Short-Term Running Goals:

Okay, so for 2013 I am going to have FUN! Not that running isn't always fun, but I had a wonderful breakthrough year last year and I want to play this year :) AND get faster! So, my first goal I'm going to put out there is my yearly mileage goal.
It is 2,186 miles from my driveway to my sister (QP's) driveway! I want to spend this year on a virtual trek cross country running those miles. So, that is how far I will run in 2013...from my house to QPs. It will take all year and yes, this is measured on Hwys so it isn't really exactly how I COULD run it, but good enough. 43 miles/week...totally doable, and a fun goal to track how far I've traveled as I go along. Who knows...maybe I'll even run PAST her house :)

I will do more trail runs, Boston, Pacing duties, another Half IM and some other tris. I'm excited for this next year and look forward to having fun with all of you out on the roads, and trails! Maybe bag a few peaks this year too!!

Long-Term Running Goals:

Big Dreams: 5K in 20:2X; 10K in 39:XX; Half in 1:29:XX; Full in 3:15:XX; complete the Rim2Rim2Rim run and not die; Comrades; Iron(wo)Man.

Run for the rest of my life!

Personal:

4 children: twelve, eight, five and baby Fartlek - 2 1/2. Wonderful supportive husband that lets me drag him and the family all over for race after race!

Finished 13 marathons and LOVE running that distance! I'm definitely hooked to the marathon monster and hope to constantly improve my endurance, speed and stay injury free!

I've also found a love of trail running! I hope to keep improving on this front.

After being injured with a broken foot at the first of 2012 I found a tri group and started training with them and am now loving tris! The half IM was harder than I'd ever imagined...and am ready to do it again. I'll earn my bike butt and someday have enough time to train for a full IM.

Barely made the 5:45 group this morning. I was pulling up as they took off...I didn't want to get up this morning. Tapers are SO hard for me! I feel like I should be doing more, but know that I can't - UGGGHHH! I went to the gym this morning and didn't know why I was there after I had run 6 miles. My legs are a little achy (just from normal stuff) and my arms and upper body are achy from raking mulch back into the flowerbeds yesterday - I've got 3 nice blisters on my hands, I'm SOOOO glad I don't run on my hands!!! So I did a little weights and rode the recumbant bike so I could flip through a magazine. Hmmmm, I talked to my neighbor probably more than I worked out :)

This morning's run was hard, I thought we were going fast - NOPE! My AP was 8:48, slower than yesterday and I thought I was going to die today. Why does that happen?? Why one day can I run fast and feel like its slow, then the next day run slower and feel like I'm dying?!? I don't get it, It couldn't have anything to do with the 10 pounds of Easter candy I've eaten the last 3 days could it??

That is WHY I think we are supposed to run 85% of the time easy. You do not always have to go fast. I am an expert at slow running!!! I only run fast when I am by myself (or chasing Scott), the rest of the time I just cruise. I think it is a good thing! All is well, you are going to do great this Saturday!!! Do you want to carpool?

Sorry about the blisters, but you will have a beautiful yard for it. I HATE yardwork. That is one good thing about our tiny yard. We do not have to do much.

RAD, ouch those blisters sound painful. Tapers do stink huh? I feel like a big bag of fatty flesh. Easter was terrible on me, looked at the scale and I have gained 2 pounds. SICK. Tapers make it worse because your body adapts really quickly to the "no running" factor.

I'm excited for your half marathon. I bet you beat your time by at least 15 minutes from last year. That course isn't too bad either, kind of pretty.

SLC half is a better course than the full. Have a great one.

Are you running the Salt Lake 1/2 on Saturday? I'm just hoping my leg gets better soon because I've already registered for the Ogden 1/2. Easter only comes once a year so it's okay to eat your candy.

Kelli- I'd love to carpool! I'll have to call you and work out the details.

Bec- Thanks, I'm really excited about Saturday - nothing like Boston, but race anticipation always leave me with the 'tinglies' in my tummy :)

Paul- It is a good course! Last year I ran it as my first ever 1/2 marathon.

Nancy- yes, its SL 1/2. I hope you get feeling better too! I'm glad Easter only comes once a year, or I'd be 500 pounds :)

Devine Miss M - taper, taper, taper and then taper more. Your have been killing the workouts. Nothing can be lost is a few very easy days before the race. Two a days: run short easy, breath and relax.

Stay kOOl, b O bs rOOls out

Rachel,

You're doing AWESOME! It's not the Easter candy. It's the easy/hard principle. Balance out the hard days with easy days. You ran 19 miles on Sat. a super super FAST killer run yesterday plus tons of "blistered" yardwork; so today should be a recovery day.

You will do WONDERFUL at SLC 1/2. You should race it since you're tapering. It will give you a good indication of where you're at and what you should shoot for in Ogden. I'll bet you PR from the Myrtle Beach 1/2. GOOD LUCK!

I think it is funny how are running can differ so much from day to day, or at least how you feel, I am always slow, but sometimes it is effortless and other days it is torture.

I will look for you Sat. my hubby is doing the bike tour and I get to be a spectator!

U OK Rachel? Hope you're swimming or doing something relaxing far away from the computer.

OK, it is 8:30. Now I am worried. ARE YOU OKAY???? I am going to go call.
