7 mile progressive run out and back. Goal was to hit 30 sec/mile faster by the finish. Since all the BBK's had raced Saturday I had the upper hand :) nice to lead the group instead of drag behind. Finished quite well, and surprise of all surprises, even kept my tempo going the 2nd half which was the uphill portion! Nice. 8:59, 8:23, 8:19, 8:24, 8:04, 7:53, 7:55.

1 mile cool down with the group 9:04

came home and took Lucy out for a quick jaunt to placate her today 8:30

AP for the finishing 9 miles 8:24

Now I'm off to spin class and mom and me aerobics/swim class. Enjoy your day!

Taking on my SW that Jake suggested to hit my goal for SLhalf. I kept psyching myself out about it. I swear that my brain is my biggest obstacle in hitting my goals. Thankfully I tricked it well today :)

Slept in. Getting up early Mon and Tu I was tired and didn't want to get up early, so I made my daughter babysit while I snuck out to the gym after I woke up whenever I felt like it! 9:15 is a beautiful time to wake up :)

On the way there I started getting nervous. I couldn't do this, I'd done 12 the day before and spin class. Legs were tired, I needed an energy drink to get moving, I forgot breakfast, blah, blah, blah...I really hate my brain sometimes. I told myself "listen, you had a wonderful rest last night, you don't like running with food in your gut, you don't need chemicals to run and you can run faster than 7:30's on the track and you do it all the time. Now just go get it done."

*deep breath* plan was 1 wu, 3X2mile @ hmp with .5 recovery between each set, 1 cd.

1 mile warm-up on the TM 8:49 (1%) - I just left my stuff on the TM then started the timer on my phone and went to the track. I chose to do my SW on the track, because numbers psych out my brain. I see a 7:30 on the TM and think "I'm dying, I can't run this fast, I'm tired, I need to slow down." BUT when I'm on the track I have to run by feel. Then I check the time at the mile split and the final time. This works much better for my brain.

First set: 7:05, 7:03 - TT: 14:08 Schzam, I got this baby! I can slow it down next time.

back to the TM for the .5 recovery @ 8:49 (1%) - the track is 11 laps, so I can't make a nice even 1/2 mile on the track, plus on the TM I know I'll run slow enough to really recover.

2nd set: 7:16, 7:14 - TT: 14:30 slowed it down a bit, still felt good

.5 recovery @ 8:49 (1%), I think the people around me are getting confused at why I'm doing this on/off thing :)

3rd set: 7:17, 7:03 - TT: 14:20 the first mile was hard, and the second I held on. My brain tried to talk me out of the second mile, but I just said "you have to start getting comfortable with the uncomfortable!" Obviously, I was able to pick up that second mile. Another reason for running under my own pace/effort on the track. I wouldn't have picked it up that much if I was on the TM!

1 mile cool down @ 8:40 (1%) started at the 8:49, then sped up to 8:34 the last half.

I felt really good about this workout! I was afraid that I wouldn't be able to hit the 7:30 pace on the repeats, but I did it and never got close to it! I averaged closer to a 7:10 for the speed. This really helps me feel confident about SLhalf. Now, that 3rd set wasn't easy, but the other 2 were. Once I fell into the pace that 3rd repeat after the first mile I felt like the pace was comfortably hard. I was getting comfortable with the uncomfortable. I CAN do this.

Stretched for a good 10+ min then came home

Ab ripper X - I hate it, but I love it! :) Thanks Tony.

Eight, horrible, painful and slow miles...

WHEN will I learn that eating like a glutton is NOT good for me? when? blech.

So, I went to a celebratory dinner at Ruby River with hubby last night. He's been working really hard to pass a certification test and passed with flying colors, so we had to go out! 1 Bloomin' onion, 1 lettuce wedge DRENCHED in dressing, 1 steak with gorgonzola cheese on top, 1 jacketed yam with cinnamon butter and a few steamed veggies later...my gut was NOT happy. It all tasted yummy, but I am paying for it today. Reminiscent of my Cheesecake Factory night! The only positive thing I can take from this is that my body has fundamentally changed. I used to eat like this all the time, with no ill effects (except increased body weight) and not blink and eye. The fact that this makes me sick for the next 24 hours and I want to eat NOTHING, makes me feel good that I've treated my body well and it likes to be treated that way. I need to learn that I can't do crud like this anymore! But...oh, how I love to eat :)

Met Chad, Christine, Kim and George for 8 miles on mostly trails around the daybreak area this morning. Kim knows some really good single track sneaky trails around! It was good fun - except that I could hardly keep a 9mm and had to stop and heave multiple times :) I'm looking forward to doing this route next week and not be so distracted by my gut.

Went home and caught a 45 min nap before rounding up the troops for rec center time.

Spin class - I was at the effort level she asked for, because I would've puked otherwise, but I still didn't feel like it was the workout I was used to.

Masters Swim with Lauren (my 11yr old daughter) - timed 200 = 3:30; feels good that I was able to maintain this from when I was timed a couple months ago and haven't been swimming much. Lauren finished in 4:00 - ahead of 70% of the women in the class! Nice work my sweet girl, you rock! I did have to take pride that I can still beat her, it won't be long until I can't anymore. Then we did a workout with mostly pulling - that is always hard for me.

Finally home and I still want to just puke - blech. I really should learn a lesson from this! We'll see... :)

16 miles in what I thought would be nasty weather, but it turned out nice - well, wonderfully tolerable :)

Started at 11400S and I-15 (wal-mart) then ran up to daybreak, around the lake and a little extra loop, then back down. I hate to admit that I really didn't like the up and REALLY enjoyed the down. But, I was feeling the effects of not really eating yesterday around mile 14. I was spent, but kept plugging along up the last 2 rollers back to the car.

It is nice to have the long run out of the way, and I got to get a long run in with Kelli! Amy also came along and I am SO grateful they were willing to go slow for little ol' me. Glad to top out a 50 mile week (even though it was in 5 days) and feel like I can do a nice road bike ride tomorrow and take 2 recovery days :) excellent!

AP: 9:10 splits: 9:14, 9:34, 9:07, 9:16, 9:33, 9:38, 8:59, 9:11, 9:04, 9:06, 9:11, 8:47, 8:41, 8:51, 8:47, 8:41, 8:51, 8:47, 9:44 (those last two uphills were nasty!)

25 miles on my new spiffy bike - outside, in the freezing cold. My toes never warmed up, took 30 min to thaw when I got home!

George and my neighbor Jessica rode with me at 7:30 this morning. I only felt like I was going to die a few times :) it is SO different to have a n.i.c.e. bike! I kept forgetting where the brakes were.

My legs are already thanking me (especially those little aches I've developed this week) for not running today. I was going to run a 5K afterward, but decided to shower and join the family at the Easter egg hunt. Problem? my husband took off with both sets of keys to his car (mine were in my purse in the family car he had). Crap. So, I threw on my bike shoes and pedaled off as fast as I could. The park is only 1.5 from home, so I knew I could make it fast. Plus, without having to park I could probably do it faster on the bike anyway :) I was about 100yds from the 4 yr old area (the kid I was going to go watch/supervise) when the horn went off to start. So, I got to watch the egg hunt! Awesome :) Then I rode home just in time to start work.

I hope that this is a good predictor for the day! I need a good day today - lots to do and little time to get it all done.
